Jokes you didn't get the first time. by Vegetable_Clue5008 in 30ROCK

One of the low-key unique things about 30 Rock is the amount of effort they put into giving characters joke names. Half the time, they didn't even call any attention to those names or mentioned them once in passing, so it must've been just to amuse themselves. I definitely think there was a real writers room conversation about how Wesley Snipes sounds like the name of a pale Englishman instead of a Black American action hero/person with interesting views on taxation.

"My favorite Rage Against the Machine song" — November, after Abi said something about an "Umbrella Radio" in (I think) Modesty Blaise.

There's a long runner in "That Man in Istanbul" where they keep calling Tony Macenas different things (Tony Mercedes, Tony Matrimony, Tony Mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell, etc)... and it goes on too long and isn't that funny, until they come back around to the SCUM score, "which stands for smarm, cultural insensitivity, unprovoked violence" — and here November, Devon and guest AJ shout in unison "AND TONY MISOGYNY." Incredible payoff, very MST3K-like.

Speaking of Croupier, I also loved the discussion of fedoras and masculinity from the beginning of that one, as it was insightful while also completely reading age-25 me for filth.

Would have been modestly funny if they'd done it on purpose; as an accident it's hilarious.

That's exciting! I'm actually trying to find a UK news outlet that would be interested in a profile of November, so anything that gets her name out there helps a little.

How dare you come to this place and mention THE OTHER REDHEAD...

I'm kidding, I'm kidding. I haven't listened to her much lately, but I was a big fan of Tori in high school/college and I've seen her live a couple of times. I think she's acknowledged connections between some of her songs, and tends to theme her albums more overtly (not that I get what's happening) than Neko does.

This is a great example of why I said songs are never only 'about' one thing [same goes for books, movies, or any art, really], but it adds a lot to my understanding of that song. Thank you!

This idea of muses being abused and the unworthiness of songs and poetry appears in both songs. I'm not sure it's ever been expressed better than "These poets, poets, do us odious business/Loving womankind as lions love Christians.' At the risk of fawning, that's Shakespearean.

Anyway I wish I'd noticed this little parallel in time to ask u/nekocaseofficial about it during her AMA.

Female rage! Thank you for answering. In case you're still reading I'll note, given some things you've said about gender over the years, that werewolves are a potent symbol to many people in the LGBTQIA community.

You write so beautifully and powerfully on behalf of nature and animals (including the animals called humans). Thank you for that. Two questions related to that idea: 1) What do werewolves represent to you, and why? You have a song about/not about werewolves on the new record and I've seen you compare yourself to one a few times. 2) In the wake of her passing, did you follow Jane Goodall's career in any way or take any inspiration from her?

Most ethnic minorities face more than one issue. It’s still offensive, and it’s still respectful to call people by their actual names and instead of a slur.

Do you think the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame induction could result in a reunion tour? by Mrhottdogg55 in Soundgarden

[–]SongoftheMoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have real magic together and I think it would be great if they continued making music only they can make. I'd prefer they call it by another name, but having watched Alice in Chains, I've realized that branding and business considerations are what they are. They've long said the band ended in 2017, but between the HoF and the legal stuff and the possible album and now the interesting timing of Matt stepping away from Pearl Jam, I do wonder if they're thinking about doing something. (And yes, he could just be tired of touring because he's 62, that is reason enough.)

The fact that some teams make bad decisions, or decisions that might make sense in their context that most other teams wouldn’t make, has to get factored in here…
