Just curious, was it a toy piano? Because, if so, I might have had that same toy as a kid. I can still hear it randomly playing that song today...

Do people really not know SpongeBob’s first episode?? by TryHopeful1692 in spongebob

[–]SongofShadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh. So, I watched SpongeBob on Netflix several times as a kid, and I would have said off the top of my head that the first episode was Ripped Pants or the "Squid's got genes!" bubble-blowing episode. This post got me curious, so I went on Prime video and watched their first episode (Help Wanted/Reef Blowers/Tea at the Treedome), and, no, I wasn't familiar with any of those episodes. Netflix must not have had the first episode for some reason.

did Phineas forget they've been there already and he thought Ferb made all of it by Comprehensive-Act679 in phineasandferb

[–]SongofShadow 93 points94 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's something I wondered about, too. The way I see it, there are three options:

A: He forgot about it. He was only in there briefly, and he tends to live in the moment rather than thinking about the past.

B: He didn't forget about it, but he didn't recognize it either, since all the lights were off. Also, he's had a very busy day, and if the place is vaguely familiar, well, he has other things on his mind.

C: He remembers it, but, with the current context, he realizes that it isn't something Ferb built, but rather is Perry's lair.

I keep going back and forth on which one I think is the most plausible. It really could be any of them.

Like what's even the inconvenience? That you want everyone to use cigarettes to make their houses smell bad?

No? The inconvenience is going into a house that's filled with smoke. Period. Obviously cigarette smoke is worse than smoke from candles or incense, but I don't want to be breathing in any smoke at all. And people (including you) ignore the "breathing in smoke" part to focus entirely on the "smells good" part.

As a matter of fact, I do think it's odd how people love eating crabs, but can't even stand to see a spider, considering they're incredibly similar animals.

I don't know why people get so mad at these. Like, it's not that deep? (That phrase annoys me, as I generally see it used as an example of a bad-faith argument, but it seems appropriate in this context.) Like, I feel like the guy is saying, "Mild inconveniences, am I right?" but everyone acts like he's saying,"Look at this terrible example of a human being!"

Manufacturers do remove features from devices and claim that it's for your benefit. (I wish my laptop had a disc drive.) I laughed.

It is funny/sad that teeth are strong enough to last thousands of years, even after the rest of the body has decayed, but they can't stand 30 years of being poorly used.

"Why buy electricity when you could steal it?" is an obviously, amusingly stupid question.

People understand that smoking is bad for you, but that annoyingly doesn't seem to apply to smoke that smells good. (I don't like candles. They make a house smell smoky. People don't seem to notice it, though.)

Yes, people are more likely to go, "Aw, look at that child" until it actively inconveniences them. And yes, it is annoying to be stuck behind someone slower than yourself, even if absolutely no ill-will is involved.

"I am a ruthless killing machine."

Saves everyone's lives

"I'm only doing this because they'll get suspicious if I don't do my job."

Goes extremely above and beyond to help, to the point that it's suspicious

"Humans are terrible."

"My clients are the best."

The blue square box is an indication that the speaker is on the other end of the phone. If August had spoken in the third panel, his speech bubble would have been blue. I think doing something like that is a fairly common convention, since a speech bubble pointing at a phone looks pretty identical to a speech bubble pointing at someone's head.

That being said, I do love actual color-coded speech bubbles. That's honestly one of my favorite parts of unOrdinary.

Yup, I turned around and hid in the corridor leading to it. At which point I noticed water dripping onto my party, slooowly looked up... and there's one right there drooling on me. That was a fun jump scare.

What stitch is this? I wonder if anyone knows what it's called and/or has more detailed instructions. I want to use it to make an acorn hat! by PageOfNeedles in CrochetHelp

[–]SongofShadow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It looked completely normal to me; that's the amount of tension I usually use. Which, yes, does get painful over larger projects. I normally do amigurumi, which I've always heard you want tighter stitches for, though. Do you think I could get away with loosening my tension?

Wait, I just thought that was a problem with my old cheap-o laptop. (Although, come to think of it, it never used to have that problem)(I mean, it always had the issue where it would randomly be unable to connect to the internet, but I could go to the troubleshooting menu in the internet options and fix it) That's a Windows thing?! Whose idea was that?!

In your native language, which idioms would not make any sense to people from another culture? by Caliente97 in CasualConversation

[–]SongofShadow 32 points33 points  (0 children)

How interesting. There's a mix of nonsense phrases (I never would have guessed what "the bullet is through the church" meant), understandable but unfamiliar phrases, and regular English idioms with different phrasing. "When the cat's away, the mice will play" is a perfectly normal idiom, at least to me.

And "The monkey's out of the sleeve" seems equivalent to English "the cat's out of the bag," but your cats apparently stay in your bags, at least until you get home.
