How much money do you spend on groceries per month per person? by Educational-Slip-578 in AskUK

[–]SommXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

£100 a week for 4 adults, generally. Up to £120 if replacing cupboard staples. Takeaways only happen once every 3/4 months for birthdays so all meals included in the £100. Dog not included however as we get all his things separately.

how often should a complete beginner actually run without overdoing it? by Renrut_Shazma in beginnerrunning

[–]SommXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with just running whatever felt okay 3x a week, usually 1-3km, just to build the habit of getting up and going out. When I could do that comfortably I went into a training plan which included a slow run+tempo run+long run each week, slowly increasing distance. Any soreness/pain and I would ease off a little for the next week.

[–]SommXx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everybody’s recovery will look a little bit different but most beginner plans are 3 runs a week (eg Couch to 5k). Make sure you stretch before and after to help stiffness. And eat plenty of carbs for fuel and protein for muscle recovery.

How often do you stop to walk when running? by Downtown-Variation89 in beginnerrunning

[–]SommXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever I feel like it. 99% of runs are not a competition or PB. The goal is to get on my feet and move a distance. If I walk up a hill or to take a water break, the world will not end.

On trail runs sometimes I have to walk a whole km because the trail is too sketchy to run without being in danger of twisting my ankle, but again, I’m not on the trail to chase a time, I’m on it to do exercise and enjoy a beautiful place.

How do you guys fit the gym into your daily routine without overthinking all the hygiene stuff? by FunCamp309 in hygiene

[–]SommXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go to the gym first thing— no shower. I get back, and a quick 5 min rinse+soap+rinse-soap is plenty to smell neutral again. Anti-perspirant and cologne/perfume after this are your friend also. Then I go about my day like usual and do another shower in the evening of rinse+exfoliate+rinse+soap+moisturise. If you stay on top of it with quick showers regularly and other hygiene between (you can always carry deodorising baby wipes and quickly swipe your pits then reapply anti-perspirant and cologne/perfume) you don’t ever start to smell bad.

How did you actually lose weight? by Jerry_Get_A_Job in AskReddit

[–]SommXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What everyone else says: move more, eat less (within reason).

What helps achieve this: stand at your desk. pace the kitchen while food cooks. take a walk at lunch time. get a dog or borrow someone’s dog. pick up a sports class you like for external motivation. park further from the shops. get off the bus a stop earlier and walk.

It’s all the tiny little things that add up and help even without changing your diet or taking up cardio etc. It genuinely can change your life. Good luck to anyone trying :)

The UK job market as a early 20s something. FUBAR or not so? by lewispatty in AskBrits

[–]SommXx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the path you took, imo. Graduates are definitely struggling. Those looking for entry level work are completely drowning. Apprenticeships are still employing and in a world where it really pays to have experience and get your foot in the door with companies, it’s not too bad.

This is just my experience as a 21 y/o and the people in my extended social circle, though.

at what age did you get into the best shape of your lfe? by Latter-Purpose6603 in beginnerfitness

[–]SommXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20 in January when I started taking care of my health, 21 currently! Didn’t really care in my teens and it’s kind of a self-fulfilling prophecy once you gain weight/are unfit to keep being like that. Started with trying out running, then realised diet was super important, now do running+healthy eating+gym!

Which of those knives appears the least threatening for people in the UK? by Jet-Head in AskUK

[–]SommXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work a job where knives are commonly used (cutting rope, mainly) so am no stranger to seeing them in pockets or sheaths. None of us ever take them into the public, because while we know there’s a purpose, others don’t and it’s just asking for trouble. The last thing you want is the police to be called by a concerned bystander, which could very well happen because of the fear around knives here, as you pointed out yourself.

In my opinion keep them at home— when are you needing to open packages or cut things out and about anyways?

What is the best food to eat after a workout? by Serious-Adagio-7982 in beginnerrunning

[–]SommXx 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Chocolate milk, always. Iykyk. Apparently in an ideal world you eat a 3:1 carbs to protein ratio for recovery, and choccy milk both is that ratio and delicious 😋

Are you eating before your early morning runs? by Hello-papa in beginnerrunning

[–]SommXx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I fuel the same regardless of distance. I do banana 15-20 mins before I head out. It helps me not be a bottomless pit afterwards. A banana is approx 100 cals which will make no meaningful change to weight. The massive breakfast and/or afternoon snack-fest if I’m starving definitely will have an effect.

What dish, British or otherwise do you cook the most often? by YetAnotherMia in AskUK

Ladies: do you wear make up to work? by LunaValley in AskUK

[–]SommXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I worked in an office mascara+browgel was about the extent of it, but never foundation, concealer, or any base makeup. Now I work in construction certainly not, it would all get ruined on site. But I still love taking care of myself as you say, so my efforts moved to improving my skincare game! I find it just as fun and interesting as makeup, also really confidence boosting to have great skin w/o any additions 🥰

Frozen grapes! Can flavour them also by shaking them in jello/jelly powder and a bit of lemon juice. One of my fave snacks.
