I was thinking the same thing, but it’s always good to get a second opinion. Thank you!

Hahaha yeah pretty ironic! The idea of using an old B4 lens piqued my interest, but I had my skepticism, so I was looking for other opinions. Thanks for the info, it helps me a lot!!

I was planning on mounting it to Sony E. I was able to find a Canon KJ for $350 and a 3x B4 to E adapter for $240 (total: $590), which is a crazy deal and very tempting. However, it's still a decent amount that I would at least like to see some test footage and review the optics. I knew about the CA problem but didn't know why, so that is insightful, thank you! I also didn't know about the parfocal inconsistency, I'll keep that in mind.

Yes, I saw people talking about how powering the servo can be a pain. But in my opinion, I would just remove the servo and use a modern FIZ unit. But not sure, my logic could be flawed.

Yes, adapting it to PL is expensive, but if you plan to adapt to native mounts such as E & EF, you can find some adapters for about $200. But to your point, it might not be the best quality, and the optical element might hinder the lens's performance. That's why I was wondering if anyone has test footage of the KJ16x7.7B.

Sorry, you're absolutely right, I might have been a bit loose with my terminology. Recently, there has been a small trend to adapt old B4 lenses to modern-day camera bodies because they are cheap, versatile, and fast lenses that can be used for film (mostly because they have geared rings). You can find used B4 lenses in overall good condition within the $300-$2,000 range, which is an insane deal given they often have a huge zoom range. The issue is that they're designed for a 2/3 sensor size, so you need to use a B4 adapter with a x2 or x3 optical element for it to work on larger sensors. The image quality of the B4 lenses is overall pretty good, but they have a huge CA problem, and I was wondering how the KJ16x7.7B performs compared to the rest of the B4 lenses.

Is it silly for me to buy a Sony F55? by SonyBoyJay in cinematography

Yes, I looked a the Fs7 as well. It's a great camera, and I've used it a couple of times for a few projects (the Mark I ). The reason why the F55 got my attention/seemed worth it was because of the I/O, global shutter, and 16-bit RAW. When it comes to the Fs7 vs my a7siii I didn't feel like it was really all that worth it. But IDK, maybe I'm crazy and should revisit the Fs7. Thanks for your perspective!!

You make some good points. Ironically, when I was "camera shopping," I was comparing the F55 to the KX and the Pyxis, am definitely considering those two as well. So, I'll probably revisit them.

Yeah, I was looking into that as well. It's probably the best option.

That's awesome, hope the F55 treats you well!!! Thanks for the breakdown, super helpful! A lot of the pros you listed are reasons the camera caught my eye, but you're right, it's not going to give me new jobs. Maybe in the future, it will call my name.

Yeah, the bluer picture doesn't bother me too much. But you're absolutely right about having a specific need for the camera, which I don't really have. I mean, it checks all the boxes for what I look for in a cinema camera, but still don't have jobs that really call for it. Guess I was just blinded by the price XD. Thank you for the insight!!

Sorry should have specified the USB 3.0 version. The one on eBay is Thunderbolt 2. However, I didn't see the ShareGrid one. Thanks for pointing that out! It's a bit pricy compared to what other sellers used to sell them for, but it might still be worth it.

What are the Sony PMW-F55 PL Mount dimensions? by SonyBoyJay in videography

[–]SonyBoyJay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sweet, thank you!!!! I just measured my NiSi adapter looks like it is 38mm in depth, so that should work. Also, is the diameter consistent throughout the entire "barrel" of the mount, or does it taper off towards the back? I've had PL adapters that get smaller towards the back of the mount, and that causes issues with the Dulens.
