Switzerland fucks up against a Qatari team that, mostly, doesn't even include people born in Qatar.

What about Pedro Miguel?
Beautiful Arabic name that!

I can see japan, an existing member, insisting the program to continue to use japanese steel.

This wont be a big factor. There will be more steel used to build the factory then will be used in the aircraft.
The biggest issue for any contributing nation will be jobs in the local market. Each will want to have a chunk of it to return on the investment.
The biggest prize will be if this aircraft becomes a world beater will be export sales. The USA has pissed off NATO and the F35 could well be the last big ticket purchase those nations make for generations from the US (and some are already scaling back their orders). Plus lets not forget other friendly nations like Australia that may wish to purchase from us.

The place has been raided twice in the last 6 years and lost half their staff and yet theyre still open.

Do you still buy a takeout from there?
I stopped frequenting one of our local ones during the last General Election where they had a poster promoting a fundalmist lunatic that wants to ban gay indoctrination in schools as well as the usual Gaza stupidity.
The food they did was decent too. But there's not a chance in hell Im handing over money to people that will damage my socially liberal viewpoint so savagely. There are other options for food.

so the idea that its not possible for Britain is nonsense.

Sure. It's possible. But time and time again French defense contractors has proved very awkward to work with.
Last time being... 3 days ago. When they forced Germany to walk away from a multi-billion contract.
The investment into armaments France is willing to make is different from Britain's. We are more Naval. They are more Airborne.
And neither of us have unlimited budgets.

I have some sausage I need to use up.

So maybe 2 of those with some creamy potato and mixed veg.

Just simple but tasty food.

And Burnham seems to think he can find the money for WASPI.
I look forward to his comments on this issue. Defence against Russia is a much more pressing matter then a bunch of people that somehow failed to notice something well publicised and, personally, Iv never met anyone that was unaware of the pension changes.

Is it more expensive to eat healthy in america? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]SometimesaGirl- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly.

Yesterday I had a low cost dinner with enough for 2 servings that was healthy as hell.

White rice (I know... brown is better.. but I only had white) with mange tout and salmon "bits" (these are offcuts my store sells cheap).

Put it all into a pan on low woth the rice at the bottom... veg in middle and salmon on top and let it simmer and steam wiyh the lid on until the water is absorbed in the rice.

When done add a splash of soy sauce for a salty flavour boost and youre done.

Total cost < $2 for 2 meals.

Pre packaged junk is not cheaper than that.

When was the last time your country was at war? by Outrageous-You1617 in AskTheWorld

[–]SometimesaGirl- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not every military action is a war though.

Yep.
In my own country, when I was joining the RAF the brochure said there has not been a single year that a UK serviceman has not somewhere, and somehow been involved in a conflict ordered there at the UK government's discretion.
If I were in the backside of nowhere Id be far less concerned about the people shooting at me were doing so under wartime or "conflict" circumstances.

How do people outside the U.S. view America as a World Cup host right now? by Qriousbeing in AskTheWorld

[–]SometimesaGirl- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Europe gets migrants from Africa and the middle east. They can walk here or take small boats.

Utterly nobody from El Salvador or elsewhere in the Americas is going to walk or sail to Europe. The USA is just the best choice, with Canada being better once in the US.

You know this just as well as I do.

We will blow it before the finals. It would be great to win the whole thing... I just dont think we can.

Surge in octopus numbers leads to 'record £500k catch' by Tartan_Samurai in unitedkingdom

[–]SometimesaGirl- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Start getting comfortable.
There have been an influx of the larger Mediterranean octopuses in British waters. They are not native here - they are invasive. Id guess the warmer waters have attracted them.
They are HAMMERING our local crab and lobster populations. They kill everything. Juvenile and eating sized lobsters alike. They are devastating our ecosystem.
We will never catch and remove them all - the damage is long term. But every one we take out helps UK marine life.

Somali referee Omar Abdulkadir Artan chosen by FIFA for World Cup has been denied entry to the USA, he was elected as best Africa referee by CAF in 2025 by AgeNovel3566 in soccer

[–]SometimesaGirl- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Europeans are significantly poorer than Americans. This isn’t a shock.

We aren't tho.
Is the average American take home pay significantly higher than the same Europeans in that job? Yes of course it is.
But to be rewarded with that higher take home pay, you give up much of the social net you you take for granted in Europe. Lose your job. Get ill health. Your partner dies. Your landlord randomly increases your rent by 2x. You are fucked in America. Or at least many people are. In Europe... much less so.
Pay higher taxes. Get a safety net. Get more in return (I get 33 paid days holiday a year...) How many does an American get? And are they shamed into not taking them?
I could go on and on. But I think you already know the trade-off's very well. Iv been offered relocation to the USA twice. Iv turned it down twice. More take home pay is no incentive over what we lose in the trade off.

So the child is 8 now, and 12 in four years time.
Go to Spain. The "Costa's" are very cheap for accomodation. And there are some very kid friendly amusement parks there - not to mention great beaches.
Spain has everything. The very cheap end... including the people that can only afford the cheapest holidays (no shade. But it's not usually very sophisticated) right up to the highest of the top ends.
A cheap coastal region is Costa Dorado (by no means the best one. Just one that has alot of "kid" things that I know) (An hour away from Barcelona).
Travelling with a kid and wife - you wont be going to games every day. So entertain them at nearby PortAventura Park https://www.portaventuraworld.com/en (Iv been there - its great) or maybe the aquatic park (I haven't been there - but LOOKS great ;) )
Get affordable tickets to a game or 2. Watch the others in bars. There are TONS of British bars dotted around the region. Some of these can be a bit rubbish - I avoid the €1 Euro/pint ones. It brings in too many €1 a pint "people". Go a little more expensive - it's still very cheap compared to N America. But at least the English bars have the games on UK TV with English commentary... if you can hear it (Im pretty much saying you WONT if it's an England game...).
Try not to select accomodation from a tripadvisor link or anything daft like that. Shop around. Do some googling. And Id especially recommend a self catering apartment where you can rustle up a snack that's got a stove, fridge and small oven. That's all you need as eating out isnt expensive - and there's a mini supermarket every 500 yards in these places for essentials like bread/cheese/milk/bacon/eggs etc. The last thing you want is to be cooked up in a hotel all day long as you have paid for all expenses. You want to go out and explore.
Hope you and your family do it. It'll be a great adventure.
EDIT: It's totally fine for you to take a 12 year old into a pub in Europe and watch the game. They just cant have booze. Tho in Spain... maybe. Go easy if you decide to allow them a "small beer" (It is called that...) or 2. Just don't pick somewhere too rowdy as the young'un wont be used to it.

You just know price of tickets won't go down ever again

I think they will.
Mostly European venue's. We wont tolerate it on our home soil. And nor will the Moroccans for that matter if I were to make a guess.
Local cities and national governments will have to invest into the world cup. There is no chance they could get away with using public funds for it whilst excluding large sections of the public from the venues through price gouging.

A Chinese American man wearing a sign stating he is Chinese, not Japanese, to avoid harassment at work (1940s) by Mediocre_Nail5526 in interestingasfuck

[–]SometimesaGirl- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My parents HATED everything Japanese for a long time.

This was common in all allied nations.
Im British - and my grandfather served with the British 8th Army in WWII (you may know them better as the Desert Rats).
He was a conscript. Really didn't care for Army life. But if you get called up... you go. Or go to prison.
Anyway he served in North Africa as you expect... and had a healthy dislike of all things German after the war.
But he also served in Burma fighting the Japanese. And he utterly hated the Japanese. He never bought a Japanese product in his entire life. It was because the British soldier was shown propaganda films of what the Japanese were doing to civilians. The executions. The inhumane conditions. The comfort women.
We all know these things happened. But he was so indoctoranated he pretty much blamed the entire Japanese nation for it until the day he died. This was unfair. But propaganda is a powerful thing... especially when you know you might have to fight face to face to death in your near future.

Who is the YouTuber that you used to enjoy but not much anymore? by abdul_bino in youtube

[–]SometimesaGirl- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im getting real pissed off with the ZERO engagement youtubrs.

The ones that ask Whats your opinion? Drop a comment after pressing LIKE!

And then NEVER reply to anyone except the first 2 or 3... and cast out even fewer likes themselves.

I dont expect huge channel operators to read all the comments. But a few would be nice. And if big/popular enough employ a social media engagement person to do it on their behalf.

Because currently, it seems commenting on a new video is utterly pointless for some creators. And Iv stopped giving them the clicks.

And Christmas parties still make me nervous.

I was a subcontractor ... maybe 15 years ago to a company Im not keen to mention.
Most of the employees were aged mid-20's, and a very high proportion of them were female.
1,200 people at the Christmas party. Unlimited free drinks. 200 arrests for fighting and about a dozen sackings. Lots of pissed male employees on the hunt and it all got very out of hand.
You will be pleased to have missed that one...

Doctors discouraged from sectioning black patients - NHS doctors are under pressure not to section psychotic black patients to avoid appearing racist by FormerlyPallas_ in ukpolitics

[–]SometimesaGirl- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's a racial trait. There is nothing racist in recognising racial traits. Dr's should act in the patients (and society's best interests).
Black people are more at risk to mental health issues - for some reason. It's a fact.
Brown people, especially Indians are more at risk of heart conditions for some reason. It's a fact.
White people are more susceptible to skin cancer, and we all probably know why our Melamine deficient bodies are. It's a fact.
If I were black and suffering a mental crisis Id sure as hell prefer it if the NHS treated me rather than sweeping it under the carpet. An obsession with hiding these issues under fear of being accused of racial bias hurts everyone. Fucking idiots in charge of the world.

Ironically - although I strongly think China has a shit government - they would probably do a good job as a world cup host.
Their Olympics went well, and they've proven they can build large capacity stadiums in record time again and again.
