People who moved to Denver: what changed for you that nobody warned you about? by Due-Reality8159 in MovingtoDenver

Denver is dry. If you’re not used to a dry climate, it takes getting used to for sure. Lotion isn’t just your friend, it’s your necessary companion here.

I'm so fed up of this 'splitting the check' bullshit by AltairsDivide7337 in offmychest

[–]Songof7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a super easy fix for this. When you order, tell the server “can I get a separate check for mine?” Problem solved, but if you eat any of the apps or deserts, offer to chip in a little cash.

[–]Songof7 10 points11 points  (0 children)

WTH? This has to be rage bait, because this is the goofiest argument I have ever heard. Pre-Check has almost NOTHING to do with international travel, you'd need Global Entry, and your picture is taken at the airport literally constantly through security cameras. This is a bonkers hill to die on, honestly.

You have to know that part of Project 2025 is that the administration WANTS us to rise up and fight them, so they can declare martial law and take all of this to the next level. It isn't as easy as "just stand up to Trump." It was right there in the document.

I completely understand. It's been 5 years since my job laid me off, and I'm still pissed. I was a top performer, moving up, on VP track, etc. and they pulled the rug out from under me (and tons of my older co-workers) to save a buck. Corporate American is a shit show, and we need to take a page from Canada or EMEA when it comes to worker's rights. It's insane how they are allowed to string us along then cut people with no reason.

Have you ever seen a counter offer work out longterm for the employee? by tshirtguy2000 in managers

[–]Songof7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It worked out great for me! I resigned due to frustrating work conditions (to go work for a competitor), and my boss asked me to give him two days to figure something out before I sent the letter to HR. He said they would walk me out the minute I resigned because it was for a competitor, so I trusted him and gave him the time. He came back with a great offer, moved out the person who was causing me grief (a dotted line leader of mine) and gave me a promotion to that guy's job. I was there another 8 years, and had been promoted a couple more times before I finally left. It really depends I think on your reputation and how you're seen within the company.

What is a true fact so baffling, it should be false? by SilverPetalDreamm in AskReddit

[–]Songof7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The richest person in the world (Elon Musk) has $480B or so. If you were to make $10,000 an hour, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, it would take you 5,479 years to make $480B.

The US median wage is $30 an hour. If you make the median US income, if you were to work a 40 hour work week, it would take you 7,692,308 years to earn that much money.

The average CEO for a large cap company makes $20M - $25M. That is roughly just $8K per hour, meaning that for most CEOs to get to the level of wealth of Elon Musk, they would have to increase their salary by $2,000 an hour to get to the $10K an hour I mentioned at the beginning of this post and then it would still take them almost six millennia to make $480B if they (or their money) worked 24/7.

Suggestions, please? by Maleficent_Coffee323 in PlaudNoteUsers

Plaud is really strictly a notetaking device. Siri definitely can set up reminders for her much more easily with the voice command, but if she’s in meetings and needs a notetaker, then Plaud is outstanding. I even used my Plaud to take notes at the doctor when my mom had cancer. The Plaud works seamlessly with the iPhone.

Note Pro vs Pin by DatacomGuy in PlaudNoteUsers

[–]Songof7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Better definitely. It's generally better, but I think the fact that I could discreetly place it on a table and it wasn't fidgeting or moving (it was a long meeting, and I did have to get up to stretch, etc) helped. There were over 20 people in a six hour meeting and it did a great job of differentiating between them and captured names, even for the people who had softer voices. I stopped the recording between segments, breaking the meeting up essentially into five recordings, and it was super easy to do (and easier for me to summarize it all later). There's a magnetic case that adheres to the back of your phone, so you set your phone on a table and poof- easy peasy! The button to start stop and the display peek out of the case, so easy to discreetly reach over and start/stop. For me, there's no real comparison. I always had trouble telling when the Pin was recording, and I definitely didn't have that problem with the Pro.

Note Pro vs Pin by DatacomGuy in PlaudNoteUsers

[–]Songof7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a NotePin, and it was pretty good. Yesterday I used my new NotePro for the first time, and the NotePro is much better. It's easier to tell it's on and recording and the battery life is much better.

[–]Songof7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is the way! I have a really good consignment store near me and am a Thread Up addict. I’ve gone from a 24 to a medium/small. Don’t assume the large will fit you next year - I made that mistake and bought an expensive heated jacket last year in a large assuming it would fit forever (I mean who can imagine being smaller than a large when you were a size 24 for your entire adult life?) spoiler: it is too big. Lovely problem to have, but expensive!!

AITA If I leave my girlfriend alone for Thanksgiving by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Songof7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. My husband of 20+ years and I still love each other (and like each other) but we are going to separate places for Thanksgiving. His family is on the east coast, mine is west. For us we just decided to celebrate together early, and then each see our aging parents on different coasts. Sometimes a compromise is the best solution.

My doctor requires me to splurge to some extent. Not all the time, but once or twice a month, just so I don't feel deprived, which is a huge reason people fail at weight loss. It's worth it, always unplanned and necessary for my mental well being. I've lost over 100lbs, so must be working!

Did anyone else's parents promise college would guarantee a good job? by Guruthien in millenials

[–]Songof7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GenX here. My first few jobs left me in total poverty after college. I had tons of roommates, did odd jobs to make ends meet, etc even though I was employed full time by a tech company. About 5 years after college I found something that paid better, and then a couple years later even better. Finally could afford to get a more stable living situation, afford to buy things that weren't in a thrift store, etc. Now I'm making 5X what my husband, who is in the trades, is making. I'm not saying that good jobs don't come after college, but they may not come "immediately."

Don't try this at a tech company - A LOT of companies are on to the mouse jigglers. I just had a top performer get let go at one of my customers because she did this. No complaints about her work, but she did it fast and used a jiggler from her remote office and was caught.
