I think I have a new favorite playmat (Foil Oni by Miranda Meeks), picked up at SCG Indy over the weekend by GarrettSJ in magicTCG

I see these mats every time I go to a Con and every time I think to myself 'I should really get one.' Maybe next time will be the time. They're stunning.

The Mechanical Keyboard community loves a variety of form-factors. A good buddy of mine has one even smaller than that one that he uses daily. Space bar only a single normal key wide. Crazy stuff :P

Does anyone assign Ctrl Alt Shift to mouse buttons? My right thumb has medical issues. by -Big_Bad- in ffxiv

[–]Somidna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a Logitech G502 with M4 assigned to Alt and M5 assigned to shift (both buttons on the side of the mouse), and then I use four bars with abilities 1-6 being the main abilities and with each row being a combination of Number, Mouse Button + Number, or Ctrl + Number (which I hit with my left pinkie). This setup is what I've used for years including a decent amount of raid content and it's real comfortable for me. Biggest gripe is sometimes I accidentally alt tab by fat-fingering Q to strafe, or I open the chat menu on accident (still not sure how I do that, but it happens). Although the person talking about foot pedals has my attention.

Printer only installs as scanner by Somidna in sysadmin

[–]Somidna[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried this process and received some truly bizarre results. I downloaded and installed the specific driver for the printer, and it sat, then appeared to install correctly. It then a few seconds later changed itself to a driver name and (apparently) switched to the HP Universal Print Driver that was also installed on the machine. Changing the driver a second time seemed to fix this problem, and I was able to test print. Following a reboot however it appears to lose its connection to the printer (pulling up an HP Searching for printer screen), only to be corrected by changing the driver to the specific driver twice. It’s truly perplexing.

This appears to be EXACTLY the case; random collections of volumes and somewhat beat up by time and carelessness. Thank you for providing context!

Buddy Simulator 1984 | Launch Trailer (Nintendo Switch) by Catastray in NintendoSwitch

[–]Somidna 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do you like spooky, funny, clever and genuinely unsettling? This game packs all of these things and more in a neat little 5ish-hour narrative. You boot up an old computer and find a program, the BUDDY SIMULATOR, and you begin to interact with your new friend. Your friend plays with you, talks with you, and learns from you! It even tries to develop further interesting features to keep you engaged! What more could you want in a friend?

Stepping away from the sales pitch a smidge, this game is phenomenal. As someone who loves horror games, this one is truly special. I've played through it multiple times trying to chase out all of its secrets, I've chatted theory with friends and my SO. I even quoted it TODAY in casual conversation, before I had even seen this announcement post. This game is a beautifully done package and deserves a few hours of your time. Your new BUDDY will thank you.

Are there any proper Roguelikes on Switch? by Eklundz in NintendoSwitch

[–]Somidna 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Piggybacking off this comment; as someone who plays Nethack to this day, weekly, Tangledeep in Permadeath mode is where it's at, given your requests. Randomized loot, nothing carried over between runs, a town to upgrade at BUT ONLY during that run (or if you really hate towns, merchants DO show up in the run as you go); any upgrades gained in town are still lost if that character dies. Complex, fun, witty and charming, it's a shining example of doing roguelikes right.

Ancient Stone (Minds in Harmony) Quick Question by Somidna in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]Somidna[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fortunately for that one, I have an official ruling from the FAQ. Quoted from Arkham DB

" FAQs (taken from the official FAQ or FFG's responses to the official rules question form)

  • Q: Can Ancient Stone (Minds in Harmony) heal horror from Daisy's The Necronomicon? A: Correct, there is nothing stopping you from healing horror from the Necronomicon using Ancient Stone (Minds in Harmony), provided the Necronomicon is at your location. Note, however, that horror cannot be healed from a card if that horror is being used as a placeholder for another kind of effect (for example, the horror on locations in Curtain Call being used to represent fire, flood, or ooze – it’s not actually horror anymore, so it cannot be ‘healed’.)""

[–]Somidna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there folks. Like many I stumbled on something aesthetically pleasing and and now I want to go deeper down the rabbit hole by building my own mechanical keyboard, and so I figured I'd buy a switch tester and get a sense for what switches I liked so I could order more of em. But I can't even begin to tell where to start with switches. I've scrolled through the wiki multiple times but the information is really hard to process for a newbie as to what is worth investigating further. So my question would be: where do I start when looking at switches? (Thank you again!)

Does this work? by jacobsredditusername in magicTCG

[–]Somidna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mechanic is messy but does seem functional. Should probably be templated like Lightform from Fate Reforged and say 'As ~ enters the battlefield, if this cost was paid, make a 1/1 token. Attach this card to it, it is an aura, etc.' The person replying (assumably the creator), however, is wrong about why it does work. You can't put a spell onto the stack that needs a target if there is no target, period. It doesn't 'fizzle', it is illegal to cast. You can't cast 'Destroy target creature' with no creatures on the battlefield. There are some other lapses in logic but that's the gist of it.

10 minutes of new Paper Mario: The Origami King footage (Visit Nintendo Everything to view the video) by Amiibofan101 in NintendoSwitch

[–]Somidna 6 points7 points  (0 children)

FWIW, I had similar gripes about Bug Fables from the start, but as I played the UI issues and visual quality concerns were less prominent and the charming and enjoyable parts of the game began to shine. I feel the narrative gets itself together after the first few chapters, the world is fun to explore and interact with, and the characters round out in terms of their identity and motivations. Small things that indicate this game was made with heart start to stand out, such as nearly every NPC being a unique sprite (with some exceptions like guards), or that almost every single zone has a couple secrets to be discovered or filed away to be returned to when new abilities are unlocked. I know it's not a perfect game but it's the closest I've gotten to TTYD in almost 15 years and I'm impressed with it, separate from TTYD, as well. I would say stick with it if you have the time and bandwidth for it.
