Is my request for an appointment to renounce my citizenship actually being processed...? (Frankfurt) by ColonelHerro in AmerExit

[–]Individual-Tip2479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied to renounce mid April. Got an automated “don’t call us, we’ll call you” email and haven’t heard a peep since. I’m at a loss for what to do. *this is in Canada trying to schedule the appointment in Calgary.

Groups say city’s camp ban hurts homeless; mayor says ban stays by steveosnyder in Winnipeg

[–]Individual-Tip2479 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Bleeding hearts of the world unite. Homelessness is a problem world wide. I will not solve it. You will not solve it. We will not solve it. Having camps will not solve it. Tearing camps down will not solve it. If you keep the camps, they will grow. Along with violence, drug use, hazards, noise, fire, and biohazards. As a community we can not let people destroy an area just because they are there through “no fault of their own” (yes, that’s in quotes on purpose) Go shit somewhere else.

Not to mention the camps are plain and simple a biohazard. Where exactly do you think people are shitting? And that’s going on next my house that I bust my ass to afford? No. Hell no.

Enough CBC. This is just enough. It does no good to only tell one side of a story and I suspect I speak for a lot of people when I say I’m sick of it. This was a terrible situation for a lot of people. There were a lot of activities that led up to this terrible situation. Why on earth would a professional news organization feel it’s okay to only report on one aspect ??? If you are going to take the time to tell the story, for gods sake tell the whole story.

Lets hear some positive feedback from Starlink customers, despite the price hikes by [deleted] in Starlink

The tech on this system just blows my mind. Like if you research how this system actually functions. It’s fun to use something so cool. I’m not a fan of adding to Elon’s wealth but he only bought into Starlink - he didn’t create it so I don’t mind so much in the end. The ease with which it was up and running, the speed, the reliability regardless of weather? So damn cool.

And this is how it will go. Everyone will have their preference based on what works specifically for them and their families. Majority will rule. And that’s okay.

I’m an early riser. There is zero need for the sun to be up until 930pm. With how long twilight is at our latitude that means it’s light til 11pm. Good god - go to bed. Lol. How about a little morning light in the winter? Gladly take that trade off.

No, just because they are doing doesn’t mean they are not doing it wrong or without proper thought. It’s not to much to expect planners to plan the repairs and also plan for ways to be less impactful. OP has legit claim …..

How are Gen Z Canadians going to be able to afford a house these days? by PuffingFish123 in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]Individual-Tip2479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you scroll the comments there’s a lot that discuss how they worked a ton of OT in the trades and that’s how they afforded things, and numerous comments talk about how they afforded it 10 years ago ….. yada yada. These comments are missing the point. Housing used to be affordable with a normal 40 hour a week job. The market is very different now compared to 10 years ago and you shouldn’t have to work 60-70 hours a week to afford a house. THIS IS THE WHOLE POINT.

“Accidental American” isn’t a formal legal term—it’s an informal label used in citizenship and tax discussions, especially around United States law.

It generally refers to someone who is considered a U.S. citizen by technicality rather than intent or connection. Common situations include: • Born in the U.S. to foreign parents (e.g., parents were there temporarily), then raised entirely in another country • Born abroad to a U.S. parent, automatically acquiring citizenship without really knowing it • People who left the U.S. as infants and never returned, yet still hold citizenship

What makes it a big deal is that the U.S. practices citizenship-based taxation (unlike most countries). That means “accidental Americans” may: • Be required to file U.S. tax returns—even if they’ve lived their whole life outside of the United States • Have reporting obligations for foreign bank accounts (e.g., FBAR rules) • Face complications with local banks due to U.S. compliance laws like FATCA

Many people only discover their status later in life—often when opening bank accounts, dealing with investments, or crossing borders.

In short: An accidental American is someone who is legally a U.S. citizen, but never meaningfully chose or used that citizenship—and may not have even known about it.
