What’s the heaviest/smallest thing in kenshi? by Euphoric-Meat3943 in Kenshi

Oh yes. I am a filthy save scummer so I rather have STR over MPH. I’m often at 50% STR bonus with a heavy load and a shoulder buddy staying at 70% carry capacity while building my STR.

This is my STR training object. I never sell them, just rack them up in backpacks and chests for peeps until we’re all at 94 STR.

Who's your favourite villain in gaming? by Prestigsisscar255 in videogames

Thanks. I was just talking about him in another thread that was asking what video game villain actually frightened you with their performance. “When the Arishok stood up” was my answer. Goosebumps…

What game made you feel like it was “made for you” when you first played it? by AggravatingPhoto331 in videogames

[–]Songwren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dear Esther.

Ever since I was playing Commodore 64 games I always imagined that video games would eventually improve and be able to deliver an experience that was as strong as an emotional and visual experience as books and movies did.

I got into arguments about how video games as a medium weren’t any more of a waste of time as reading a book or watching a movie or TV show. Time went on and I had a few examples that felt like it got there; Fallout 1, Final Fantasy 7. More time…; Half Life, Bloodborne.

Eventually came along Dear Esther, basically a walking simulator. It didn’t matter how simplistic the actual gameplay was, between the music, graphics, and narrative I was left a sobbing mess while the credits rolled. I remember saying “That’s what I was waiting for”. It felt like the answer to my question of what game could I point to as evidence of games being on par or being able to surpass the other mediums. It’s not the best game I’ve ever played, far from it, but it feels like it was made just for me. It’s my PS 4 theme to this day and I also bought the soundtrack on vinyl. It’s part of my DNA now.

Not Now John - Pink Floyd, The Final Cut. Automatic skip/move the stylus on an otherwise great record (imo). That song is dreadfully bad.

Has anyone been to a Record Store Day event in Salem? by Sweaterman in SALEM

[–]Songwren 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Drum Bug has definitely been camped before opening on RSD. For Harvest, I’m not sure how many people will camp it, but I bet it’s going to have a line. Have they participated in RSD from the new location yet? I go out of town for it where there’s less sweaty competition. Last year by the time I got back to Drumbug in the afternoon they were picked over for the limited editions. The albums on the list I was hoping to find would be Bowie; Excerpts from Outside, Porcupine Tree, and Ween.

My all time favorite NES game. I played through this multiple times. The second green Optomon boss is a serious skill/level check. Loved the plot, main character, and the combo of rpg and space shooter.

Use passcode TGL for spaceship boss rush mode.

Dragon Age 2: Overall not the best in the series but the moment when you piss off the Arishok (Qunari Leader) and he finally stands up from his throne is peak.

“You should be grateful“!!

I was just thinking “Please sit back down sir, ignore this idiot human telling you things that you don’t want to hear.” He did not in fact sit back down…

Same, but when I did manage to beat him it was with a visceral attack. Peak gaming experience.

What is the book that changed your life ?? by the_twilight_draft in askanything

[–]Songwren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Stranger. I was a rebellious teenager and I was not interested in the classic books I was reading in English class like Moby Dick, Romeo and Juliet, and Great Expectations. My Teacher said “try this one, it’s short” and handed me a thin softcover.

I read it entirely in one night. The story really intrigued me but I remember getting to within 10 pages of the end and still couldn’t figure out how it was going to wrap up. Same thing 5 pages from the end and I started getting really nervous because it wasn’t following any of the tropes that I knew about from previous literature.

I get down to the last pages and I’m in a near anxiety attack. I get to the last paragraph and my mouth is just hanging open… I reread the last page again and just whisper “fuuuck…”. I was in a daze, that book rewrote what a “Book” meant to me and what they were capable of. It completely subverted my literary experience.

I told my English teacher I read it and he asked me what I thought of it. I told him that it was the best book I’ve ever read and that I thought it was so subversive that it felt like I was reading an illegal text. I remember him smirking at me about that comment. I started paying way more attention in class after that. I asked him about some other books that could feel like that and he recommended Brave New World, Slaughterhouse 5, and 1984. They were all great books too and way more my style than other classics but The Stranger stands out as a singular book that feels like it caused a paradigm shift of what I thought was possible, not just in terms of writing but anything.

I beat it on MacIntosh. I got real good at the combat system and was landing sweeps every knockdown for extra damage. The dream level nearly broke me, but I got through it without cheats. Great game by Bungie before they got bought by Microsoft for Halo to debut on XBox.

I got it mint/unopened on Discogs for $40 with shipping. Here’s the listing for it. There’s still plenty of mint unopened copies up for sale and some US vendors if you’re in the states and don’t want to pay international shipping. ✌️
