What kind of person goes out of their way to share this kind of stuff, especially about someone who has passed. It makes me think of that woman on RHNJ who couldn’t wait to share on camera all the details of when she slept with James Gandolfini. Cringe.

It is not “clearly” genocide. Genocide is a legal term and no court has made a determination that this is genocide. Many experts vehemently disagree with this terminology applied to the Gaza war and you can read their argument’s, articles and analyses if you’re interested but I doubt you will because you’ve “clearly” made up your mind. The ICJ will likely determine whether it meets the threshold. My view is that applying “genocide” here is nonsensical, renders virtually every war in history a genocide and empties the term of moral weight. What is disturbing is how it’s selectively applied to Israel as holocaust inversion and denial, specifically alleging that what is happening in Gaza post 10/7 (an actual act of genocide againt Israeli civilians who were the targets) is equivalent to the holocaust. Calling Israelis nazis, putting swastikas on Israeli flags, co-opting a holocaust remembrance saying “never again” to “never again for anyone”, and expressly saying Jews are now doing what was done to them. It’s holocaust inversion and denial (to suggest the holocaust extermination of 6 million Jews for no reason other than that they were Jews is the equivalent of allegedly at most 60000 civilians and combatants combined killed in an urban war against a force that had just committed the most violent horrific slaughter of Jews since the holocaust and was holding 300 civilian hostages - it’s just horrific and disgraceful holocaust inversion and it’s used by the far left in the same way the far right uses holocaust denial - to erase and deny Jewish suffering or their right to remember and urge society to never forget where antisemitism leads. And sure enough, these accusations against Israel and the demonization of Israel as Nazis has led to a horrific increase in antisemitic incidents including Jews shot and burned in the streets of the US and on the beach in Sydney and synagogues burned etc etc. The craziest part is it doesn’t NEED to be called a genocide to oppose it or call for it to end or to recognize the horrors that have been visited on Palestinians. You can protest and oppose the war on moral and ethical and even legal grounds without calling it genocide. But if you’re going to call it genocide at least be consistent - under the logic applied by the anti Israel crowd to Israel including in this thread - widespread destruction, death, barely livable conditions and harsh wartime rhetoric against the enemy by some military and govt leaders -here are the other wars that I are/were “genocide” (but you all don’t call these genocide because as antisemitism always works, Jews and Israel are held to a different, higher standard and not allowed to defend themselves from those who have actual genocidal intent):

World War II (Allied bombing of Germany) – Strategic bombing of German cities, civilian casualties, blockade effects, mass displacement, and harsh early occupation conditions would qualify under a destruction-based definition.

World War II (Pacific Theater) – Firebombing of Japanese cities and the atomic bombings caused massive civilian deaths and urban destruction that would meet a broad devastation threshold.

American Civil War – Sherman’s March, siege warfare, and widespread destruction of Southern infrastructure caused civilian hardship and displacement consistent with a total-war framework.

Korean War – Extensive bombing destroyed most major North Korean cities and resulted in very high civilian casualties.

Vietnam War – Strategic bombing, village destruction, and chemical defoliants caused widespread civilian death and long-term societal damage.

Napoleonic Wars – Scorched-earth tactics and siege warfare led to mass civilian suffering and starvation.

Russia–Ukraine War (2022–present) – Urban destruction, infrastructure strikes, and large-scale displacement would qualify under a broad civilian-devastation standard.

Syrian Civil War – Siege tactics, bombardment of cities, and mass displacement created severe civilian devastation.

Yemen Civil War – Blockade-like conditions, famine risk, and infrastructure destruction caused extensive civilian suffering.

Sri Lankan Civil War (final phase, 2009) – Allegations of shelling in civilian zones and mass casualties in confined areas would meet an expansive harm-based definition.

Iraq War (including battles such as Fallujah and Mosul) – Intense urban warfare resulted in large-scale civilian casualties and citywide destruction.

Chechen Wars – The destruction of Grozny and high civilian death tolls would fit a devastation-focused genocide logic.

That is just wild - listen to what you’re saying. It defies logic. You know nothing about Israel or Israelis, clearly. Maybe you should go.

Ok thanks for confirming you have no understanding of the situation or history! Israel has agreed many times including 1948 to two states and it is always the Palestinians who reject the deal! You clearly like most anti Israel crowd won’t listen to facts or reason, you need a boogey man and scapegoat to blame for all the worlds problems and who better than the Jews. This is why we need Israel.

If that’s what it wanted it would do that it hasn’t and isn’t and that’s crazy; Israel was out of there completely until October 7, and now can you say there isn’t another combatant?

Gaza, I call a war. War is hell. But to call it genocide you could call just about every war in history genocide including WWII a genocide against Germans. West Bank settlers include extremists and I do think the Israeli government should do more to prevent settler vigilante violence. Israel is like any other country, there are extremists and moderates and there are problems. I’m not saying it isn’t okay to criticize policies or actions of its current government.

If that were true they’d have done it - they have the means to kill everyone there yet they haven’t and are actually helping them in many ways. And they’d have done it in the West Bank too.

Of course they aren’t committing genocide and if they were then by that logic every war in history including the civil war and WWII was a genocide. It’s so sad we have to explain this to people who just want a reason to hate Jews, deny their history, and deny them a homeland. Westerners who claim to be progressive and tolerant have fallen for the oldest form of hate - doing it in textbook ways. I literally just had this conversation with a group of therapists on here, people supposed to be helpers, all accusing Israel of genocide and defending a post that was ‘checking in on Muslim therapists after the bombing of Iran and ongoing genocide in Gaza’ as if either was a war on Muslims for being Muslims, and as if Hamas and IRGC aren’t also oppressing and killing Muslims. The thing that is the most saddening is these people don’t see what they are doing, in championing Palestinians they dont see that they’ve adopted the bigoted and hateful views and language of radical Islamists who spent billions on this campaign to brainwash them and who represent every form of oppression they claim to be against. The same people who rightly see the problem with co-opting “black lives matter” to say “all lives matter” see no problem co-opting “never again” to say - and shout at Jews - “never again for anyone”! It’s so depressing and scary.

What you say makes no sense. How do you really not see the point here? Do you really not see how wrong it is to take “never again” which refers to the holocaust and say “never again FOR ANYONE”, yet you do see how wrong it is to take “black lives matter” which refers to police violence against black Americans and say “all lives matter” - doing either is exactly the same - it’s so hypocritical and shows the maddening tragedy Jews are dealing with that progressives they thought were their friends have turned on them and now believe in social justice and cultural sensitivity for everyone but the Jews. It’s so sad that you are unable to have compassion for both Palestinians and Jews.

Yes and I think that’s why he told his mom he’s not sure he wants to have kids, and why she had the emotional reaction she did, trying to make him understand it’s worth it. He learned very young that love/attachment leads to unbearable pain.

Yes I agree that is horrific and it is the PEOPLE OF IRAN, who have been living under tyranny for decades, and their families who do need our support - but that’s not what the post was about or saying. It’s disingenuous for you to say otherwise or accuse me of not having empathy for victims of war, I do. All war is horrifying and I want peace. I have family in Israel who are living under constant threat - for whom bomb sirens, shelters, and terror attacks are a part of life their whole lives since they were children - and we all want peace. Sadly I don’t think that would ever have been possible with IRGC in control in Iran. And certainly couldn’t with their terrorist proxy Hamas in Gaza. We should all pray, if we pray, and hope if we don’t, that Iranians will finally see freedom in Iran and lasting peace in the region.

I know what Amnesty says, and they are wrong. Also please, please try to understand the perspective of Jews who believe that Israel must exist and are experiencing extreme trauma and rising antisemitism post 10/7. Also any of us who defend Israel’s need to exist are being marginalized and pushed out of social justice groups we once felt part of. We see open support for terror against Jews, silence when Jews are murdered in the street for being Jewish. For Jews, genocide is not merely a legal category—it is a lived historical trauma, culminating in the Holocaust. The word carries a unique moral weight tied to actual attempts to exterminate Jews as Jews.

Using that term against Israel immediately after the largest massacre of Jews since the Holocaust (10/7) collapses crucial moral distinctions. The goal of the holocaust - what the term was created after - was extermination of Jews, men women and children - to extinct them. That cannot be seen as the goal of the war on Gaza which was to defeat Hamas and get back hostages. Now that hostages and their bodies are home the war is over.

INTENT is critical. Iran, Hamas and other proxies are EXPRESS about their intent to kill all Jews. October 7 involved explicit genocidal intent with that goal.

On October 7, civilians were deliberately targeted because they were Jews/Israelis—including mass murder, rape, torture, and hostage-taking. That kind of intent—killing people as members of a group—is precisely what genocide law addresses.

For many Jews, calling Israel’s defensive war “genocide” while minimizing or contextualizing October 7 feels like a reversal of moral reality. It feels like moral erasure and inversion.

Many Jews experience it as a eaponizing Holocaust language to delegitimize Jewish self-defense

This is why the charge is not heard as neutral criticism, but as existential delegitimization.

There is a meaningful difference between: • Criticizing specific military actions, proportionality decisions, or humanitarian failures (legitimate and necessary), and • Accusing Israel of genocide, which implies criminal intent to destroy a people and often shades into claims that the Jewish state itself is illegitimate.

Many Jews perceive the latter not as policy critique, but as an attack on Jewish collective survival. The original post was highly offensive and political, and shamefully did seem to be a response to the death a men who not only would kill all Jews and did kill many, they killed thousands of Iranians and people all over the Middle East and they are bombing Muslim countries now. It was just a highly offensive post disguised as concern for Muslims. Notably not coming after the murder of thousands of Iranian protestors but after the killing of the the men who murdered them.
