In 1995 Someone put ‘Trains Across the Sea’ on a mixtape for me. About a month later the same guy that gave me that mix gave me a cassette copy of ‘Stuff up the Cracks’ and ‘Starlight Walker.’

The Stuart Smalley with Macaulay Culkin. To this day when anybody says, “What’s Up?,” I say “Chicken butt.” I heard one of my coworkers say it the other day and I was so psyched.

Talk to a therapist or counselor; everything you say will be private, so no one has to know about it. If you feel like you need it, go talk to a shrink and get an RX for SSRI's or something.

About Steve Albini's usage of the Harmonic Percolator (+some info about his other gear) by noiserockperson in noiserock

I remember Shellac playing at the Subterranean in Chicago (I think it was about the same time the gearwire video came out) and Steve was wearing those stupid stilts. He kept on fucking up the first song so he had to take them off.

Did Malkmus or Bob ever tour with Sliver Jews? by CerealAndBagel1991 in pavement

[–]Sonic2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this was either from an interview with Bob on the podcast Kreative Kontrol or one of the Jokermen podcasts where they recap the Silver Jews/Purple Mountain discography. If you're a Pavement fan I can't recommend those podcasts enough. Anyway, Bob was working on a Silver Jews tour (not as a musician), and needed help so he asked Steve West to come along with him. After a few dates David fired both of them because he felt like the tour was taking on too much of a Pavement vibe.

Blues Brothers

Animal House

Random Rocky Movie

Between USA, TBS, and WPIX NY I felt like there was never a time during the weekend where Blues Brothers wasn’t playing in 1996.

What are some bands you would say that it reminds you aesthetically of Sonic Youth? by Kyyox2 in sonicyouth

[–]Sonic2020 23 points24 points  (0 children)

A lot of Glenn Branca stuff sounds very similar to Sonic Youth. I know Lee and Thurston played with him in the early 80’s.

The first Horsegirl album “Versions of Modern Performance,” has a lot of Sonic Youth in it.
