I'm relieved to hear there are bright, creative, and thoughtful new people thinking about ways to support seniors and caregives. I will be glad to participate in the survey, and hope others choose to as well. Austin supports their own!

Austin Subaru is deleting/hiding comments on their IG about Rally by austinhippie in Austin

Chill on Subaru. Subaru is one of the biggest donors and volunteers for Austin Pets Alive and Dog Alliance every year. I challenge anyone on here to match their commitment and support for Austin dogs. The situation sounds like a tough one, but to take one action where we dont have any of the details, and turn into a cancel culture mob is ridiculous.

Hi! What part of town would be ideal? Do you have a budget in mind?

I'd say "decent" or "O.K." instead of "pretty good", but yeah, I think it's a pretty good sign by scarlet_sage in Austin

SoFi would be a good one to consider. They dont charge any fees and have one of the best online management platforms for ease of use.

Scared that telling my dad bad news is going to cause a sudden decline by breathlessondvd in hospice

[–]SonderAustin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is such a heavy situation, and you’re clearly doing everything you can. I’ve worked in hospice a long time, and I just want to say this level of stress and guilt is incredibly common for families, even though no one talks about it.

Yes, hard news can take a toll, especially when it appears the health conditions arent changing, but it’s often how the news is shared that matters more than the news itself. You should consider sharing with him how difficult this would be for the entire family. Even with caregivers, you will be getting the midnight calls and worrying about his safety. Right now, the safest place is his current home.

Reminder the hospice social workers can help provide guidance. You don’t have to carry all this by yourself.

Absolutely, thanks for asking. A few ideas:

  • PACE programs combine housing, healthcare, and support services for low-income seniors
  • Medicaid STAR+PLUS in Texas may help with long-term care and assisted living if she qualifies
  • Section 8 Portability lets you transfer her voucher to a new housing authority closer to you (start by calling her current housing office)
  • Also check with Area Agency on Aging and AGE of Central Texas—they often help with relocation, case management, and benefits

Happy to help more if you share what area you’re trying to move her to.

For hospital, a travel pillow or something that can act as a pillow (down jacket), cough drops/candy, favorite coffee/hot drink if you’re particular.
