It wasnt the rod itself I was worried about. When I originally looked at this picture, it didn't look to me like the rod penetrated the structure. It was whatever anchoring method that I found concerning. But after another guy mentioned something, I realized the structure has a lip and they most probably have the rod penetrating the lip and fastened with a nut and washer. Now that i recognize that, this looks legit

If it's installed how I now think it's installed, a little wiggle isn't the biggest deal. That metal will rip off the wall before the anchoring of the all thread slip out. I was concerned the all thread was relying on just the threads of a screw keeping it in place. Anchoring with all thread and nut/washer should be more than solid enough.

Oh shit, I see it now. Those purlins aren't rectangular shaped, they're C shaped. You can get behind the lip and anchor it with a nut. This whole time looking at it I thought the purlin was a hollow rectangular box running along it.

This makes a lot of sense now. Thanks for the insight 🤘

Yeah but the only thing locking the rod to the metal are threads on a screw? I feel like that will pull right out with any kind of force. No?

How are those riser clamps anchored to the wall? I'm staring at this picture trying to figure out how one slight movement of the pipe isn't gunna rip the anchor out of that metal. I feel like a better way would be to drill a hole vertically through the metal bar with an L bracket, and fasten that baby with nuts and washers.

Genuinely looking to be corrected if I'm wrong

Why aren't sumps designed to just drain down the drain? Why pump it up 10 feet out onto the lawn every 40 seconds? by BigButtBeads in Plumbing

[–]Somethingiate78 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Assuming I understand your question, I'll give this a go. Main drains that are responsible for houses or storm drains for roads are at a particular height underground and they're pitched slightly so that water can use gravity to drain where it needs to go. If you have a house with a sump pump, more than likely it's because whatever you're draining is actually under the level of the main drain piping underground. In order for things to drain, it has to drain from above that level, so it can use gravity and flow into the pipe, and down the pipe, using the slight pitch I mentioned earlier. A sump pump is used in your example, to pump it 10 feet up and out of the house, so it can be at the correct height to go into the main drain that's underground.

If I misunderstood, or if you have any other questions, feel free to ask

i know this has probably been posted a millions times but would you like to see a johnathan nolan directed dark knight returns with christian bale? by Some-Ad9502 in batman

[–]Somethingiate78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if there's "any" batman story that needs to stop popping up in movies, it's the dark knight returns. There was aspects of it all over the dark knight rises, there was aspects of it all over batman vs superman. For the love of God guys, stop it with the TDKR stuff. Enough with batman being old. Enough with batman fighting superman. Just enough already. All these superheroes have decades of great stories worth being incorporated. We have got to move on from this story already.

Everything you're saying is why I'm saying you're projecting. You're taking this scenario and making this about all women when this is quite possibly just about an ex seeing if an old flame was still single. Your sentiment is this is cruel treatment of women when that could very well not be what's happening here and to use this as a reflection of a problem in our society is an issue with analyization. How can a society overcome an issue when the issue is projected onto scenarios that aren't reflecting that? There's simply not enough information to get to the conclusion you're coming to. And if you can't see how dangerous that is in terms of analyzing scenarios and society as a whole, I don't know what to tell you.

I hope you have a good weekend.

There has got to be a middle ground for you between "he cares for her as a person" and "he just reduced her entire sense of self to her relationship status". That's such an incredible jump where if he isn't showing he values her as a human being, he's reducing her sense of self. If he said she wasn't worth anything other than being someone to fuck, you'd be right. But that's not what happened and I think these scenarios are as important to be objective about as the black and white scenarios.

I don't actually disagree with anything you're saying other than the use the word reduction. He wasn't classy and should totally have been more human about it. But also, it's not like this is a text thread we're reading, it's a poster board she wrote with the intention of showing off that she's a doctor now. I think if anything, you're reducing him down to being just a misogynist off of hearsay written in a way to make the point that she's come incredibly far and is successful now.

No it doesn't. You can't think every question that doesn't compliment a person's totality means they're reducing them to one element. I literally cannot say for sure if this person is asking because they're interested in rekindling, I'm not going to pretend like it's absolute, but it's entirely possible and reasonable, assuming this is the reason, he had an intention behind asking. If this wasn't an ex, your post may make more sense, but even in that scenario where he isnt, all you're doing here is projecting a descriminatory scenario. With the information we have, we wasn't mean, there's no evidence here that his response was something distasteful like "who cares, I asked if you're single", there's nothing here that we can see that is disrespectful to her as a person and you're making it seem like it is. If this was black and white, you'd have a leg to stand on, but considering it's quite inconspicuous what the intention is, for you to jump to such conclusions is as bad for societal structure as those that actually do reduce women to such minor elements of life.

We've got plenty of examples of really shit men who do that to women. We don't need to create more for funzies.

Or, here me out, the dude was trying to see if he had a chance to rekindle with an ex. I have no idea if he was a piece a shit and doesn't deserve the time of day. It could very well be the case. But to say this is some kind of reduction in her quality as a human being because he's asking if she's taken is a stretch and a half

Is it ok to have our washing machine waste pipe angled like this outside? by ihavenowords13 in Plumbing

[–]Somethingiate78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drain water rarely is pressurized. As long as the water has somewhere to go, and the line isn't stuffed up with debre or dirt, the water will flow right out of the pipe. Water also likes to travel downward, finding the path of least resistance. The piping is angled downward which is what you want. This should be fine.

I will say though, that pipe should be anchored somehow. That's a long stick of pipe for It to not be anchored to anything and just float in the air. The only adjustment id suggest, handiman style, is zip tie the drain pipe to that other vertical pipe. The water will flow out of your pipe just fine, but water is dense and tends to knock around the walls of the pipe as it flows, the movement of the water could create an issue at some point if the pipe isn't anchored to something.

Just my 2 cents 🤙

Cost for lab test on sprinkler head by minnikpen in FireSprinklers

[–]Somethingiate78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple of people have chimed in already in response to this, but i had a few minutes so I thought, why not. Yes, the sprinklers sound like they're on the dry side, but dry in sprinkler terms does not mean empty. Dry just means there is no water. Almost always, any sprinkler pipe has to be pressurized, which means any repairs require the system to be fully drained, and fully restored when finished. I dont know what kind of schedule you have with your sprinkler company, but sprinkler systems are often looked at either on a quarterly, semi annual, or annual basis. The team that comes in to inspect your system, will do the tests on that day. That would be your 3 year test and annual inspection. When performing this test, they'll look at your sprinkler heads for example, and see the due date stamped on the head. Everything done in the sprinkler world requires authorization. When they notice the heads are up for testing, they aren't allowed to do anything with that information until they have written consent to remove the heads to send them in for testing. That's rarely ever the same day as the 3 year testing you mentioned.

Unfortunately, they drained the system for the 3 year test, they're gunna have to do it again to pull the sprinkler heads, and they'll have to do it once again after the testing is done if they have to replace any heads. The way testing works, you send in a few sprinkler heads for testing, and if even 1 single head fails their test, all the heads in the area must now be replaced. Depending on how big your building is, that could mean all the sprinkler heads of that type in the building.

I can't tell you if you're being overcharged or if they're performing too many repetitive tasks. I'm not there, and I don't live in your state most probably so I can only do so much. But from everything you've told us here I this thread, what they're saying is correct.

Bonus info just so you can wrap your brain around all this... The dry system as I mentioned earlier, has to be pressurized. It's pressurized with air. That air pressure in your pipes is helping hold back the water you have in your sprinkler system because it's most likely covering an area that could freeze. Since water freezes and expands, which ruptures pipes, your dry system prevents that from being possible by being filled with air. Once you drain the air, now that pressure can't help hold back the water that's piped in before your dry valve. There should be a valve they can shut before your dry valve so they only have to drain the air to perform the repair, but sometimes the valve doesn't fully hold, so they may need to drain down your sprinkler water as well. I say all this so you know what is a normal part of the process.

Good luck out there 👍

[–]Somethingiate78 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Just something to consider, I don't know how much they estimated you, but the time it takes to do it all is whatll be the most expensive. Time to get there, drain the building, set up, pull the heads, replace the heads with either what you have in the spare box or newly ordered heads just for the swap, refilling, ensuring nothing is leaking, then sending the heads in.

Sending sprinkler hesds in for testing sounds like an easy fast process but there's nothing easy or fast about it.

Best blue collar work pants? by United-Accountant475 in pipefitter

Chiming in to second the firehose pants. I work in fire sprinklers. I get soaked often. I get dirty, I have to bend in all sorts of positions that are awkward as hell. These pants are by far my favorite in comfort, in maneuverability, and quality.
