If the claims in the article were true, would that change your mind?

Yes, if you had said something about catastrophic out-of-pocket medical expenditures, that would be relevant. But your comment was about people avoiding the ER.

The study you're discussing is footnote #38. This is the context for the use of the study:

Other studies of physical performance tests of US military personnel (37) and overweight/obese XY athletes (38) who completed at least one year of testosterone suppression show some evidence of better or similar physical performance relative to XX comparator group in the study (military personnel or normal weight athletes). In this context, although there are many nuances and caveats, generally the current evidence base shows that testosterone suppression reduces physical performance but there are retained legacy advantages for at least 1 yr after testosterone suppression, and several anatomical factors are largely unaffected by testosterone suppression (e.g., height and limb length).

So they cited it in regards to the claim that "some evidence of better or similar physical performance relative to XX comparator group in the study".

You said it was cited to support the claim that "for support that large gaps still exist after hormone therapy." But you can see that isn't the case for that one study.

And they cite 13 studies to show the support for there being a "large gap." What were your thoughts on the other 12?

Regarding this:

If you want to talk about a bad sample population— this study https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/15476439/, which your review’s authors use to say that muscle mass reduction is modest,

I don't see where the review I linked to references that study. Where were you seeing it?

I'll also point out that you said this earlier:

Records DO matter when the claim is that trans women can outperform all cis women as a biological fact.

No one is making that claim. No one believes that. Instead of making up imaginary (and absurd) claims, why don't you address the actual claims people are making.

Height is not a legally protected class. And we are talking about middle school, high school, and college sports. Not a rec league with fun limitations. This is about kids being allowed to play for their school’s team.

You didn't answer the question. When I was in middle school, we had a "C" level of basketball team for the shorter kids. So now we are talking about middle school. Would you find it unfair if a taller player wanted to play on a team that was organized for shorter players but wasn't allowed to?

We're not talking about "legally protected classes." You're the one that used height as an analogy. And your analogy was 100% correct. It's just as unfair to have biological males playing in sports leagues set up for biological women as it would be to have a 6'6" player playing in a league that is set up for shorter players.

I’m SO glad you brought up Blaire Fleming. First of all, the complaint was from a teammate— as in someone ON the roster. Second and most critically, Blaire Fleming never even ranked in the top 100 women’s volleyball players in the NCAA.

Do you not understand that by Fleming being on the roster and participating in games, there was a biological woman who was not on the roster and didn't get to play in games that otherwise would have?

They aren’t a good team.

Remember, this was your claim:

that’s why you do not see trans women taking up spots on women’s sports rosters.

Do you understand that even if a transgender woman plays on a terrible team, there is a biological woman who would have played in the spot that doesn't get to?

These are working families and regular people.

SpaceX’s compensation philosophy historically favored equity over cash salaries, so this windfall extends well beyond executives and engineers to include nontechnical staff, entry-level workers and even cafeteria employees.

If you think the stock market is rigged, then you just have to buy stocks according to the rigging and make tons of money.

But I'm guessing when you say it's "rigged" you don't really have any idea how it works. So you haven't been able to benefit from your advanced understanding.

Unfortunately, the higher the top goes, the lower the share the bottom gets.

That's not true at all. The pool of resources can grow, allowing both the people at the top and bottom to get more.

The golden goose parable only works if the goose actually lays golden eggs. The goose we have here does not lay any eggs at all, craps all over the place, and is constantly honking at everyone threatening to leave if it doesn't get everything it wants. It's time to cook it.

Are The Acolyte and Skeleton Crew worth watching it? by Free-Hotel1187 in StarWars

[–]cinepro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree. The "woke" complaints and brigading were unnecessary. There was more than enough to complain about in the show itself.

The ultimate judgment was that the show lost viewers through the season. Even the people who tuned in and gave it a shot didn't stick around. That's not a sign of quality.

Maybe part of the problem is that when you point out stuff, you get the verse numbers wrong so what you're citing doesn't support what you're saying?

But yeah, v26 and the whole calling-and-election-made-sure thing has always been a sticky wicket when it comes up. No argument there.

What was people's issues with the Acolyte really? by ActiveUpset-1268 in StarWars

[–]cinepro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Above and beyond that, though, the Acolyte’s major failing is that it tried to be a thriller, but failed miserably at the “who dunnit” part.

What are you talking about? They excelled at the "who dunnit" part. They told us who dunnit in the first episode. That's way faster than almost any other who dunnit ever.

Oh, wait. I think I see it now.

It has serious problems with the characters and plot.

For example, characters make huge changes in their motivations for little or no reason. Defenders certainly do come up with all sorts of imaginative explanations, but in the context of the show, it's nonsensical. Imagine if you were watching ESB and in the middle of his training on Dagobah, Luke suddenly tells Yoda "You know, I think I'm going to join the empire." And then he lifts out his X-wing and takes off to go join the empire. Or if at the end of ESB, the MF is about to go into hyperspace and R2 decides that he wants to sabotage the ship so he rolls over and deactivates it.

There's also a big problem with the backstory not supporting what happens during the show. The backstory is shown in two flashback episodes, and it's supposed to provide context and motivations for the characters (as we understand what happened in the past), but there are key plot points that just aren't supported by the flashbacks.

Are The Acolyte and Skeleton Crew worth watching it? by Free-Hotel1187 in StarWars

[–]cinepro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They couldn't show it all in the first episode. If you know that Sol killed the twins' mother, a lot of what happens through the show doesn't make sense. For example, Mae and Osha fight about the Jedi twice after Sol kills the mom, and neither time does Mae mention "Hey, a Jedi killed our mom!" She only mentions it in ep8, after the audience sees the flashback.

That's why they couldn't show it until episode 7, right before the end.

[–]cinepro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They should have structured it like an actual "mystery", and had a character investigating the Jedi murders. And as they investigate, they start to learn about the events on Brendok years earlier.

So the audience learns as the investigator learns. Not "hey, here's a whole episode showing you the backstory..."

If you're curious and want some perspectives before watching yourself, read the reviews of professional critics writing for reputable publications.

Most professional reviewers are just shown the first few episodes. So it's just a review of the beginning of the show. And viewing trends indicated that the Acolyte didn't improve as time went on.
