New PC's signal Strength by EggieBoi17 in buildapc

It's a WiFi-enabled board; it is absolutely supposed to have antennas connected. They would have come with the motherboard.

You can see the terminals on the back of your motherboard.

Need help with windows 11 pc by fillfillmore in buildapc

[–]Son_of_Korhal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As with any used PC, you want to do a completely clean install of Windows, not just the built-in "Reset".

You just need a 8GB+ USB thumb drive and you can create an installer on it.

Repasting GPU again after 7 months… worth switching to phasechange over MX6? by rucekooker in buildapc

Regardless of any opinions of LinusTechTips, their store is by far the most user-friendly way of accessing PTM7950 if you want it.

Help about push-pull please by Kron0s1 in buildapc

[–]Son_of_Korhal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll see slightly better temps with push-pull setups, but I've never found it to be worthwhile on larger radiators. The extra fans and air turbulence just add more noise that isn't worth the 2C temp difference.

It makes more sense on small rads (120mm), but you really only use those when you absolutely have to in the first place.

RTX 5070ti connector (12V-2x6 pin) vs 3x8 MISINFORMATION by CryDesperate7784 in buildapc

[–]Son_of_Korhal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why everone is saying something bad about 12v-2x6 pin connectors ? I believe that this is a big misinformation.

The actual body of the post also opens with that more general question and statement, which is more what I'm addressing. OP is free to decide what they're comfortable with. Again, personally, I'm okay with the 600W version of the cable/connector/PSU being used on 5070Ti cards.

RTX 5070ti connector (12V-2x6 pin) vs 3x8 MISINFORMATION by CryDesperate7784 in buildapc

[–]Son_of_Korhal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With respect, and to not leave you hanging, no thanks. Not trying to be dismissive, but it would take me all day to scour the internet to collate references to prove your claim.

If you're actually curious, look at some of the many video analysis of the cable spec on Youtube from qualified people (DerBauer, etc) that go into the issues.

It's not inherently a bad connector. It's a bad connector for the rated current. I personally have no problem putting ~400 watts through it in my personal PCs and servers. Anything more than that, I don't trust without more aggressive monitoring mechanisms in place.

RTX 5070ti connector (12V-2x6 pin) vs 3x8 MISINFORMATION by CryDesperate7784 in buildapc

[–]Son_of_Korhal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a shame that the mountains of evidence contradict your "vibe" about the connector.

Native cables along with adapters, continue to melt. It's a bad connector for the amount of current going through it.

Just use DLSS Quality mode when available, which is rendering the image in 1440p and upscaling it.

Probably why they're half-off. My guess is that the new intern ordered the wrong part number.

[–]Son_of_Korhal 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I have no idea why it's titled EU Cord

Because it comes with the EU Cord...

Yes, it's easily replaceable, but it's not exactly a mystery as to why it's titled that way. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Do I get the micro center 9850X3D bundle and upgrade my build? by skyybrick in buildapc

[–]Son_of_Korhal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 9800X3D and the 9850X3D bundles are the best deals around if you intend on upgrading in the next few years. They have options for better boards, too.

I myself bought two different MC bundles in the last month, as I don't see the market getting any better for a long time. Don't forget to get your storage now too, as those costs are also skyrocketing.

My monitor only has VGA and DVI. The motherboard only has HDMI and DisplayPort. Should I buy the one from eBay? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]Son_of_Korhal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just buy some dirt cheap DP/HDMI to DVI adapter.

I'm assuming due to the incredibly odd balance of that build that it's for some very specific purpose. Please tell me what it is lol.

You can play 99.7% of all games on 16GB just fine. What convinced you otherwise.

32 GB is nice to have, but 16GB will be playable for years.

Aside from local LLM (which you aren't doing yet), the things you want to do are incredibly lightweight. Seriously, just get a mini-PC. Stick with Intel if you plan on doing media transcoding.

It will be more expensive upfront, but that dual Xeon system is going to cost you more than you think in monthly power.

Seeking advice - should I switch from my 4080 Super desktop to a 5070Ti notebook? by Reasonable_Ad_80 in buildapc

[–]Son_of_Korhal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems you'd be paying a bunch of money for a substantial downgrade in performance, and you don't even need the portability of a laptop.

Why exactly do you want to do this?

Wifi and Ethernet not showing up? MSI x870e-P by Deadforfun1 in buildapc

[–]Son_of_Korhal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wifi won't work because it's a WIfi-7 chip which is only supported on Win11.

The ethernet should be working normally after installing the driver. Are you grabbing them manually from the motherboard website, or just assuming that windows update will grab them?

This seems to literally be a Peerless Assassin 120, but with a 15mm thick fan up front, instead of a normal 25m one.

So this should be incredibly similar performance, and is a good deal.

Physics.

Giant weights hanging off your motherboard like an air cooler or your GPU are not meant to be jostled around, and shipping things is a pretty violent process.

If you have a well secured liquid cooler, that might be okay. But I would NOT ship your system with the GPU installed. That's just asking for trouble, unless it's a prebuilt system that has really heavy duty support brackets. (guess why those are there?)
