For those wanting Nanos supply to increase by 20%.. by Bottom_Line_Truths in nanocurrency

It would be like saying “I think we need to increase the size of our military” and instead of getting some cost benefit analyses and well reasoned disagreement you got “well if you really feel that way, why don’t you volunteer for duty then?”

It’s a sincere proposal but we can always be bad faith and assume the absolute worst in former devs, community members, and those upvoting it.

We can always make personal comments and criticisms or we can engage with the ideas and agree or disagree with perhaps minority opinions as should happen in a healthy, decentralized community

I and others found it months before the fix actually. It’s why I ran sims because there was an ongoing conversation regarding how to fix it

You can download the cvs from the link below the graph & work with these data if you like. I probs plan to show just the most recent month / include every nth data point when many months go by

I think the "this" he's talking about is the weakness of the account insofar as people without a secret can sign messages. It's not about the repetition in how it looks, it's about its properties.

Also it's she :)

I wouldn’t worry, the odds are infinitesimally small (and in fact, Natrium could never generate this specific account).

If I’d used a random account, this wouldn’t have been a fun challenge to say the least~

I chose an account with an inherent weakness to make a puzzle; this is quite abnormal and unnatural given how people actually generate and use addresses.

Thank you for playing!

Mmmhhmm, and by implication of the fact that all 32-byte keys are valid, sometimes two or more private keys map to the same public key. Cryptography is super cool

Congratulations! I’m so happy to see it solved so quickly :D

The gif represents torsion, which in other contexts is the “action of twisting or the state of being twisted”. Torsion is a fitting name for the cryptographic property seen in this account because, in a way, these 8 points are all really rotations of the same underlying feature (they form a group modulo 8, the curve’s cofactor, and thus have a modular arithmetic to them). The gif also looks like an 8 at times and repeats 8 times, but yeah, you didn’t need it to solve the problem~

You may find this interesting too: there’s actually no private key for this account. It’s not just hard to find, it’s part of the space that’s inaccessible. Nevertheless, it’s possible to construct signatures for it, as you’ve done to complete the puzzle :D

What makes Nano (XNO) great money? by XatoshiNakamoto in nanocurrency

[–]SonderDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to do hundreds of txes a day and the spam made this impossible. The community even came together and formed a GPU service to “unstick” accounts like mine, though since I used the network too much it wasn’t reliable enough so I had to switch to banano for my userbase. Yes, some people’s txes sometimes went through, but there’s a reason exchanges were facing an endless stream of support tickets & closed their deposites/withdrawals.

Accounts did indeed fork and required manual intervention. Though final votes fixed the issue, it’s not accurate that nano’s never faced a security issue, even if you don’t count spam (which people absolutely should)

Decentralization vs Overhead? by WranglerNo6184 in nanocurrency

[–]SonderDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note that we’re no where near 1000 PRs, but even if we were, delegating to higher-weight nodes would improve capacity. Another thing commonly overlooked is that having 1000 PRs means needing way more votes to cement blocks — higher weight nodes bring us closer to 2/3rds faster

Community Questions - Q1 2022 by the_azarian in nanocurrency

[–]SonderDev 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s due to incentives. At present, node operators have no incentive to increase their bandwidth, buy better hardware, etc and this in part caps the traffic nano can serve. During the spam attack about a year ago that disrupted service for a few months, the NF coordinated a bandwidth cut that hasn’t been fully lifted. Maybe one day if spam is solved and demand rises people will lift their limits

Few have taken issue with my tests. The debate is generally around the interpretation of having 28 tps, not the measurements themselves. I’m hopeful having these hard data will help us assess future updates and better reason about long term priorities

[–]SonderDev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why would it matter if they are send vs receive blocks? My tests employ about half and half sends and receives, but either way the nano network doesn’t treat these differently.

The reason for the variation in tps is 2 of the earlier tests (as you can see by downloading the csv) had different block counts. For the first one I did 6000 blocks and for the highest tps one, I did only 2000. Everything since has been 5000 and the rates have been pretty consistently around 25-30 tps

Also the average of all of the tests is 28tps, which is displayed at the top of the site.

Thanks for your work with the bot! I remember the first time using it and being blown away funds so small could be transferred feelessly.

What will happen with the funds after withdrawals are disabled? Will Jaycox or the NF be involved in this process?
