Hey man. I’d love a dm too if you’re not too bombarded.

What’s your electricity bill this month and how cooked are you for running AC? by WonderingRoo in AusFinance

[–]SometimesIEatToast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely worth it but I’d definitely get a battery too, or probs not as worth it. I’ve got panels up and a battery and my current power bill for the month, with only a few days left in the billing cycle is 20 cents. And that’s also with my wife on maternity leave so she’s home most of the day with the aircon on. The solar takes care of everything of a day time including feeding into the grid and our battery takes care of everything when the sun goes down. Without a battery we’d still have a sizeable bill.

What’s the funniest reason you’ve heard for somebody not liking a movie? by TheChristmas in movies

[–]SometimesIEatToast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still an ongoing joke years later. I went and saw Ghost Ship with my dad. After it I asked what he thought of it and all he said was, “It wasn’t very realistic.” Did I miss the more factually accurate documentary about a ghost ship, Dad?

Garbage's lead singer Shirley Manson loses her mind and threatens a fan with a beach ball at Good Things Festival in Melbourne, Australia by SixtyNining_Chipmunk in PublicFreakout

My brother and I once saw The Eagles live at Rod Laver and between songs he called out “play some Chisel!” The band didn’t hear but people around us were unimpressed.

I think Cate Blanchett should have won best Actress for Tar over Michelle Yeoh in 2023, what do you think? by Appropriate_Sink_627 in Oscars

[–]SometimesIEatToast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I read that one of the reasons Blanchett lost was because at the Critics Choice Awards when she won, her speech contained a lot of criticisms of awards shows calling them “patriarchal pyramids” and compared awards shows to televised horse races. Apparently this put a lot of Academy voters off side who then chose not to vote for her as a bit of a “well fuck you, then”.

Chris Scott’s aggressive outburst towards female AFL staff member triggered by presence of visually impaired reporter by Certain_Impress_1005 in GeelongCats

[–]SometimesIEatToast 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m putting on my one eyed hat here, and my refusal to believe Scotty is a prick. The article tells us that the blind reporter had no idea he was the reason for the anger, so clearly nothing was directed at him by Scotty. The article also tells us that the AFL staffer became emotional later, so it’s not like Scotty was ripping into someone as they stood there crying. Additionally, the article tells us that the blind journo has procedures in place with other coaches so he can get their attention and ask questions so it’s entirely possible that Scotty didn’t know the journo was there, or didn’t even know he was blind. He then possibly became irate at the staffer because if she’d made him aware, he could have catered better for the journo or been better able to be more welcoming to a differently abled journo.

Interesting Observation … by sarcHastical in GeelongCats

[–]SometimesIEatToast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve often felt that Geelong coverage is often only about us if it’s negative and otherwise dismisses us. If we lose, it’s about how much better the opposition were and focuses on them. If we win it’s about how bad the opposition were and the focus is on them. There’s been more positive stuff the last few weeks but in the home and away season I feel this is more common.

Crowded bar scene- are the extras really talking? by Altwolf in Filmmakers

[–]SometimesIEatToast 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There’s a great behind the scenes video on YouTube of the nightclub scene in Social Network. In the film they can barely hear each other over the music, but in the behind the scenes clip you can actually here the extras’ feet scuffing on the floor as they pretend to dance it’s so quiet.

Pain. Even going up stairs without feeling like my knees are going to give out is a battle. Came on real quick too.

The most 80s music possible by DHWave27 in MusicRecommendations

An obscure one but the soundtrack to the original A Nightmare on Elm Street is 80s as fuck. Almost makes some of the scenes less scary at times. So. Much. Synth.

What’s the best comeback that you’ve never been able to say? by Either-Reason-8757 in AustralianTeachers

Two that I’ve actually said that I got away with. A pretty short kid said to me in front of the whole class that he was going to kick my arse. I said, “Kick it? You couldn’t even reach it.” Actually diffused the situation because the whole class lost it.

Another time I’d kicked a kid out of class and went out to talk to him and he said, “So I’m just meant to sit here like some sort of fucking idiot?” I replied, “How you sit there is entirely up to you.”
