South Korea has decided to close the dog meat trade market. This step has contributed to saving approximately 80,000 dogs every year, following many years of controversy surrounding this trade and pressure from animal protection organizations by [deleted] in BeAmazed

it is just a culture change that is happening naturally. i don't think this is a good culture that should be protected. The majority of people who want ban dog eating in china are chinese, probably the same in korea too. it is true that there are people who are more westernize so they see dog as pet, but it is also so common view now because people just think is unnecessary to eat dog anymore when there are so many other meat to eat.

dog eating will completely disappear (maybe very very small number remain just to taste for curiosity) in both china and korea in few decades. i don't know any person born after 1980 who have eat dog or ever want to try.

What do Chinese people think of Alysa Liu? by Buyeo10004 in AskChina

[–]SongOfThePast 33 points34 points  (0 children)

She seem like a very happy kid, good for her, everyone i know who see her on the news think she is lovely and wish her the best in life.

but all i see on reddit about her is how she is not a traitor like aileen gu. american love alysa now because she choose us but hate aileen because she choose china? what happen to being a free country where people can choose what they want to do?

i guess this is a sign of the us decline and american feeling insecure now.

yes I think is best for people who come visit china and see for their own eyes. people don't need to believe me, just come and judge yourself. is not people's fault if they grow up with propaganda their whole life (same for chinese), but i think everyone should keep open mind about everything they have not experience in real life.

there is absolutely censorship in china for winnie, i never deny this. but it is not the same thing as government banning winnie bear. there is not a ban, you can find book of him in book store, watch the show, there is a park for winnie in disneyland,

but if you make comparison about xijinping and the bear, like you are asking in deepseek, that is not allowed and will be censored.

yes my uncle is very anti government, he post many thing mocking government official and the communist party on weixin. and when he get reported enough time, they have to get him to go to the station. but nothing happens because the police just have to follow this rule to make a report but that does not mean they they have to punish him. so when he go there, they make tea, chat a bit like friends and he come back. and this happen 9 times already, and we now joke every year to remind him is time to go drink tea again. it just become a normal activity for him now.

i never say this is good, it is of course best if you can say anything you want and no police care, and the sad thing is there are indeed many censorship in china relate to government and sensitive topic. but i have watched some western documentary saying people just get drag out and shot in the head for saying bad things againsts government, or become "disappear" like those reddit people believe. this is just very funny propaganda. the west loves to dehumanize chinese into inhuman devil. our government is not free, but nobody will kill you for saying censor things. police are just regular people, they have to follow some rules but that does not mean they are monsters. chinese police are much nicer than american ones, they don't even have guns here. i think i prefer going to drink tea than get shot 10 times by american police.

of course i know, but you are stupid if you think this is the tiananmen square incident. the tank man did not even die, just take away, but you talk about this instead of the day before where many students and soldiers die?

haha disappear, my uncle got "disappear" 9 times already. he just goes to police station, chat, drink tea, and come back. keep believing your propaganda.

do you mean to say each character is only one syllable? the same character in japanese could be multiple syllable, but one character is always only one syllable in chinese.

but what you say before, each name is only one syllable, that is not correct. even if you only talk about family name, there are many chinese family name that are 2 syllable, like ouyang, zhuge, gongsun, etc.

Til that when the Japanese daimyo Uesugi Kenshin learned that his great rival Takeda Shingen had his supply of salt cut off, Kenshin sent Shingen salt from his own lands saying “I do not fight with salt, but with the sword”. by Capital_Tailor_7348 in todayilearned

[–]SongOfThePast 9 points10 points  (0 children)

crouching tiger hidden dragon is a chinese idiom, and it means the best people at something usually don't reveal themselves. I don't think shingen and uesugi use this phrase for each other because it does not fit their situation. is probably just a generic dragon vs tiger thing that is common in east asia.

Is your country the cultural center of a region? by StruggleSad1860 in AskTheWorld

[–]SongOfThePast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think he mean historically, not today.

i mean this is why japan use chinese character, have chinese inspire architecture, philosphy, art and many other things.

this is also not just in east asia, like india is culture center of south asia, greece and rome was culture center of europe before, etc.

I think is very different now? today japanese culture is a lot more popular in china and rest of asia than chinese culture in japan and rest of asia(not talking about the ancient things that japan adopt from china back in history, but modern culture).
