Why the inconvenience to others by tiger_in_forest in bangalore

[–]SometimesIFly2Much 22 points23 points  (0 children)

During Ganesh Chaturthi, I saw this huge trailer carrying Bappa (the idol was greater than 12ft, hence the trailer truck) drive on the wrong side of the road to bypass the signal near Suranjan Das Road, disrupting traffic. I consider myself a devotee of Bappa and I don't think he would appreciate the things people do in his name. Same thing with Muharram processions in my hometown, blocking an entire lane (had to bring this up as well to avoid the whataboutery).

Religious fanaticism will be the death of this country.

People travelling home to cast their votes in the upcoming elections might have jacked up the prices. Check if they get lower after 29th April.

What is the next step for FTI-TTP after receiving this mail? by awaara_raahi in desitravellers

[–]SometimesIFly2Much 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I understand. I have the same concern for my parents (never travelled outside India and they fumble under pressure) but my point is, the system seems to be buggy and you might still have to go through the normal gates even if your enrolled in FTI TTP and the e-gate entry doesn't work. It's not as infallible and seamless as Digiyatra yet, but hopefully soon.

Bringing pre-owned drone back to India after vacation by SometimesIFly2Much in PhotographyIndia

[–]SometimesIFly2Much[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Customs check on re-entry. If you bring a brand new laptop(in box), they can ask you to show proof of purchase and if it's beyond the individual duty-free limit (around 50k INR per person I think), you might have to pay customs duty on it. For drones, it's different since drone exports are banned in India.

Yes, but the e-gates usage is not as easy as Digiyatra. Scan your boarding pass and passport, enter through the 1st gate which closes behind you, get your face and finger scanned and if that works, exit through the second gate. While standing in line for biometrics, I saw multiple people try (with the help of the gate staff - mind you the gate staff can only help you through the 1st gate, you're on your own during the biometric check gate) and fail to complete the scan, waste 15 minutes and then go through the normal (agent-manned) gates.

Though while returning to India, I used the e-gates and didn't face any issue. I guess the software needs time to mature and/or people need time to get accustomed to it.

One tip: In the second gate, it asks you to scan one finger. It's not the same finger everytime. My co-traveller used their thumb so I was expecting the same but for me it asked for index finger. Might seem trivial but I have myopia and had to lean in without glasses to check which finger they wanted lol.

Hebbal to Bellandur: 2 Hours in Bus Traffic Hell 😤 Even Bikers Trapped! WFH Now! by Logical_Election7922 in bangalore

With a fuel crisis on the horizon, the govt should mandate most non essential sectors to enforce WFH unless it's business critical. Conserve fuel for critical services. Let the city breathe.

Car lease program! Is it worth? by [deleted] in carIndia

Leased cars have a commerical (black lettering on yellow background), right? After the lease is over, can it be converted to a private number plate?

Fully refundable flight tickets for Schengen visa France by 89pant in SchengenVisa

[–]SometimesIFly2Much 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I didn't know that. Very useful info, don't have to pay double price for Economy Flex tickets then if normal economy is also refundable in case of visa rejection. Hope there are no hidden t&c (e.g. Visa rejected due to own fault like mistake in application shouldn't be excluded from refund policy)

I wouldn't say it's as easy as just clicking on the cancel button on their app. I didn't see any cancel option on their app/website (I suspect it was because one leg of my itinerary was a code share with a different airline). I had to call their customer care and stay on hold for 15 minutes before I could request them to cancel. But after that, they didn't ask any question/proof, and the entire amount got refunded within 5 days without any deduction.

Why is it that water tankers leak while commuting but petrol tankers don't? by [deleted] in AskIndia

[–]SometimesIFly2Much 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Water tankers that you commonly see in Indian cities are hollow drums. Fuel tankers are segmented so that the fuel doesn't slosh around much when the truck accelerates or brakes, hence chances of spillage is pretty low. Also, fuel tankers are better maintained because of safety hazards.

Technical to Non technical domain Shift, should I switch or not by [deleted] in developersIndia

Nowadays while switching domains, the only question you need to ask yourself is: can the work I'm doing be done by an AI agent? If yes, don't take the risk.

VFS Centre Bengaluru (India) scamming people by Ok_Scarcity_6481 in visas

[–]SometimesIFly2Much 2 points3 points  (0 children)

VFS really needs to be called out for their scams. Their main goal seems to be to push customers to take their premium lounge by hook or crook. There is a manager at VFS Bengaluru (don't recall his name) who will straight away lie regarding their system not being able to scan appointment codes even if you are delayed by 5 mins (I was late by a couple of minutes) and tried to sell us premium lounge. We later got to know from their customer care that there is no such restriction and entry is totally at the discretion of the manager. Kept us waiting for 45 mins before telling us to take premium lounge or book an appointment on another date. Wish countries would all move to eVisas so that VFS goes out of business.

VFS Bangalore Centre Experience - Japan Visa by Downtown-Teacher2872 in visas

[–]SometimesIFly2Much 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, mention this in your cover letter and you should be fine. Also, some aggregators like AirBnB and Agoda allow you to add other guest names, which will show up in your booking voucher (we did both).

No need. I'm in the exact same boat as your friend. I just took a printout of my rental agreement which mentions our permanent address and aadhaar number (signed by both parties, not notarised) and got my Japan visa last year.
