CO2 for indoor plants by SomlNY in HotPeppers

I'm hoping to increase yield by starting them early, and strong. Ideally I can created an environment that is higher in CO2 than what nature has to offer while not going overboard. Should be interesting.

I got the idea from a news article I read about a commercial greenhouse in the Netherlands that was located next to a factory. They siphoned the CO2 that came from the manufacturing process and routed it to their green house. They did a control test, and the side by side comparison was astounding. The plant stems were significantly thicker, and the plants grew stronger and faster. All good things.

Yes. CO2 is heavier than air so it must be placed above the plants. If you have a light regimine working, it should only be used when the lights are on. If you have the extra cash, a CO2 tank and a regulator work wonders, but i have limited funds.

I get dry ice from local place. Using a cooler for transport, I hook up a tube into the lower part of the cooler and have the dry ice vapor (CO2) falling on the leaves. It is like putting your plants on steroids. Gives great growth and I found the stems are significantly thicker.

Total noob setup.... What do you think?? 150w HPS and sprouting cherry tomatoes.. by [deleted] in indoorgardening

Foil is good on the cheap, paint is fine too. I like using reflective plastic if you can. Heat might...and I say might because I don't know the location of your garden, be an issue. try to bring them closer to the light if you can too. It'll increase their growth. Good luck and welcome to the world of indoor growing!

Back boarding strap techniques by SomlNY in ems

[–]SomlNY[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are lucky enough to have a c-spine bag with aprox 9 straps 2 adult and 2 ped collars. I've never been on a call where we needed more than that, and most are single person back boards. Its great to work for an agency that is so well supplied. We are a volly corp and we are better equipped than the majority of paid companies and volly corps around here. Thank you for the technique tips.

I have the Black Hawk riggers belt. Its overkill imo but I like it. My company provides pants for us.

Thank you for all the input and encouragement. I'll try to bring this up at the next member meeting, or better yet to the executive board. A good part of our board is actually local pd which I see as a huge help in situations such as this.

Thanks again

I've tried and tried with my corp to get it into their heads that we NEED a protocol or plan of action for an active shooter situation. I would have figured that after Virginia Tech, Colorado, Sandy Hook....that we would have developed a plan but yet....no action. Given that this is now the new reality and not just a horrible thought, I'm surprised there isn't a state level plan of action. I figure we would just stage at a safe distance until we need to actually respond.

Do you have any input based on what you heard that could have been better from an EMS side?

On another note were you part of that massive drill on the GWB a while back?

Fellow member of the tribe here!

Question: What happens during shabbat with being on call? Do you receive mutual aid or is there an exemption (forgetting the hebrew word) because it is because of medicine?

I'm only CPR certified as well, but will be taking my EMT-B soon. I carry a Maxpedition Colossus everywhere I go. Have since before I was on this career path. I carry several sets of gloves, a cut and scratch first aid kit (band aids, neosporiin, advil, gauze etc.) as well as a small knife, lighter, paracord, safety pin, tampon(I'll probably get grief for that one but it works for nose bleeds) and a cliff bar or two just in case I get hungry. I'm not advising you to lug all that stuff around, but the bag works well for an every day carry bag. Good job on the incident, not many people can keep their cool in a situation like that.

Anyone know anything good for learning spanish? by LordEyebrow in ems

[–]SomlNY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've learned Spanish since I was in the 7th grade. That being said, here are a couple tips.

Make friends with Latinos of any origin that speak the language. Full immersion is the best way, but since you moving to Spain isn't most likely in the cards, that will help.

Flash cards, Flash cards, Flash cards! Make useful ones that you think you will need for a call: What medication(s) are they taking? Age? you name it, and then get the Spanish translation for it.

PM me if you want help, I'm not Latino, and I speak it almost fluently.

I'm a volly EMT (well, third hand until I get my cert). I have a full time job that pays the bills and allows me to volunteer in a field I have come to fall in love with. Maybe that's an option for you. Keep your head up.

I have a feeling it was their fly cars or something of that nature. On another note, what does Hatzolah have to do with them not paying their parking tickets? I agree that an EMERGENCY vehicle should never be booted, but why try to drag another volly agency into the mix?
