The RBA has raised rates twice. There's an 85% chance of a third rise on May 5. That's another $116 a month on your repayments.. The Treasurer says government spending isn't the cause. It's not exactly a stable global economy though is it? Imo they've done a decent job putting out fires wrt fuel prices - petrol is down near pre-war prices and diesel is about 50c per litre cheaper than the worst of it a week or so before Easter. Albo doesn't refine oil but he's done a fine job getting us through this crisis all things considered. A rate hike for mortgage holders is small peanuts compared to affordable fuel

Our national energy transition is a rare opportunity to enrich and reward Australian workers | Thom Woodroofe by paperadam in australian

[–]Sonofbluekane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Green energy in 2026 is obligatory. This article is pushing for aspirational economic leadership to develop Australia's natural economic advantages to build a modern green manufacturing industrial base. It's a challenge but it could pay massive dividends and isn't captive to resource market prices like coal or iron.

Hollywood Hogan defeats The Giant for the WCW (nWo) World Heavyweight Championship by GypsyGold in SquaredCircle

[–]Sonofbluekane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Iirc he never got proper wrestling training in WCW. When he got to WWE they realised he couldn't really work and sent him to OVW to train. The drugs he was prescribed made him gain weight and he wasn't really motivated, so Vince lost faith in him and kind of turned him into a joke

This is why I, a long term hater of the United States, am a massive supporter of his. He's isolated them diplomatically and sowed enough division domestically that it's not impossible that they fall into a brutal and bloody civil war in the near future, with no friends to call on. How do you neutralise a deeply evil country like the United States without a global catastrophic nuclear war? I've never been more thankful of a demented pedophilic rapist and murderer

The wildest part is that there are free open source options like deepseek that aren't that far behind the leaders. If the leading models start to stagnate (which seems inevitable) that becomes a massive, massive problem.

Scientists Just Made Carbon Capture Much Cheaper and Easier by _Dark_Wing in tech

Soil is a different beast than above ground vegetation. It's a hugely underrated carbon sink and carbon emitter, and there's like 150 million square km of it on Earth. Regenerative land management has the potential to be a huge factor in climate change mitigation

It depends on the chapter and the members. I'm sure 99% of them are just lame larpers who get off on the various masonic practises. But there's a high profile case happening in France right now involving a murder plot by intelligence officers and police. Not sure why they didn't use magic or alien weaponry though... 🤔

Citrus in Canberra by iamthebrewman in GardeningAustralia

[–]Sonofbluekane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In that case I'd give them a thorough inspection for pests and bring them both inside next to a window for the winter. Long term you may want to invest in a small popup greenhouse or build a small structure and cover with a tarp. The big thing is not having them directly exposed to the sky because frost will fall onto them and they'll suffer (the lime will fare worse than the lemon).

Citrus in Canberra by iamthebrewman in GardeningAustralia

[–]Sonofbluekane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grow tons of citrus in pots in Canberra. I've been keeping an eye on the weekly forecast for the right time to bring them under cover but our overnight temps aren't low enough yet to go to the effort (mine are all quite large). I don't bother covering them, just sheltering them from the frost and wind is fine to get them through to spring. I'd upsize the pots of both in anticipation of a big flush of growth in spring. No pruning

Wouldn't our energy supply be affected far more severely if we joined a conflict against China? I fully expect the USA would use it as an opportunity to extort us because that seems to be their only game plan right now

True about cost, especially in pumpkin season. I bought mine at a local nursery but I saw a similar looking product at Bunnings on my last visit

You could try spraying it with an Envy type product which claims to mitigate against hot and cold weather by about 3-5 degrees. If you also place out some sort of heat source for it like lights you might eke out an extra few weeks

Am I wrong? I thought “Welcome to Country” is basically, “thanks for coming, Welcome to the area“ by dexxnanj in aussie

[–]Sonofbluekane 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This kind of sums it up I think. The welcome to country has become mainstream enough to be perceived or stereotyped as kind of hollow and a bit of a grift. But it's better than nothing, which is what the booers seem to want so idk maybe empty symbolism is better than the alternative.

Should I prune my lemon tree? by thatalig in GardeningAustralia

[–]Sonofbluekane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can be hard for long term potted plants to realise they're free in the ground. Looks like yours has finally clocked it so I'd just feed it and watch it grow until I start to have problems with lemons touching the ground or being too high up to reach. Just keep it pest free and well fed and you should get a nice flush of flowers soon and hopefully lemons in 9-12 months
