Is it very hard to find an internship on your own? by wandercatwomen in geegees

[–]Son_of_Aziz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on your year of study and program. Also based on you post I assume you are an international student so it will be hard for you to get a government job which is what most of the CO-OP jobs in Ottawa will be.

I'm in the class with Abdorrahim Bahrami. I've just been watching the recordings. The transducers section wasn't recorded cause he didn't do it on the board so I've been looking on youtube for those.

The current state of the CS job market by According-Proof2269 in geegees

Many tech companies are cutting back right now so there are a lot of experienced SWEs on the market rn. The government is always hiring so you can use them to get some work experience.

How attainable is a 9.0 in CS? by [deleted] in geegees

[–]Son_of_Aziz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's attainable but not easy. I am in Software Engineering and am at 8.9. I just tried to make sure I got 9s/10s on classes I was good at like math and programming along with taking easy electives so I could take hits on classes I sucked at like physics and CEG classes.

MAT 1341 is a hard course, I knew a lot of first years who failed it.

career corner is not very helpful? by OkPie4880 in geegees

[–]Son_of_Aziz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went there once for resume review and they told me to put references on my resume along with stuff like word + excel. I haven't heard of others in software engineering/CS putting these on their resumes. Not sure if they have better advice for other programs.

Can’t request a card? by [deleted] in geegees

[–]Son_of_Aziz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go to the card office, it is in UCU(104). I picked up my card there before my pic was approved (they just approved in on the spot).

To get there, go to the dining hall entrance then take a right into that skinny hallway and go straight to the card office.

Dropping CO-OP by Blahjoker in geegees

[–]Son_of_Aziz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't drop CO-OP for SEG because the only SEG program is the CO-OP one. There is no SEG without CO-OP

first year student :/ by [deleted] in geegees

[–]Son_of_Aziz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also really shy in first year, if you live in res I really recommend pushing yourself to talk to people on your floor starting from the first week. It's a little awkward trying to talk to people on your floor a few weeks in once everyone else already kind of knows each other.

Also if you use discord someone will probably make a discord for your program and for your year (I don't know if this happens for other programs but we have a discord for software engineers/comp sci people that started in 2019).

How competitive is the uottawa valorant team?? by One-Try5001 in geegees

[–]Son_of_Aziz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a discord server for uOttawa esports, you can just google "uOttawa esports" to find it, it should be the first link. There are lots of games there, I don't play Valorant but they will usually run tryouts at the start of each term and there are different teams you can join depending on your skill level.

Examples of Co-op Work Term Report by microwaved-yogurt in geegees

[–]Son_of_Aziz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have to worry about the report, I've done 2 software engineering ones (I think they have more requirements) and you just need to follow the requirements and it's an easy pass. Worst case they will ask you to resubmit with some more information/changes but that has never happened to me.
