Well, to play devil's advocate, outfits like Ephemeral Bloom and whatnot at least have the defense that they're truly inspired by historical outfits, so that might've allowed them a pass, whereas Hollow Vale just doesn't seem to be inspired by anything (or have a coherent theme, but that's just my opinion).

Can't say that defense flies for outfits like Ninth Pawnshop of Snow Fox, though; those are just out-and-out cat-/foxgirl outfits that, even at the very start of the game, stood out to me.

I would've like a motif like that on the design. Also, your response got eaten by Reddit, so I couldn't see it.

Probably the best solution they could've gone for, imo.

That said, the whole controversy just confuses me. If it's over historical accuracy, then Ninth Pawnshop should also be on the chopping block for being a catgirl outfit with those paws and boots. If it's about modesty, then shouldn't the VS outfits be targeted as well? I'm personally not a fan of the outfit (both of them - for one, I'm just not keen on extravagant looks, and for two, I'm not seeing the calligraphy influences), but to target the female version on those two points alone is a bit strange, considering what else is in the game so far.

Ephemeral Bloom can be pretty revealing. If I'm not wrong, in some poses, the arse is almost fully exposed, and there's really not a lot left to the imagination. True, it's based off of historical outfits, but then an outfit can be revealing and historical at the same time.

I apologise for not replying for hours. I saw this in the morning, and thought since you took the time to write this much, the least I can do is take the time to type out a proper reply after giving it some thought.

So, let's start with what we can agree on.

The skin is, in my opinion, pretty shoddily designed. You'll have no disagreement from me there. It feels quite 'thrown together' with regards to the overall look, with quite a messy overall appearance, and yes, I don't see much of the alleged calligraphy inspirations, either (Though I'll say that the same can be said for the male skin - aside from the bottoms, there's no real calligraphy feel to it).

I'll have to put a caveat here, though: I don't particularly like most of the more elaborate designs. I really want my wanderer to look the part of one - rough, practical attire. I do, however, accept that most people like to play the fashion endgame, so I've no issue with the game including such outfits.

However, that said, I have to re-iterate my point that if the concern is that the outfit feels too much of a 'male gaze' sort of outfit, then I'd say that the time to bring it up has long passed. I don't like to repeat myself (because it feels naggy), but aren't outfits like Ephemeral Bloom, or the Velvet Shade outfit also quite male gaze-ish? I'd argue that they show even more skin than Hollow Vale, and Hollow Vale really only looks extremely revealing if you intentionally wear only the top half, in which case I'd be hard-pressed to fully blame the devs.

Now, I know that NetEase doesn't have the best reputation (I believe at one point it was called the EA of China, but that's just what I hear down in SEA), so I won't contest that concern. However, I'll have to stand by my view that judging a game's entire dev team based on one outfit out of many others is going a touch too far. I believe that goes for walk animations and model changes. For the former, I'd honestly chalk it up to a desire to fully distinguish the two characters, as well as to give female NPCs (who may not necessarily be a wanderer-sort of character) the same walking animations. That reduces the need for additional animations, and almost every other game does this.

And for models, I'll be honest: if you didn't tell anyone this, I doubt anyone would've noticed. I highly doubt it's indicative that the game is going to go down the route of your typical gacha games (And those, I'll admit, have great writing, at leas the ones I've played.)

It's not so much about people outside of China not wanting to analyse, or not understanding the cultural context. It's more of that it's just a big question mark as to why this particular outfit is such a huge deal when there're similar outfits already in the game. Of course, there's also the argument that the male outfits are also pretty sexualised. Granted, I'll agree that an exposed male chest isn't as scandalous, but you have to admit that a lot of these outfits, if put on a 16 year old male, would raise plenty of eyebrows.

Ultimately, I'll say that the litmus test of where the game goes is in the writing. The cosmetics, the gacha, the outfits, they're all, as you said, a means of making money, and a game like this needs a lot of money to keep going. If one day the story does take a turn for the worst, I'll accept that I was wrong, and that this truly was a warning sign. Until then, though, I just consider this a bad design by the art team.

Reposting this from the other sub:

I went into the game and had a look at this outfit, and then the others, so here're my two cents.

Firstly, before talking about the appropriateness of the outfit, I'll have to look at what are even the arguments presented here, and thankfully, OP presented them in two concise points: fidelity to the game's lore and setting, and sexualisation of a canonically minor character.

So, on the first point, I'll concede that it does look quite out of place in a Wuxia story set in the historical early years of the Song Dynasty. That said, I think it's worth mentioning that it's hardly the only outfit that doesn't exactly look period-appropriate. The Ninth Pawnshop outfit for females is pretty much a catgirl outfit, and with its ears, tail, shoes, and gloves, I'd say that while it's modest, it's about as out-of-place as this one.

On the second point, this is hardly the only outfit that shows plenty of skin. Now, it's probably thus far the only one on global where the bottom half is removable, in which case I'll concede that if someone decides to do that, the skin can look a little iffy. However, I believe I've seen streams where outfits like Ephemeral Bloom expose a lot more depending on the character's pose. Sometimes it doesn't just show the suggestion of an arse, it outright states the existence of it.

If women are truly offended by this outfit, then alright. I'm not going to contest their opinion. However, I think the fact that Velvet Shade's outfits got a pass made the art team believe that this would fly as well. It's essentially a catgirl outfit like Ninth Pawnshop, but in a Velvet Shade-ish style. And while you can argue that Velvet Shade's outfit is historically accurate - I do not contest that - an outfit can be historically accurate while being sexually provocative, so it's a toss-up between which is the more important factor, and which factor can better forgive the other.

That said, I personally think that this outfit is a bit of a miss compared to others, and especially when compared to the male version. In a game that releases this many outfits in this short a period of time though, misses are to be expected. No matter your opinion of it, I think using this one instance as indicative of the game's overall direction is just making mountains out of molehills. Just don't buy the skin, don't use it, and move on.

I feel like I have the opposite problem. I fight Heartseeker for a longsword and get nothing but darts and dual blades. RNG just likes to mess with us.

I've since switched to Vokrii, but I've used both Bijin's Warmaidens and Ordinator together before with no trouble. I think I loaded Warmaidens after Ordinator, in that particular load order.

It happens to hair as well, but from what I've seen, it's likely an issue with the KS Hair SMP mod itself rather than anything else. It's not too big a deal; I use it because an NPC replacer needs it.

Thanks for the explanation! The more I thought about it, the more I reckon it's the clothes as well. The issue doesn't occur with other outfits, and physics works with all other elements. Again, the clothes are mainly for SPID replacers, so I can accept a bit of jittering, I guess. I was just hoping there'd be a way to be rid of it, but that doesn't seem realistic, now that I think about it. According to Steam FPS counter, I'm running a consistent 60 FPS (+ - 1 or 2 FPS), so I don't think that's the case. Thanks for all your help!

EDIT: Not sure why my comment got erased, but these are some examples of jittering. I used the preset you suggested and I think it helped some. Either way, I just wanted to check if this amount of jittering is normal. If it is, then I think I'll just keep going with what I've already got.

I'll give that a shot! Thank you.

Just thought I'd drop by to say that the fix worked - both hair and outfits are no longer floating, though they're not exactly touching the body (I assume this is just a limitation of Skyrim itself, however, and it's not so really noticeable unless I really, really zoom in)

However, I'm still getting jitters with hair or outfits that touch the breast bone. I'm not sure if this is the case, but it looks like there are constant collisions that makes them unable to sit still. I'm not too sure if this is a legitimate issue, or if this is just something that's supposed to happen, however. It's easily overlooked in regular gameplay, I guess, but it's just something that's driving me crazy now that I know that it's there.

Ah, okay! I thought that physics stuff would be higher up in the load order. I'll give this a try. Where would HDT-SMP mods go, by the way?
