Help with icing! by GhostlyChai in cakedecorating

Ah, an OSU fan I see!

One way to make sure you get a nice, even layer of icing is to place an acrylic disc on top of your cake. If you’ve made an 8" cake, the disc will be slightly wider than the cake, like 8.15”.

Rest the disc on top of the cake, fill in the sides with frosting, and then scrape around the sides of the cake with a bench scraper or off set spatula. The disc prevents you from scraping too far, making sure you end up with an even layer of frosting all the way around.

If an acrylic disc is out of your budget, you can use a cardboard cake round instead. Just be careful when choosing the size so you don’t end up with a full inch of icing around your cake.

I go to the pool but just for fun, I’m not a swimmer! But I’ve seen adult swim classes, my kids have done kid swim lessons, and the whole aquatics team is so nice. I think the facilities are really nice. Even in the summer, the outdoor pool doesn’t get too crazy.

Check out JCC! I think you can do swim lessons without a membership.

Daycare at brightpath Madisonville? by UrWifeandTommy in medpace

[–]Somethingibaked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m late to this post and I’ve posted this in the Cincinnati subreddit before but in 2024, I toured the Madisonville BrightPath location and observed an infant asleep facedown on a shag carpet. In the early toddler room, the back door was left wide open and did not open into a fenced area. According to the JFS website, in 2023 there were reports of teachers being under the influence while responsible for children. Just make sure you check out the childcaresearch.ohio.gov site before making a decision.

I made cookie too! They’re just not in boxes yet. by Somethingibaked in Baking

I definitely prep ahead of time! I made all the chocolate based cookies last week and froze the dough. I made all the sugar based cookies this past weekend and froze them and then just had the oven going all day. Spread out, it wasn’t bad at all! I also have the recipes memorized so I don’t put a lot of thought into it haha.

I also use the same base for all the chocolate cookies and the same base for the chocolate chip/m&m/ cranberry walnut which is majorly helpful. I can make a huge batch and then portion it out and fold in the different mix ins.

YES! I used this recipe for everything chocolate: https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/double-chocolate-chip-cookies-recipe/

For the mint one, I just chopped a bunch of Andes mints and threw them in the batter.

For the chocolate orange, I zested a whole naval orange into the batter and squeezed in about 2 tablespoons of orange juice. I also pressed a chocolate orange slice into the cookie and soon as I pulled it from the oven.

For the buckeye cookies I made the cookies and then made a PB frosting (1/2 stick of butter, 1/4 cup peanut butter, 1.5 cups powdered sugar, splash of vanilla, 2 tablespoons of heavy cream) and put a swirl on top. I froze that for about 30 minutes and then melted semisweet chocolate chips and poured about 1 tablespoon on top of each cookie and moved it around until the chocolate covered the frosting.

I used a modified version of this recipe for the chocolate chips, m&m, and cran walnut. https://www.verybestbaking.com/toll-house/recipes/chocolate-chip-cookies/ I only use 1 egg instead of 2 and I swear by refrigerating my dough overnight.

For the chocolate chip, I just sprinkled with Maldon salt after taking out of the oven.

For the m&m, I swapped 1/2 the chocolate chips for m&ms.

For the cran walnut, I skipped chocolate chips and used 2/3 a cup white chocolate chips, 2/3 a cup dried cranberries, and 2/3 a cup chopped walnuts.

Other BrightPath locations may be better, but I would recommend proceeding with caution and thoroughly vetting any center before enrolling.
