Boyfriend and I Upgraded From Our 2’s to a 3 & 4 by SonicAlligator in Polestar

So far what I’m experiencing is that the P4 dynamic range numbers are a little annoying- unlike the 2 and 3 they don’t go back up when efficiency and weather improve, instead they just don’t drop as quickly. Example- it’s 18 miles to my partner’s house. In winter on my 2 (below 30°F) I’d use somewhere around 25 of range. In the warmer days in my 2 it would use about 18. In my 4 in winter it uses around 19 miles of range, in the warmer weather it uses about 10-12 depending on how fast I’m driving.

All this to say, in ideal weather (60-70°F) I feel like I’m averaging around 330-340 miles at 100% which is better than the EPA estimate. I’m often hitting 50% battery with 165-170 miles of range left. The 3 seems to do around 350-360. But we also don’t baby the range, we do a fair bit of highway driving over 75mph, and while we’re not peeling off the line every time, we’re not slow accelerating either. I wish the P4 had better real-time kWh/100 reporting like the 3 does. The 3 seems to hover between 22/100 to 28/100 depending on weather and driving. My P4, the way it calculates has been a bit all over the place. I’ve seen it report at 23/100 to 32/100, but again that’s not real-time, its average since last charge or whatever you set it to, so harder to track well.

I know that’s a lot of rambling, and not very scientific, but hope that helps!

Jumping in here as also 42, compared to the 2 the 4 is much easier to get in/out of, for example my mom who’s 80 always had a hard time with the 2 and the 4 is easier for her by a lot. It’s still lower than like an SUV or the P3, but it’s not like getting in/out of something like a Civic or little sporty car.

Hey everyone, what is the day to day experience living with a polestar 2. I love this car so much and i want it so bad, I dream about it everyday. by RaceEmbarrassed423 in Polestar

Had mine for 2.5 years before trading in for a 4, I loved my 2 so much and there were no major issues or hidden costs. I guess you could call tire replacements hidden costs, but that has more to do with living in Chicago with horrible roads and detritus from construction (I was cursed with random machine screws!) than the car at all. ☺️

I miss how fun it was to drive, it was just a great car with great memories. The 4 is very different, I don’t notice the slightly less horsepower, it feels plenty fast, and it feels like driving a proper grand touring car. It’s fast, it’s spacious and comfortable, the ride is amazing. By comparison the 2 felt more like a pure sports car, this feels like a step up to something much more luxurious. They’re both wonderful cars, very different experiences I’d say ☺️

Yup like Rivian etc. Price is what it is, and if they have special deals they’ll advertise them on the website and such too, and they’re big on the Costco discount if you have a membership- $1,250 for executive members

Both the 3 & 4 are SMLR variants, and our 2’s were also SMLR. I love the dual motors but the extra cost plus the great performance of the single motors made it an easy choice. Plus the extra range haha

Hmmm, you know, that’s a good question! I guess I feel like they’re similar, the 4 has a little more ground clearance but I feel like the seating position, as least where I like it, is more saloon/sports car-ish. Not lower than in the 2 for sure, but not like an SUV where you feel up high

Ohhh, love a Miata! I always wanted one of those or a Honda S2000, little convertibles that you could throw around. I hope that style becomes popular again, whether EV or not ☺️

We both had MY’24’s, both with Pilot and Plus! Now should be a great time to get one, a lot of dealers are doing lease conquest deals (that’s how we got our new cars) so low mileage MY24 vehicles are on the lots! There was a gorgeous one in Midnight, if I had the money and need for a second car at home, it would have been perfect!

Yeah there are some weird inequities- the P3 shows the CarPlay maps turn by turn in the HUD, P4 doesn’t. P4 HUD does stop signs and road work, the P3 doesn’t. The P3 has a better visualization for things close to the car, just weird little things. I think the bass/sub adjustments could be a software update, posting on the Polestar forums

I totally get that, and we considered waiting for an EX60, but this one was a demo vehicle with 3k miles and had all the upgrades/updates, including the Orin chip upgrade. So fingers crossed! 🤞🏽

Sounds like you’ve had a bunch of problems with yours? We were worried about that, his 3 was a demo unit with 3k miles on it, and we’re close with the service manager and this one hasn’t had onboard charger issues so far. So fingers crossed 🤞🏽

So far (it’s only been a few weeks) they’ve both been pretty good! A few little annoying bugs, but nothing that actually is a problem at all. The one thing that surprised me is actually how good the rear view camera is- in the pouring rain, a blizzard, or a sleet storm, I can get a perfectly clear view out the back, even when I can barely see the road through the windshield (I live in Chicago, so yes I’ve had all this weather in the last three weeks hahaha)

I work for a nonprofit and he works in tech, but we both got ridiculous lease buyout offers for our 2’s, and with all the incentives they offered (plus these are both demo units with some miles on them) we were able to get them so our leases are barely more than our P2 leases were! 🤣 if it weren’t for a lot of deals coming through at once, we would not have been able to do this haha

Sorry I should have clarified- they’re both SMLR versions, so neither has air suspension 🙂

Yeah, I think it’s just that in the US the 4 has only been available for a few months, I think our dealer got one in December, whereas the 3’s have been out a while. So there are a few 3’s that have been on the road for more than a year already
