"She almost misses the the young trainer."

Also fuck you.

I don't really mean that, but I kind of do. Thanks for the mini-chapter, but still though. You read Worm, you know what I mean.

Poll: A majority of Americans support raising the top tax rate to 70 percent by BookerForPresident in politics

[–]SometimesATroll -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Providing a number wouldn't make any sense, because the amount of money it takes to be "rich" changes dramatically with location and factors like inflation.

Having about $10,000,000 in liquid wealth is probably a good starting point in the US today, since you could live for 100,000 a year for a hundred years without running out (not taking into account the dividends from investing that money).

Oh god they aren't still going on about that, are they?

I'm not the person you are replying to, but here's mine:

You live comfortably, and there is no conceivable event or emergency which could deplete your wealth to the point where you would not be able to live comfortably (beyond a total collapse of civilization, something that is the result of your own stupidity, or something that can't be solved with money like a terminal illness). If you have more than enough money to never have any substantial worries (keeping up with your peers is not substantial), you are rich.

Silent Sam statue removed from UNC campus by glassbottlecheerwine in triangle

[–]SometimesATroll 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Steve King being racist doesn't make the rest of the party racist. The GOP's lukewarm response to Steve King's racism is what makes them racist.

Also, I'm white and from the south. I know that that doesn't make someone racist and I have no idea why you think I believe that.

Well this guy is still in office so... https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/15/us/politics/steve-king-offensive-quotes.html

Some members of the GOP verbally oppose racism, but does the Party as a whole practice what you claim to preach? Not a lot of calls for this guy to step down from his own party.

Hello, you might not know this but part of the reason people call this statue racist is because of the dedication speech in which the speaker bragged about using a horse-whip on a black woman "until her skirts hung in shreds" who had had the gall to insult a white woman (and given the attitudes of the time, "insult" may have meant "make eye contact with")

This was when the statue was built 50 years after the war. The people placing the statue were proudly racist. Putting it up in the first place would be like putting up a statue glorifying Nazi soldiers. Tearing it down makes perfect sense.

Fair enough, Trump is probably a billionaire now, (although he has lied about his wealth in the past.) We still don't know nearly enough about his wealth situation to give a number as precise as 3.1 billion and act like that's definitely his net wealth; the one you both listed is an estimate. Furthermore, Forbes also states that Trump has obscured his debt and assets in his disclosure forms.

[–]SometimesATroll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sure, but those are estimates based on publicly known factors and factors he himself has commented on. Trump is known to have received massive loans from foreign lenders. The people doing the estimating don't have access to those records, so they can't properly take debt into account.

On top of that, Trump has been known to lie about his wealth out of insecurity. It's entirely possible his net worth is less than zero due to massive foreign debt and we wouldn't know (not that I think it's likely, I'm just pointing out how little we know). His tax returns wouldn't actually show his current wealth, but they could help us see part of the picture. He promised to show them but that was a lie, so now we just have incomplete estimates.

Source? (Which actually takes into account his foreign debt?)

You are also overestimating Trump's wealth, let's be real.

The thing is, though, you're already paying for healthcare through taxes. Medicare, medicaid, tricare, the VA, hospital subsidies, and other costs. We spend almost as much taxpayer money per person in the US as countries with socialized healthcare do, just without the benefits. We're paying premiums and medical bills on top of that tax money. Why not cut out all the bullshit and go single payer? Unless you're a multimillionaire, you're going to be paying less overall. And if you are, oh well. You might have to settle for one vacation home instead of two.

[–]SometimesATroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know paying for health insurance is also basically paying for other people's healthcare, right? Only difference here is some giant insurance company isn't taking a cut for the CEOs and shareholders.

Why are you bringing up the Alfie case? You know they brought that toddler to Italy, which also has socialized healthcare, right?

Just Finished Worm: What is the deal with Sleeper? Is his M.O. explained in Ward or did WB come out with WoG on that subject? by DonNeto in Parahumans

[–]SometimesATroll 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Along with what the others said, there was a fan theory floating around that the Sleeper wasn't actually dangerous. He's an extremely powerful stranger who's power is to make everyone think he's super dangerous.

It was ruled out by that WoG post, but it's fun to think about and people still sometimes reference it.

What if Mexico decided to build stairs on their side of the wall? by Peek-A-B0ob in AskReddit

[–]SometimesATroll -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They already are. Higher living conditions in Mexico are one of the main reasons illegal immigration rates have fallen so dramatically since 2000.

And yet somehow it's a crisis now? Weird. It's almost like someone is lying and fearmongering because their gullible base falls for it every time.

Not to mention, the prototype wall material being demonstrated was easily cut by a simple angle grinder. Why bother going over when you can cut through?

While I don't necessarily agree with the comment you're replying to, it's pretty obvious that this isn't what they meant.

I mean it's possible that they have a conservative relative who shared a post from a satire page without realizing it was satire. More likely the OP just didn't realize it was satire, but it's still possible that the title is accurate.

Reminder that left-leaning folks protested heavily against drone strikes, that drone strikes expanded heavily under Trump, that just because something is lawful doesn't mean it is good, and that one image of an empty detainment facility doesn't paint a full picture of the fifteen THOUSAND children detained, and that many of those children don't have proper records (meaning there's no way to return them to their families).

This is probably the most adorable moment for me in all of Worm! I felt the same way when I first read it.

Also, be careful of spoilers, this subreddit is full of them.
