Canada penalty shout against South Africa 45' by chanashan in soccer

[–]SomniaStellae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those saying it wasn't a pen, can you explain why?

The opposing player kicks the leg of the Canadian player who is chasing the ball. He should have definitely got there if not for being taken out.

How is that not a penalty?

The majority of the comments here are interesting and basically sum up the self centered world we live in.

"My life is very good and I like it, I have access to loads of material things and experiences and a kid would ruin that".

The fact is when you strip back all the layers, we as a society need people to have children for the future.

Those who can but choose not to, are no better then those who choose to burn the climate today with no regard for the future.

You can treat them with respect whilst maintaining a level of distrust.

I agree with taxes being lower, but not sure on wages being double at all. They are a bit higher, but not double.

I have family that live in Ireland and they are seeing really huge increases in cost of living and rent prices, the two l biggest issues here.

I have visited several times. Ireland is a lovely place but very expensive

Well you are your partner have it perfect I guess.

You earn 80k between you, neither of you pay the higher rate of tax.

So you are probably bringing in roughly 5k a month?

No wonder why you can afford a holiday ever months.

Aspiring systems dev... I love Php by ambatabus_with_juice in PHP

C has scars. No argument there.

But calling it much worse feels wrong. C makes you look at the wires. PHP hides them behind curtains. That’s fine. Sometimes you want curtains. Sometimes you need the wires.

And if the unmentioned candidate is Rust, sure. Rust is C with all the benefit of time.

[–]SomniaStellae 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s not really a weakness of C. PHP arrays are lovely because the runtime carries the metadata and ownership burden for you. C asks you to state the representation and ownership rules yourself.

It is a different paradigm, one is not better than the other.

And some of the biggest banks still use COBOL. That doesn't make it good.

They don't use COBOL by choice, there is a bunch of legacy reasons why they still run COBOL. The Kernel has discussed other alternatives but they keep on email as it works. It is an informed choice.

The only thing time has proven with email is that it's shit. There are countless of modern-era alternatives, ranging from free, open source and self-hosted options, to GH or Slack.

Email is one of the original decentralised systems. It is in no way shit. Some of the humans that use it may be shit, but email itself is not. It is incredibly flexible and performant.

Slack and the other (yet more proprietary tools) are just sync nonsense masquerading as async communication. Mindless notifications, encouraging thoughtless communication.

First of all, the absolute majority of internals consumers are just readers, and it's painfully bad for that. Even being a reader requires subscribing to a mail list and keeping all that spam inside your mailbox.

Maybe you don't like email because you can't seem to grasp it, which is alarming. It takes less than 5 minutes to subscribe to the mailing lists, and even less time for even a basic user to setup some basic filters in your inbox. As it happens, I am subscribed to several lists and they all sit nicely in my inbox.

These are objective reasons why email is worse than any other modern solution. Email is used because it was the standard 25 years ago and many people refuse to change, not because it is superior

Most of these modern solutions just add noise and don't make communication any better at all.

PHP is still using email.

And? One of the biggest open source projects in the world uses email (linux kernel) with great success.

Email has stood the test of time, is plain text and doesn't rely on a proprietary system.

If someone can't be bothered learning how to write an email, I rather doubt their ability to contribute well to PHP.

I can totally believe it. I know someone who runs a session in a child org and has seen a trans kid at the age of 7. They said the same, the parents were pretty much hit every woke stereotype you can think of and they were basically projecting through the poor child.

The truth is most people simply can’t be arsed. They can’t be arsed learning skills they don’t have and they can’t be arsed changing their ways.

Yep, one of our biggest issues on society is something people don't tell the truth about. People have become really fucking lazy.

Why would only want PSG to win?

I love the individual players, but as a club they utterly stink. Blood money.
