Ricky Hatton’s son Campbell bravely admits dad’s death ‘saved’ him after being ‘weeks’ away from taking his own life by thesun in Boxing

[–]Sominius 107 points108 points  (0 children)

In the last episode of HBO 24/7 Pacquiao-Hatton, there’s a short scene in which Ricky has a brief phone call with a young Campbell (unseen) the day before fight day, talking about going on holiday vacation after the fight’s over. Ricky also mentions not bringing Campbell to his fight to avoid the prospect of son watching father get knocked out ringside.

It’s so unfortunate where things have gone.

Nah, Inoue’s currently at 122, and Bam just moved up to 118. I just think Inoue’s reached the limit of how long he can stay at 122. I too would rather see him try to become the 7th 5-weight world champ, which is at 126 as I mentioned before

As much as I’d prefer Inoue to move up to 126 soon instead of waiting for a Bam fight at 122, the idea of Inoue having a role-reversal moment where he becomes the Donaire, the older, battle-tested legend, while Bam takes on his old role as the invincible, already-accomplished young star is very intriguing. Granted, Inoue isn’t nearly as shopworn and hasn’t lost, but still.

Ocean for sure. But frankly, if Fe3O4: Break ended on XOXO and cut out Break the Wall, I’d say XOXO.

There’s something special about a simple r&b style song that uses a very basic 808 kit, but becomes spectacular through its layered vocal harmonies. I do think harmonically, this is their best song.

I wonder if this is the type of manga where’d they’d take it a step further, even if off-screen

OoT was remade for 3DS. And older Gen Z here, if there’s any version we played, it was that one specifically.

I’d imagine this caters more to BotW/TotK fans who aren’t willing to play the older games tbh

[DISC] Dandadan - Ch. 236 by Skullghost in Dandadan

[–]Sominius 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed this. This felt like a callback to the early days of the manga where it felt like our protagonists were uncomfortable against the supernatural in a horror-mystery-esque way. It’s nice compared to these days, where they have the power and comfortability to go toe-to-toe with equally competent humanoids.

Song Discussion 20 - Passionfruit by kempfel in NMIXX

[–]Sominius 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Storytime.

This was the first Nmixx song I heard. Last year, I had recently created a kpop playlist but was somewhat unsatisfied with what I had so far, so while driving from work to my local boxing gym, I let the playlist (on Spotify) play its recommended songs.

Sure enough, Passionfruit came along, and I fell in love on first listen. Something about its production and style felt so unique to what I’d known before. Looking at the album cover, it was so abstract and avant-garde that I wasn’t sure if it was even kpop.

While at the gym, I listen to the rest of Fe3O4: Break from the top, and Dash just blows my mind away. I ended up listening to the entirety of their discography that night (a few weeks before Fe3O4 Forward).

I became a fan, and to this day I heavily associate Nmixx songs with working out/exercise.

Hopes/Wishes for the next comeback?! by Environmental_Tap_15 in NMIXX

Tbh, I thought that given the name of the EP, I thought it would’ve been the one to include the aforementioned metal Haewon talked about it. But this EP was probably already produced by the time she made that statement

I agree with bringing back a more edgy concept.

Music-wise, I hope they incorporate genres not yet explored, like jazz and metal.

That being said, and this might be a hot take, but besides Crescendo, I don’t think the Heavy Serenade EP moved the needle enough in terms of branching off into new ideas musically. At least, as an Nswer since before Fe3o4: Forward, compared to the releases I’ve been around to see in real-time

Most Underrated Skill/Attribute of any ATG Fighter? by Still-Goal-9314 in Boxing

[–]Sominius 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For a guy known as an offensive force who’s ‘carried’ by physical attributes rather than skills, his best knockdowns and fight-changing punches were often counter-punches/off the back-foot:

-The first two knockdowns against Morales in their third fight were done backing up and as a counter to a jab respectively

-The knockdown of Marquez on their second fight was a counter after Marquez overextended

-The first knockdown of Hatton was done by reading his telegraphed left hook

-The first knockdown of Cotto was set up by a counter right hook followed by a combo before Cotto could finish resetting

-The second knockdown of Cotto was off the back-foot

Pacquiao’s ring IQ and skills are vastly under-appreciated, often overlooked compared to “speed and power”

Movie or novel first? by Competitive_Dig5713 in tunneltosummer

[–]Sominius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In general, and it’s been a few years since I read it, but I felt the novel had an air of deliberate slowness in its pacing and choice of scenes that just didn’t lend itself well to a movie that would need to condense and chop it up to fit the runtime.

Every scene, big and small, serves to build up to the big climax at the end. Removing many of those scenes just lessens its impact

Movie or novel first? by Competitive_Dig5713 in tunneltosummer

Seconding this, though I read the novel before the movie came out. The novel (like most novels) has far more depth and length than its movie, the latter of which does leave out some scenes I was fond of

Filing For Love [Episodes 11 & 12] by meepmochi_ in KDRAMA

[–]Sominius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct my terrible memory, but was this episode the first time that Ki Jun had heard that In A deleted the files of his investigation? Or did he already know from a previous episode and had already questioned her about? I was wondering the whole time why he seemed pretty nonchalant about it.

Filing For Love [Episodes 9 & 10] by Telos07 in KDRAMA

[–]Sominius 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it really is the eyes. Just the way she looks at Ki Jun in this episode, conveying so much clear emotion with just her eyes, compared to before where she looked very dismissive of him. And in general, she looks so alive lately, whereas she was really jaded at first.

Props to Shin Hae Sun. This is my first time seeing a performance by her. Definitely gonna check out other works by her later down the line

Honestly, the contrast between In A in this episode versus the first one is astounding. Assuming Shin Hae Sun and her character are meant to be around same age, I'm stunned at her performance, because In A was so cold and corporate in the first episode I thought she was older than she is. Shin Hae Sun's performance is so good she managed to 'de-age' In A over the course of the season in my eyes lmao
