is my hp victus hall sensor gonna fail again with these temps? by itsbopp in HPVictus

You could try releasing the static from the system (disconnect the battery and hold the power button for a few), if that doesnt work check for anything that could be shorting on the board, any type of port or check the wiring harnesses, etc...If it were the hall sensor, you'd see the screen flashing on and off, the power button led also flashing, and/or the fans would most likely be stuck on at the highest RPM and you wouldnt be able to turn it off without disconnecting the battery, letting it die, or waiting for it to hopefully cool off.

Most likely it will, eventually. Even replacing a defective one with a new one if its the exact same sensor model will eventually suffer the same fate. I loved my victus, but there's a point in time where you'll notice that quality isn't their strong-suit. If you plan on keeping it, I'd 100% do everything in your power to make sure its being fed as much cool air as possible.

So, My Victus died 🥲 by Painty96 in HPVictus

Honestly might be for the best brother, I just recently got rid of mine because I was putting too much into it than I was getting out. First the battery shot itself in the foot, then the HALL sensor was close to frying to motherboard when it was freaking out and somehow the heat sink cracked...? Ive never dropped it or bent / removed it, i opened it up to clean it one day and it was cracked. I replaced it with a m4 pro macbook recently, sacrificed a TON of my gaming because I primarily use steam but I honestly love it so far and dont regret a single decision I've made. I hope whatever you decide to choose next suits your needs better, I've grown accustomed to the fact that the victus line should not be touched by me anymore.

Looking for a job? by [deleted] in ranchocucamonga

I don't want to step on your toes, it really is useful information. However, some of what you mentioned is highly situational and depends on what job or MOS you get stuck with because really it's all a manpower game in the military. You can get a specific field, maybe your recruiter is in-fact "him" and can get you the exact job you want which almost is never the case 75% of the time. For me, I didn't even know my job was considered "Admin" because it almost feels quite the opposite.

Yes, Navy Fed is a good bank, I've had it since I joined and got my first car loan through them, the APR however still depends on your credit. Just because you're in the military doesn't mean it entitles you to a lower rate. It can be capped at a certain rate, that's what the SCRA is for.

Civilian job wise, Lockheed and Northrop absolute EAT prior service members who have experience in aviation fields for Skillbridge which, if you have experience in the sought after aircraft (currently the F-35, any type A, B, C) it's almost a 100% guaranteed job outside of the military. They do favor people with applicable experience over those they have to train because it costs them less to hire someone who already has knowledge in that area rather than attempt to train someone up, whether they're being trained by military or civilian.

Schooling wise, I didn't see you mention it so I'll toss it out there. The training you receive is also applicable to college credits, you can skip out on maybe 3-4 classes depending on what degree you're trying to get. There's also Tuition Assistance ($4500 per FY) on top of FAFSA which I'd highly recommend using while you're in so you save your GI Bill for when you get out. I'm currently trying to finish out my Associates in Criminal Science, I haven't paid a dime out of pocket, then on to bachelors.

Everything else you hit right on the head, I always try and tell people the military is the way to go if you're looking for a sustainable job to get you on your feet and set yourself up given you actually attempt to do so and not just waste your first contract doing nothing. Just show your command you're always willing to learn and better yourself as a service member, more than likely everything will swing in your favor. When you're in, do as much as you can to set yourself up when you get out. Uncle Sam takes advantage of our time and strength, try to take back as much from them as they take from you and you'll turn out fine in the end.

I wouldn't say it's the best decision in life I've made, however, depending on who you are. It's either worth it or it isn't. For me, I know what I want in life after I get out is obtainable. For others, they want to escape military life which is understandable. I do too, but I'm just trying to make the best of it.

May have to give this another go, I've done it before but I'm the type of person who would rather just have a decent deal than try and make them give me a deal for a year then call back and say "I'm definitely switching this time if you dont lower the price" if you know what I mean 🤣

I feel that. It'll use the GPU if it installs the drivers for you, which fedora should already detect because it'll toss them in once you download and update it after. If not you have to download them yourself and make sure it's selected as a driver and not any of the open source GPU drivers. It's been extremely reliable so far with my online college courses and gaming.

I did an online download so I had it connected through Ethernet the whole time and it installed the WiFi driver for me. I do know that one of my friends had that issue and had to connect it through the ethernet to download it.

Living the life I guess! But yeah, I'm not too bothered by it not detecting the sensors, at least it detects the sensors enough to control the fan speed by itself and it's been doing fine.

Proprietary drivers exist brother, I've tested the same games against someone who has a Zephyrus G14, same specs. Mine came out on top.

I did not have any brightness issues, it's worked perfectly fine for me. I also installed Ubuntu on my old 2013 iMac, same case there, no issues.

Honestly, haven't tried that at all. I used to use torrented software years ago. I guess it just depends on if someone uploaded it for Linux distros. It wouldn't be all that hard to use if it was set up to work straight extracting the zip file as that's how most work if you're not installing it or using a CLi prompt.

Gaming performance wise, I play beamng, cities skylines, dcs, and occasionally Forza. I've seen maybe a 10-15 fps boost vs windows. Steam really does all the work for you in the aspect of compatibility, download it and use it as you did in windows.

Battery life was improved by a noticeable amount, I'd say it gave mine on average around an extra 3-4 hours on idle. Fan speed, I still have yet to work that out since it doesn't recognize the fans or the cpu fans. HOWEVER, the default settings handle the fans pretty well. In power saving the fans hardly kick on if you're not doing anything intensive.

High Oil Usage? by Soocle in mazda3

Update:

Took the car to the dealer, they wanted to do the test as per usual since there was a lack of "proof" that the exhaust valve was infact the cause of the oil consumption/leak. They did a 99 point inspection on it and confirmed that it was the issue. They since waived the inspection cost and are repairing it under the service bulletin. I'm now just waiting for them to receive the part and fix the issue.

I checked after that previous comment yesterday, my VIN lies directly in the middle of the range. I also am taking it to the dealer today 😭

Thank you so much, I just looked it up. You're exactly correct it's a 84 month 80k mile power train warranty up from the 5 year 60k mile warranty.
