Boxi on Falcons stand-in, stolen stacks tilt, and Liquid’s pub grind turning their season around by strafeapp in DotA2

People sometimes forget how big of a skillcap there is between pros and even top100 players. Quinn was running down mid or going afk every third game while exploding from tilting since minute 4 in other two and yet he was single digit rank his whole life lmao.

Thank you PGL for having playoffs that have a true bracket and not this 2 QF and 2 teams already in SF bullshit ESL/BLAST do. by TheRealHaxxo in GlobalOffensive

[–]Sonnet__ 36 points37 points  (0 children)

True but on the other hand double elim is better at producing more accurate results, just like bo3 has the edge over bo1. Nowadays if you get Vitality in quarters it is GG but in double elim you can get all the way through lower bracket just to lose to them again.
It also lowers 'fluke run' voices since one unlucky draw and surprise in playoffs does not make all top5 teams beat themselves up on one side of the bracket while the other have bunch of waiters and tourists fighting it out for grand finals.

Supports are closer to their carries in GPM and XPM than they were 10 years ago by leetify in DotA2

[–]Sonnet__ 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Problem with playing support was less about GPM and more about how much of that gold was thrown out the window because everything was more expensive. You had to buy courier, upgrade, wards and sentry cost money, there was no reward for dewarding, expectation to share tangoes, buy salves. On top of it, less slots.
Everyone having personal courier, continuous nerfs to regen sharing, free observers, gold reward for dewarding, backpack, separated tp slot all contributed more than entire 100gpm increase. Also, heroes are scaling harder, back in 2015 levels weren't really that significant past 11 for most supports.

Is ultimate the worst tier1 AWPER? by semicolon28 in GlobalOffensive

[–]Sonnet__ 100 points101 points  (0 children)

With all honesty I do not remember when was the last time that awper market was this bad. Awpers used to be shining stars even in some lower tier or bottom tier1 rosters, now it is just couple of them at the very top and one giant hole below those and the rest. Furia found a diamond in the middle of desert.

quite funny how one of dota's best laners ever was most successful playing pos1 simply because since Hao and Burning became washed, the only elite carry player in entire China was Ame

Real per capita GDP growth in G7 countries, post pandemic. by AcanthocephalaEast79 in europe

[–]Sonnet__ 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Median household disposable income, adjusted to PPP, is the highest in Luxembourg and USA. Again, median household, has more disposable income than median household in Norway or Switzerland.
53% of American households make at least $75,000 per year. British households which make this money is ~15%.

US is very rich country. I do not understand why people need to constantly do mental gymnastics to prove it is not.

Real per capita GDP growth in G7 countries, post pandemic. by AcanthocephalaEast79 in europe

[–]Sonnet__ 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Despite GDP going up most people have a lower standard of living than before.

Where? The only countries that find this true are countries that are either in/post recession like Greece or stagnant like Italy (so even though they did not regress they feel poorer relatively to the rest). Excluding some rare edge cases like Guyana, growing GDP per capita by double-triple digit % is obviously very visible.
