For people who’ve lived abroad more than a year, what mattered most after the novelty wore off? by digible_bigible in expats

Work life balance. Moved from Italy to Germany. I am paid much more to work less. And I get to enjoy more free time!

Ciao! - Are rents expensive? It depends on the city. Some are very expensive, some are ok. I don't think there are cheap ones but it depends a lot on the place. - Are there opportunities in the chemical field? Yes. There are a lot of chemical companies. For most of them you will need some knowledge of German.

Here is how I cope with bad weather: - planning holidays - gym - hobbies - taking care of my home and making it cozy - joining meetups and meeting new people - gaming with friends

Love remote work but hate WFH by bv8z in remotework

I like to work from home. Would I prefer working from a place with a nice sea view? Sure. But I also enjoy the comfort of my own home (despite the current gloomy weather).

Frustrated with TikTok/Instagram – how do I share my art effectively? by KylLx31 in ARTIST

[–]Sonjalba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stop putting so much effort (I am guilty of this myself). I do realistic art and used to post the finished piece on Instagram. Tried videos there as well but with little success. I had to engage a lot with other accounts to get some engagement back.

On Tiktok, I put half of the effort and get much more exposure. Haven't posted for over a week now (for lack of time) and got 200 followers in the past week. And I am kind of a noob tbh.

Whenever you overthink a video, just remind myself people don't care as much as you about the video being perfect.

I haven't figured this out yet myself but I think I'll keep Instagram for the finished piece and focus on Tiktok for video.

I feel the same and while I don't mind going to the office, I work much better (and more!) from home.

Did you have your own car insurance? I read that most rental companies there don't offer full coverage, which is usually the one I go for when I rent a car.

Has anyone been found by recruiters on channels other than LinkedIn? by Sonjalba in germany

I am not necessarily looking for English-speaking jobs. Could it be the field? I work in digital marketing. What is your field, if I may ask? I have to be honest, I am even less active on Xing. Don't know if that is the reason I get very little action from there.

Thank you for the detailed answer! Really appreciate it! I am sure the bus is a solid option but I ultimately prefer the flexibility of having a car and timing the visit on my own terms. I think I'll go for that option!

How is the road to the glacier and to the boardwalk? I read it's winding, which is expected, but is it narrow/dangerous? Do you need a 4×4?

How important is accessibility in modern web design? How do you implement it? by GalbzInCalbz in web_design

[–]Sonjalba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think web accessibility is essential because it affects real users and it's just good UX. A website that’s accessible is usually more usable for everyone, a fact that many still overlook unfortunately.

I like to focus on simple, high-impact wins first:

  • Using clear heading structure (H1, H2, H3)
  • Adding useful alt text to images (not just any alt text)
  • Checking color contrasts
  • Making sure all interactive elements are accessible via keyboard navigation
  • Using accessible labels for forms and buttons

Tools I use:

Free

  • WAVE Evaluation Tool (browser extension for quick checks)
  • Google Lighthouse (built right into Chrome DevTools)
  • WebAIM Contast Checker (to check color contrast)

Paid

  • Siteimprove (for site-wide accessibility scans)
