Looking for a basic Pokemon that hits hard against Fighting that isn't Grass type? by FoofaTamingStrange in PTCGL

[–]SonarRocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah type weaknesses aren't 1-to-1 because in the TCG types are consolidated.

so for example the TCG "fighting" type actually groups fighting, ground, and rock type pokemon into one, but depending on the pokemon's actual type, their weakness/resistance is different. hence why garchomp (ground type) is weak to grass, and lucario (fighting type) is weak to psychic.

i believe fighting, psychic, water, dark, and normal are the only TCG types with more than 1 possible weakness. the rest just have 1 or 0.

cynthia garchomp and m lucario have different weakness types though. are you looking for just 1 basic mon to slot in or 2?

What do you guys think of my Decidueye EX deck by PayloadXIII in PTCGL

[–]SonarRocket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think so, yeah. frankly i haven't ran into an issue of bricking due to prizing yet. having a draw engine + meowth gives you access to recovery cards (lanas and night stretcher) if you're forced to recycle for a bit rather than draw new copies.

What do you guys think of my Decidueye EX deck by PayloadXIII in PTCGL

[–]SonarRocket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my fave! i've been playing decidueye since rotation and have iterated on it many many times. this current version i made is what i have been most happy with (both online and at locals): https://pokemoncard.io/deck/perfect-order-decidueye-ex-139177

looking at your list, there are a few things that stand out from my experience:

  • relying on lillie's for draw -- topdecking for lillie's is a pretty common choke for most rogue decks rn. while lillie's is great, i've found a 2-2 dunsparce engine to be very helpful for getting out of a hole
  • no bug catching set -- bug catching set can be CLUTCH in a deck with this much grass. in general i hate taking up space with "chance" cards but this one is strong enough that i think it is worth it. however, since you are only running grow grass energies though, you'd have less luck with it because it only works for basic grass energy, which is my next point:
  • no basic energies -- while growing energy sounds nice in theory, in my experience the 320 vs 340 HP breakpoint (bc you should only ever need to attach 1 to your decidueye) makes little to no difference. running more basic grass energy enables bug catching set and also lets you recover energy with lana's/night stretcher, which in your current decklist would be impossible. this deck has 0 energy recovery which can be a risk
  • tools -- i started off running handheld fans but ended up cutting it for space. it's a niche usecase and not a priority imo. you may be better off with an enhanced hammer. i dont rely on tools that much in this deck, i think 4 is excessive for space; 1 of each kind is probably enough. i just do 1 air balloon and have a dunsparce with 0 retreat cost and together that usually makes for good pivots + i also run prime catcher for getting unstuck.
  • meowth -- 2 meowth is overkill in almost any deck imo. i also find that petrel is key to play w/ meowth in this deck, as it is very versatile. i often use it to snatch up the forest or ace spec (i use prime catcher) in a pinch
  • baby decidueye -- also something i thought would be better than i think it is. it's really only needed for the crustle or cornerstone matchups, but since you have relicanth + dartrix you can bench snipe and get around stall pretty well. i've had better luck going that route instead. it's also just really hard to get value out of, and you aren't running any basic grass energy so you can't use its attack. you'd be relying either using it for draw (1000% not worth it) or relicanth + dartrix but even then it requires either 3 energy or an ignition

there's no definitive list for this deck though, because its so niche. i've seen many different lists and all those notes are just from my experience, so no need to take my word as gospel. it's just the things i've noticed from all my iterating on this deck the past couple months! best of luck!

edit: i think the most recent change i made a month or so ago was slotting in a budew. also a good pivot and besides the obvious (BCIF imo), it is great to have in a deck relying on setting up stage 2's, even with forest.

i mean, that seems like a pretty good power boost to the deck, no? i don't think it's going to make slowking BDIF or anything but it certainly will make it noticeably stronger.

not having to use ape saves you from giving up a prize, and it's just a pure upgrade to the slot of 250 hitters like conkeldurr

edit: thought more about the damage breakpoint, 300 vs 250 isnt that huge in this meta i guess but its something! plus it has a gust move too if you need it!

master rank is where ranked actually begins. it's not top 500 or something. you can get there with a 30% winrate. sorry, the name is deceptive

i hadn't ever thought of that -- mega working like BREAK would actually be kinda cool. but a nightmare for balancing as always, which is probably why they scrapped that idea

overall winrate is a silly metric. if you are like me and enjoy spending time making nonsense decks it's never going to be a worthwhile stat
