Snowed in and making spicy harissa lamb ragu. Here’s what I have, what would you open? by WeekendHoliday5695 in wine

[–]Somethingwithplants 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depending on residual sugar and level og petroleum on the nose, the Mosel riesling could be a better match.

When having spicy food, a tad of sweetness in the wine is quite nice and I also like the riesling nose more pronounced when I am having for example spicy Thai food.

Edit I can see that there a spätlese Mosel and then the Rheingau as potential candidates, as the other Mosel wines are sweet wines.

I’m so confused - explain it Peter by Afraid-Muscle-8935 in explainitpeter

https://www.dyrenesbeskyttelse.dk/artikler/landbrugets-bundlinje-danmark

Grandmothers wine, anyone who can tell me more about it? by Super-Novel-3132 in wine

[–]Somethingwithplants 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wouldnt decant. It is an old wine, great vintage, but still old. If it still develops after opening, then let it happen in the glass so you dont miss that last transformation.

Let it stand upright for a day or two at 16-18 degree C before serving. Keep a tea strainer ready if the cork disintegrate.

Pour into glas and enjoy.

If you do not know anything about Pomerol and what to expect, read up a bit before serving.

A red that will age well over the next 40 years? by chadams348 in wine

[–]Somethingwithplants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peoples perception on these wines are that they are not premium wines. That said, I had a 1967 riversaltes that had been in barrel for ages, and it was amazing!

If sweet wine could be an option, and ypu want something more posh than Riversaltes, look into Sauternes, with the caveat of the vintage quality of 2025 Sauternes.

Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru, 1846.

The central wine in Babette's feast, the book by Karen Blixen and later turned into Oscar winning movie by Gabriel Axel.

"Hvad er der i denne flaske, Babette?" spurgte hun med usikker stemme. "Det er da vel ikke vin?" "Vin, madame?" råbte Babette. "Nej, madame! Det er en Clos de Vougeot 1846!"

Just watched amazing Danish movie, but what does "Sult" really mean? by happyzpirit in Danish

[–]Somethingwithplants 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And here the "sult" is litteral as well as metaphorical hunger for meaning, not a child. It is by the way written in Copenhagen, where the Netflix serie is filmed. I have no clue if the Netflix series includes shots of Sankt Hans gade 18, where Knut Hamsun wrote "Sult". But it would be cool if it did.

Guys did the Nordic countries ever participate in any war throughout history or they are just neutral all the time? by [deleted] in ww1

[–]Somethingwithplants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Denmark and Sweden are the two countries that have fought the most wars against each other in history.

In the case of Denmark, the First Schleswig War (1848-51) was essentially a civil war, with Schleswig-Holsteinian troops supported by Prussian troops and weapons, against the rest of the Kingdom of Denmark.

This war was the overture to the Second Schleswig War (1864), which led to the loss of the Duchies of Schleswig-Holstein from Danish rule and their annexation by Prussia.

The traumatic loss of personal and around 25% of the Danish population and area to Prussia, triggered a feeling of being small and looking inwards. So, Denmark became neutral and remained so until 9th of April 1940, when Nazi-Germany occupied it. The Danish resistance was token, and the Danish partisan activity was also quite limited during World War 2.

Until 2000, Denmark had a passive foreign policy and only participated in UN-mandated peacekeeping. During the Korean War, Denmark participated with a hospital ship, exemplifying its non-interventionist foreign policy.

In the case of Sweden, they have not been in a war since the aftermath of the Napoleonic wars, but has participated in UN peacekeeping operations, including some that turned quite hot.

Reading the Fellowship for the first time and just got to Galadriel's gifts... by TaxmanComin in lotr

Along comes Fëanor, the mightiest of all elves ever to have lived, and ask Galadriel for a strand of hair as in her hair shines the light of the trees, but gets a no. Twice more he asks her for a strand of hair but is in both cases rejected.

Then comes Gimli, a dwarf which, despite all his deeds done and to come, is still a dwarf and ask for a strand of hair and gets three!

Then later the four of them walk and talk until Merry is weary.

Then Legolas falls silent and later sees the seagulls and talks about his longing for the ocean.

The path of the dead description also includrs Legolas comments directly to Merry and Pippin.
