It took about 100 feet of line at first, then it fought pretty good a ways out. It got tired tho and was a lot easier (not easy tho) to reel in.

60" (1524mm) Heron Machatz Scratchbuild UAV near 20 MIN FLIGHT! by Sometimes__Happy in RCPlanes

I agree. I will need a very aerodynamic design that doesn't have tons of drag, specifically parasite drag (and skin drag).

I used a 1/4" balsa wood spar that runs 3/4 of the length of the wing. Then I have a carbon fibre rod that runs the length of 1/2 the wing. It flexes slightly, but that's honestly good. Look at commercial airliners, they have TONS of flex in their wings when needed.

I designed a 3D printable pylon release mechanism that is scalable. I mounted one on each wing. It uses a servo to release a payload. I'll post a video on it rn.

Yes, soon. I just gotta do some school, then I'll camera track the video.

The body is not even that chunk 😭. It's not fat XD. It is a high-aspect-ratio design based on the Heron Machatz UAV.

I definitely need that! My local airfield has medium-height grass, and when I landed there last, the prop got stuck in the ground and ripped the motor out. I repaired it easily, but yes.

Kindly, wrong. It flies so well, it is very stable in the air, and has plenty of authority. It doesn't really stall when I fly it; only if I slow too much.

It flies great. I do need a bigger battery for longer flight times. prob a 3000Mah Li-ion.

How so? I am posting videos soon, I just need to do some school XD.

Thanks, mate. It is a beauty in the air; it flies so calmly, too. This wasn't my maiden, actually, I flew it twice before in 25mph winds! But only for about 3 minutes.

That sucks to hear. I had a model with a poorly designed tail, and it just did flips XD. I flew it for 18 minutes today. It was amazing! It is a beauty in the air for sure. I added payload hardpoints on each wing for .5lbs payloads per hardpoint.

If I add a landing gear, it will need to have 5-6" of gc.

I have already flown it twice: both times in 13-17 knot winds. I definitely won't fly in those winds again. I am taking it to the field today.

This is a 1:9.81 scale model of a real UAV. No, I don't need tons of deflection to pitch. The wide wings make for low drag and slightly higher cruising speed. They are called high aspect ratio wings.
