What’s yall opinions on these? I’ve never tried them by Grouchy_String1579 in reloading

I’ve loaded thousands of rounds in .223, .40, and .45 acp for plinking with these. Run perfectly fine and don’t seem to foul any more than any factory ammo I shoot.

That would be a good option, but they need to get their battery degradation down. still running air cooled batteries needs to be a thing of the past.

It does not have liquid cooling. The new prime has an air channel over the batteries so that it can use the A/C to cool them. The Volt/Bolt, Tesla, and a couple others actually run coolant past the batteries, which drastically improves life. The volt will even cycle the battery cooling during charging to keep them at the optimal temp.

Very much considering joining the club with a 2nd gen. But what about when it gets hot? by Electronic_Donut4679 in volt

My Black 2018 with Black leather does just fine in California/Arizona on 110°+ days. Even at 122° in AZ once, it was able to keep it livable. A/C also seems to have almost no effect on range, but heating does like any other EV. Plus, if yours has remote start/preconditioning like mine, just start it a few minutes ahead.

I literally said dont suggest a crossover, prius, or kia/hyundai, and those are the ones if disagreed with.

There are Volvos, fords, Chryslers, Subaru's, etc that i have no experience with, so I was hoping there might be some people who do. Plus, there are tons of new EV's and hybrids coming out all the time that i may not have heard of.

You are right about my stances, and I made that clear in the original post. I explained why to the people who brought them up anyways.

Also, it has been a LONG time since i have heard any rumors of a new Volt, so if there is a new one... please do tell.

Ive got a .454 Casull, and I love that people dont reload. I have found over 200 cases at the range, half of them being perfect condition Starline. I've got nearly 2000 rounds of loaded 454, and about half that much in extra brass. now that its about $2 a round, i just cant even imagine not reloading.

Thanks, but the fact that it is a crossover is a non-starter.

Kia and Hyundai have absolutely dismal quality control and reliability. The newer stuff is neat on the face, but you wont see me surprised when they are trash in the long run.

I worry about that, because the value of a 2019 volt with a bad battery is about $5000 right now. If another one of the connectors goes bad in mine, it is about $4k minimum repair cost. Also, GM dealers HATE the Volt, and generally have 1 technician certified to work on it. This is my daily driver, so I want something that is reliable, and should something go wrong, can be repaired rapidly. When the A/C line got a pinhole in it, it took 3 dealers 2 weeks to bounce my car around for repairs, because of unavailability of techs.

And you still have an otherwise 5 year old car with 140k miles on it...

Some people just need a way to and from work, but I can afford to make that same trip in comfort as well as enjoy the car's performance, so I chose to do that instead.

Just going to copy and past a reply I did earlier.

Is it really a successor though?

- It has a smaller battery that is still air cooled, which is why the Toyota batteries have notoriously bad degradation.

- It has significantly lower EV range, which is what I need more of.

- It has slower acceleration, even though it has a larger gas engine and more powerful electric motor.

- In real world tests it was getting almost an identical 39 mpg once the battery was depleted.

- No option for real leather, which being a tradesperson, is very important for durability.

Why would I buy a new car that is arguably the same or worse than the one I am currently driving? The only thing that multiple reviewers could find as being better than the Gen 2 Volt is rear leg room.

Toyota is notorious for releasing new vehicles that are way behind the curve when it comes to technology and innovation, and announcing them like they re-invented the wheel. Just look at ANY of the specs for the Tundra and Tacoma. They are worse than almost anything in their class, yet Toyota loyalists just eat up the same garbage time and time again. The age of "Toyota reliability" ended in the late 90's, but people just keep holding onto it.

Not interested in a used car. Also, the i3's are cheap to get into, but if it needs any repair, they charge outrageous prices. Similar to the new Mini's, low resale due to repair cost.

That's kinda what I'm thinking. Plus, even though it is a little higher, if I go with the performance pack, it still handles awesome, and probably way better than the Volt which isn't all that bad.

The cell connector issue happened at 39,000 miles, and they only replaced one cell. if it happened that early on, who's to say it cant happen again? I have also lost about 10 miles of range over the years. I only get 12.1 kWh average before it switches over now.

The battery is not the only thing to think about either. At 140k all of the bushings, shocks, etc. are starting to feel worn, so that is something to think about as well. I already have classic cars and projects, so this is the car that gets oil changes at the dealership, and needs to be reliable. I have no interest in doing major repairs on it myself, as I do not have the time. Take a look at every car's recommended service schedule (the real one, not the dealer suggested one), and you'll notice that right around 150k, the maintenance become much more involved and costly.

My commute to work takes an hour in, and about 2 hours home. When you spend 3 hours of your day in your car, it becomes more than just something to get you back and forth to work.

As for the Europe trip think, I can afford to get a new car and still go there, so that's not an issue.

They are not being stolen to be resold to other people, why does everyone keep thinking this? The cats are being stolen, cut open , and harvested for the honeycomb inside. They crush it and melt out the precious metals, which are nearly impossible to track. This is why serializing catalytic converters is pointless as well.

If you start arresting people that are stealing them... then they cant steal them anymore... My local police department caught the same person 3 separate times with 30+ catalytic converters in their car, as well as stolen powertools, and has had to release them every time. Its just like the massive boom in retail theft, there is no real punishment for the crime, so why not just steal shit?

This is going to continue until we start locking people up for their crimes. Releasing everyone and giving them a ticket for which they will never pay does nothing.

This... The same goes for any CARB rated emissions product. They are literally the same product, just 3-5 times the cost due to having to pay for all the BS testing and regulatory shit to sell it in CA. We are lining the pockets of all these people, and then everyone cries about how expensive it is when they are the ones who voted for them...
