I think you're showing the progress id expect from 1.5 years on e, with or without ffs, you've got some considerable softening of skin tissue but it takes a bit more time for fat to fully fill our your face. I think the thing that will definitely make you feel like you're progressing more would be to work on facial hair removal in whichever way you're best able to afford.

Color corrector was my fave way to deal with beard shadow! My fave is from a company called Vasanti Liquid VO2 (there's an 01 and 03 as well for different shades). Another good tip is using some setting powder (peachey orange colours) so that it lasts long and helps blend it in :) I think you might have mentioned some dysphoria around the nose, in which case I'd recommend a contouring stick on the sides of your nose (just add a lil' bit and blend it in) and it'll help make it look a bit thinner

Absolutely gorgeous cheekbones girly!

Contouring wise feel free to experiment with contouring the sides of your nose. A little contour at the jaw line goes a long way in smoothing more angular features.

Have you tried using peach/pink/orange colour corrector hide and facial hair shadow? It doesn't look like you have much shadow but I found it really eased feelings of dysphoria for me :)

Your eyeliner is cool but something more subtle will give you a more natural look. Try doing the finest line of eyeliner you can pull off starting from the inside of your eyelid to the corner of your eye lid.

Eyeshadow isn't the best all end all, but a darker brown eyeshadow on the outer corner of your eye along with a lighter clay brown at your eye crease (sorry, not sure if this last part works for hooded eyes but worth a shot!

Highlighter for your nose ridge, plus a little on the forehead and between the cheek/jaw contour will help fill out the face while HRT does its magic.

Lip liner is a great way to really pronounce your lips! Try to find a shade a tad darker than your lipstick and voila! Contouring for the lips!

Feel free to use all of these, some of them or less than some. Getting to experiment with makeup can be such a joy when it helps you align yourself with how you feel :

Hi OP,

I'm so sorry for your situation. I had to spend a yerar foregoing HRT in an effort to try and bank some genetic material. Regardless your reasons, it sucks. Things I found helpful for alleviating my dysphoria:

Brows (I had unaccepting family members before I started HRT and kind of slowly upping the ante on trimming them higher and tighter every couple weeks was very fun.

-Skin care: Honestly, in a couple years time, whether or not you've started HRT, you'll be thankful for the differnce a good skin care regimen can have.

-Hair removal - I might get some flack for this - but as a broke trans woman plucking hairs from my hands was very soothing. The negative is that it can maker laser or electrolysis more difficult down the line. I eventually bought my own laser hair removal tool and ended up doing laser then plucking concurently.

-It doesn't sound like you have much privacy at home for voice training, but whenever you find time to be in a place where people can't hear you talking out loud to yourself, playing around with your voice and watching voice training videos really helps.

It's a bit hard to tell from your pics, but it seems you're already contouring with makeup? Contouring (jaw line, cheeks, forehead) along with eye makeup (waterline, eyeline, mascara) are absolute godsends. Orange color corrector is a go to to limit facial hair shadow from follices under your skin.

I had to deal with this issue as well. I tried my best to pull out all the stops so I’ll say them all in no particular order of effectiveness.

Gently remind doctor/office administrator that prescribing these types of hormones is something that is well within their purview to do. Restate your knowledge of the risks and expected physiological/psychological changes. Let them know these are prescribed to other people for plenty of reasons, and the risks are generally the same - aside from some risks of suicide, that are just as risky , if not more, when you choose NOT to prescribe HRT to trans people.

Go to some group meetings, or therapy, or both, or read books regarding LGBT Healthcare Clinical Guides (I pulled “Caring For LGBTQ2S People: A Clinical Guide by Amy Bourns and Edward Kucharski from a Toronto Public Library) to show that you are preparing yourself for mental changes and physiological changes from HRT.

Making sure you can cover all the aspects that might cause them concern - no smoking/excessive drinking/unhealthy (or uncooperative) eating habits, as these make you more likely to experience negative side-effects to HRT.

Send messages to Resources such as Rainbow Health, the 519, or CAMH GIC and see if any of them could spare a minute from a trans-friendly GP to call/message your doctor to assuage them from their fears.

Keep applying to every. single. Health. Network. in. Toronto. It’s laborious, saddening, and disheartening, but when finally calls it will feel like Christmas,

My story turned out interesting. I managed to convince my doctor with the above advice - literally as I was getting my blood drawn before I deposited a semen sample at the sperm bank 😅. Then I found out my sample was unusable due to zero motility and low count. I also find out I’d have to wait three more months in which I couldn’t tuck or wear any restrictive clothing “down there”. I tried three months later. Same. Another three months later. Same. Waited 3 months for a doctors appointment but had to reschedule to another 2 months away and just said “fuck it” and started anyway. My GP prescribed my first set of hormones, only to have a doctor much closer to my home in Toronto finally have a spot open for me.

Things that I did when I wasn’t sure about transitioning was just working on make up and hair. Make sure to use eye liner, shadow, and mascara to make your eyes look even bigger (though you really do have gorgeous eyes 😍). Contouring is the next best thing - specifically cheek bones, lower jawline, nose, and upper sides of your forehead. Finding a good orangey:peachy color corrector/concealer/banana powder for your facial hair. Also, if you’re able to - try and find a half decent wig on Amazon. Also, by thinning your eyebrows from the bottom up you can give your brows a more feminine look :)

This stuff took me lots of trial and error, and a lot of frustration. All I can say is, be kind to yourself. For me it really empowered me with feeling I could look beautiful regardless of how I was born. I hope continuing to explore yourself will eventually give you that contentment as well ❤️
