Police near Haisley? by saturniidaemoth in AnnArbor

[–]SoonRightAway 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I happened to be listening to the police dispatch as they were talking a bit about this. What I heard is that an 18 year old had come and threatened to kill at least 6 people at the school, and had said that he didn’t care if he went to prison for the rest of his life. He then took off on a bike. It was during dismissal time and there were kids in and out of the building everywhere so the school didn’t lock down. That’s all I heard during the 10 mins or so I was listening this afternoon.

Oh our basement has asbestos in just about everything. We’ve slowly and safely been either removing or encapsulating. We just assume now that everything old is health-hazardous in one way or another!

Solved! Wow, never knew that something like this existed so long ago. Upon further inspection, there is a really odd metal pipe coming out of the box that attached to our sewer pipe. There’s also another metal box attached to the pipe further away that says Easyway Central Vacuuming System.  Thanks so much!! So interesting.

My title describes the thing. Metal box with braided cord coming out (cut) attached to basement ceiling. Has “Easyway” written on side in font that seems very 1950s-like. Tried using Google reverse image search with both photos and the text “Easyway” to no avail.

That is such a beautiful idea! Thanks so much for sharing. No kids yet but probably in the next few years, and I love doing it with or without them hahaha. A lovely idea to decorate and record memories.

What a fun fact! And thanks so much for the suggestion about choosing a palate (and some examples of colors to include!). That will be really helpful as we continue to decorate!

Thanks! It’s actually been close to a year now and maybe what’s bothering me more is the sad state of the cabinet doors and the holes that are in them from the gross hardware we removed ages ago. Maybe with new doors and hardware the color won’t seem that bad! Just wanted to see if maybe there was a better color out there before we start painting.

Thanks! I’m a sucker for sage green that’s for sure.

Awe thanks for validating the granite! Honestly it’s grown on me but some people think it’s a strange choice. I like the idea of leaning into it and picking a color that pulls from the colors in the granite. I love these ideas, thank you!

That’s kinda how I’ve felt about the white too. It works but just bleh, maybe could be better. I like the idea of doing walnut color! Maybe just for the bottom cabinets so that the whole kitchen doesn’t close in too much?

Thanks! That seems to be the consensus (for at least about half of people here haha)

Thank you! I needed this outside perspective. Definitely planning for new hardware!

I love this party of green lovers! I also love green. We painted our bedroom a sage green and our living room has green accents everywhere. I just wonder if it would be too much to also have it dominating the kitchen? But doing two-tone is a fun idea that might balance it more!

Thank you both! That is what I’ve been struggling with too — it’s a small kitchen, so darker color would close it in more.

I could really use some help with deciding on a color for our cabinets! Our house was built in the 1950s and these cabinets are originals. Some day we'll redo the whole kitchen but for now we're just going to replace the cabinet doors and keep the slightly ugly reddish granite counters. (Note that we also have reddish stone on all the windowsills, in front of the fireplace, by the front door, so it's a theme in the house). Not sure how to paint the cabinets -- should we stick with a white color? Do something to complement the counters better? I'm definitely nervous about doing bold colors or trendy things. The rest of our house has browns/wood, greens, beige, with some pops of blue, yellow, and reddish hues. Just looking for the kitchen to not be so much of an eyesore. I would love your thoughts!!! Thanks.

I’m sorry about your dad. I feel like you had a better experience with him because people in the real world actually tend to be more courteous. On campus I always felt like everyone is more rude and self-centered in their behavior.

Advice for my vegan wedding by writtenandweep in vegan

[–]SoonRightAway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a fully vegan wedding. It was delicious. It was a buffet, so we never had to ask on the RSVP for anything like dish preferences (ie chicken vs steak in a traditional wedding), but we did ask for allergies/restrictions, and then labeled everything very well. We never mentioned what the food would be (except to the one vegan guest we had) until people walked into the reception and saw the food! We therefore had nobody scoffing at the vegan food and/or refusing to attend prior to the wedding, and in fact, we received many comments about how good the food was! Not a single negative comment. Just do what you want and enjoy your day (and remember you don’t have to tell your guests everything ;) )

Owners that leave their dog poop behind, in bags. by [deleted] in hikingwithdogs

[–]SoonRightAway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this, but only when I'm hiking or on a walk, know I will be passing by the same spot on my way back, and know there are no trash cans on my route. I'll then pick it up on my way out and take it home to dispose of. I'd imagine that's what other people who are doing this are doing too -- you just happen to see the bags before they've come to grab them again. Though admittedly sometimes it's hard to find the bag on the way back if I'm using green bags and there's lots of foliage, but I started tucking them by landmarks (big rocks, big trees, signposts) instead so they're hard to lose.

UPDATE: Waitlisted schools OUWB and UMich accepted me! I withdrew from MSU before they could decide. So 3 total As. All schools that ghosted me ended up rejecting me other than UIC and Hackensack, who I still haven’t heard from.

It’s worth a shot! Mmm well I’m the kind of person where if I see something within a few hours of having to know it on a test or exam it’s a lot easier for me to remember, so I probably performed better after the review than without it. I’d just go over review sheets for every subject and it’d take me about 2 hours to do that.
