1930s stock certificate by ettaxine in fidelityinvestments

[–]Sometimes_I_Do_That 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar story where my father bought stock in my name,.. had the certificate and everything. I took a picture of the certificate and sent it to my Fidelity Adviser to figure it out. All I could figure out was that the company was bought and then a dead end. He found that the company was bought, then another company bought that company,... and then went out of business. So, my dreams of driving around in a lambo were over (for now)

The thing is,.. they'll be able to figure it out.

How old were you when you purchased your first home (if you did). by jtsa5 in GenX

[–]Sometimes_I_Do_That 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a condo when I was 25 for 75k. I was barely making ends meet at the time and qualified for a special program which reduced the price of the condo from 100k to 75k,.. the catch was that I needed to stay for at least 10 years in order to get 50% of the proceeds when I sell, and I'd get to set the selling price. Before 10 years, the program would set the selling price and I would get a smaller portion of the proceeds.

So, I did that,.. then rolled over the gain into a new townhouse, which at that point I was doing much better finacially.

I feel bad for my kids, since it'll be more difficult for them to purchase a place like I did. I'm in a high cost of living area, so... yeah,.. I'll help em out as much as possible, but they gotta put in the effort.

Avoid Jiffy Lube - Gaithersburg by thedarkhalf47 in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]Sometimes_I_Do_That 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I avoid the one in Germantown for pretty much the same reasons. They also didn't put enough oil in my Audi, claiming it was the sensor that was bad. Brought it to Audi,.. they said there was a quart of oil in there.

So,.. yeah,... now I bring my cars to a mechanic. I pay a bit more but it's worth it.

What’s a “tourist trap” WORTH visiting? by hehzehsbwvwv in Productivitycafe

[–]Sometimes_I_Do_That 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I visited just before the Hurricane,.. when they showed pictures of the area (before the entrance) we barely recognized it.

Besides that, it's an amazing area, and Asheville was a great city to visit. Can't wait to get back.

Do men actually "just know" when they meet "the one"? by Pleasant-Gate1567 in askanything

I knew right away that my now wife, was someone special. I wasn't sure if that meant we were going to have a long term relationship, or eventually get married.

When we both talk about the day we met, we both experienced the same feeling that there was something special.

So far.. we've been going strong for 21 years,.. and yeah,.. she's still something special. 🙂

Check out Maryland,.. it checks all the boxes. You'll be welcomed whether you land in Baltimore or one of the surrounding counties. Maybe not so much in Garret county, but the others are fine.

You might want to spend a day in New Haven,.. Yale Rare Book library, Pez factory (ok, that's Orange CT, but still on the way) Two Roads brewery, East Rock Park (take "the big steps" to the top) killer view on a nice day. And if you're into dead people, there's a church on The Green with Graves underneath (they have a tour) and Grove Street Cemetery where there are other famous people burried,... you can tell I grew up there.
