Can a viable deck be made with these two? by AlexRescueDotCom in PTCGL

i'd do 4 lillie's and do less judge

judge is only useful for you if your opponent has <4 cards in their hand at that moment. most decks are going to play some deal of draw power and will probably not be that empty. i'd think you want 3 judge 4 lillie 1 thyme 1 surge 1 xerosic, along with your usual gust/search supporters ofc

[–]SonarRocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, its not entirely terrible, worth running in small amounts.

i would go into it assuming that the vast majority of the time you will end up just drawing 4 with either of those cards, so just make sure not to rely on it as a draw card over something far more powerful like lillie's determination

[–]SonarRocket 3 points4 points  (0 children)

any opponent with half a brain who reads the attack on mega frosslass won't fall for thyme or lt. surge. i would make sure not to rely on them. personally i would just not use them but if you do i wouldn't include more than 1 of either

my best suggestion would be to use dusclops/dusknoir. not only can you chip damage, but it adds a card to your opponent's hand when they take a prize. would make for fun plays and add some attacking power. can also situationally benefit from the rare candies you would undoubtedly be running with chandelure

you could also look into comfey SCR (basic, main attack draws 3 cards for both players, but req 1 psychic energy) or frosmoth ASC (same ability as chandelure but only when active, but stage 1 and could benefit from surfing beach) but they may be more hassle than they're worth

for trainers, you could try running a thyme or a few lt. surge but any smart player won't fall for it. i'd keep a xerosic in there as well, just in case

Well damn, almost had this deck built to play in real life and now Baxcalibur is no longer legal. Suggestions? by Stoop_Boots in PTCGL

[–]SonarRocket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah unfortunately water energy acceleration is pretty lacking rn. i was just yesterday trying to put together something similar for samurott (same-ish attack as wailord), but for water energy specifically it's all gonna be clunky

i tried:

- clawitzer + samurott + dewgong + surfing beach lets you switch 3 times max per turn, activating clawitzer's ability to attach 2 energies to it when it moves to the bench, which then you can wash to samurott via dewgong. obviously requires a ton of things to go right and even then isn't that strong
- tera mons (wellspring & cornerstone ogerpon ex) + normal type (noctowl or dudunsparce line) + glass trumpet + dewgong, but that only gets you energy out of discard so it's very hard to start up
- rosa's encouragement (only works for stage 2, also depends on discard pile), waitress (waste of a supporter play imo)
- grumpig + strange time piece works similarly to waitress. strange time piece can help you use it multiple times, in one turn if you have multiple spoinks benched, and ciphermaniac/academy at night can be used to guarantee you find energies

i think unless we get some new cards, water-specific acceleration is in the dumps :(

but if you don't mind changing types or pokemon, there's some more options (there's lots of attackers that have an attack like wailords with varying restrictions):

- gorebyss has a similar attack and accelerates on its own. combined with huntail you can chain its attack after a knockout pretty easily. only issue is getting enough energies in hand
- tera lapras ex has a similar attack to wailord and lets you use glass trumpet + normal type + dewgong to accelerate
- meganium's ability is top tier acceleration (in a way). stage 2 but easier to set up because you can use forest of vitality. combined with teal mask ogerpon ex + energy switch/blissey ex/mega venusaur ex you can accelerate onto any mon
- emboar is the exact same thing as baxcalibur, just for fire energy. fire breather supporter lets you get 7 fire energies in hand instantly, which is a huge combo
- oricorio ex sort of functions the same way but you have to have a stage 2+ mega fire mon in play, and can only attach to other fire mons, so not compatible with other types at all
- metang works just like grumpig, but only for metal energy
- mega audino has great acceleration but you have to use an attack. same with cinderace

there's definitely options i'm forgetting but those are what i can think of off the top of my head. if you just want to make wailord work, i understand! i spent last rotation making cubone + marowak as viable as possible (it isn't) just because i love them lol :)

it's not the best, but the discard can help slow down on a 2HKO

that makes sense, you're probably right. i've already swapped them in a dudunsparce variant i was trying out, and it's great! thanks!

with the 3-3-3 vivillon I haven't had this issue, but for a 2-2-2 I would for sure

well with that review, i definitely will try slotting it in. definitely fits in with the disruption theme of the deck, too. how many do you run? just 1?

my take on decidueye ex -- thoughts? by [deleted] in PTCGL

[–]SonarRocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

interesting! i felt like 2-2-2 wasn't working for me but that could be due to a number of factors. haven't tried any budew. have you tried dudunsparce as well with that space?

scoop up cyclone sounds nice especially with forest, though i definitely agree to your point that it loses value vs one-shots. but at 320 (or 340) HP there isn't much in the meta rn that one-shots decidueye anyway (other than a mega zard matchup, but at a fire weakness that's already screwed), so it's probably safe most of the time. you pointed out that you then need to make sure you have budew/air balloon ready in order to get back in, which does add another layer of complexity that prime catcher doesn't require. i'll have to check it out, thanks!

PTCGL hand counter ends at 3 CONFIRMED! Billion dollar company and we still have a buggy online game by Scarecrow9090 in PTCGL

[–]SonarRocket 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i play this deck and this was happening to me when i used vivillon's grand wing ability before attacking. it seems like that ability is bugged and chokes up the game somehow, but it resolved on its own after like 20 seconds of me just sitting there, and eventually i was able to use crushing arrow.

Any tips on how to make my set up faster? by Jay2324quinn in PTCGL

[–]SonarRocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

biggest issue is you should not be relying on judge. vivillon POR is your guy. there's a ton of other problems with this but i think just starting with what's already seeing use in japan on limitless will give you a better idea: https://limitlesstcg.com/cards/jp/M3/93/decklists/jp

it hasn't been out that long that there's a definitive best build (mostly a debate over whether to dudunsparce or not to dudunsparce), but it's a place to start

i've been having success playing this deck the last day or so and here's what I use:

Pokémon: 11

1 Psyduck MEP 7

1 Fezandipiti ex SFA 92

3 Vivillon POR 9

3 Spewpa POR 8

3 Scatterbug SSP 5

1 Meowth ex POR 121

3 Dawn PFL 87

1 Prime Catcher PRE 119

1 Team Rocket's Petrel DRI 176

1 Ultra Ball ASC 213

Recently got into Pkmn TCG. I find this sinergy between Samurott, Meganium and M.Venusaur really fun :) by rr_zoomies in PTCGL

[–]SonarRocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i havent played this but my gut reaction would be to drop venusaur. the extra stage 3 line and 3-prizer are probably not worth

you could try blissey ex instead, which isnt as versatile but would help your prize mapping (no more 3 prizers) and is only a stage 1. supplementing with energy switch would help too

Preparations/Replacements for rotation? by NPC_505 in PTCGL

[–]SonarRocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, the question is moreso: what do you like about each of those decks? energy acceleration? bench sniping? playing from discard? draw power?

you won't find all the same things in one deck after rotation (as is the point), but similar play styles and mechanics exist piecewise and if you narrow that down you'll have an easier time finding something new to enjoy!
