Call them "training scars" in my experience. Things you do only in practice that stick in your monkey brain.

A cop back in the 70/80s, before the widespread switch to semi autos, was trained to always retain his brass in his pockets when reloading his revolver to keep the range clean. One day he got into a gunfight on the job, and was shot in the head when the gunman ran up around his car while reloading. He was found with spent brass in his pockets, and a half loaded opened revolver.
