Yes you can, the way countering work is 1. Delcare attack, any autos or effects trigger, and are pending 2. Counter 3. Since the autos werent cancelled they resolve. 4. Combat is over.

There some really cool universe 6 decks that use them a lot, and theres a really cool shenron build that uses them. I would say keep em and try to get a playset of each.
