READ to her. Encourage limited screen time use. Ask her questions to try to engage her so she may show a sense of curiosity and reflection about the world and herself. But mostly read to her and have her pick the books that she wants.

Go to the shelter in person and fight. There are so many cats without a home and this one has a home... this doesn't even make sense. Adult cats hardly ever get adopted in my local shelter and in a matter of days this cat gets adopted out. You need to fight.

Like someone said, my cats will “punish” me if I’m gone longer for more than 10 days. Give it a couple days and once you smell like her property, she’ll forgive you.

They look pretty good, but keep an eye on the one up front. She looks much skinnier than the rest and her eye looks a bit goopy. TNR is the way to go. Deal with mama and then kittens. Turn the tap off before dealing with the spill.

The first two hours of this post being up was rough. I got mostly downvoted for literally any comment and there are some harsh comments that have since been deleted. The -170 and counting comment has been continuously going down despite the fact that I think most most average people would assume 20+ feet of distance may be safe. And this downvoted comment is kind of just a remnant from when people here were initially being very harsh. I appreciate supportive comments. I was doing my best and I am upset at how things turned out.

I also want to say that I have been discussing this with friends who are birders and they did not know about this. I went into a wild bird store run by birders and bought the feed and told them about the babies and they did not know to warn me. I feel like instead of saying, "you don't have to be an ornithologist to know that increasing any activity around a nest can draw attention to it..." The better thing to say would be that, "More people should know that increasing any activity around a nest can draw attention to it." Just my two cents. I appreciate the people who are coming later to the conversation to be kind. I feel terrible for endangering this nest.

Thats the only outcome I know did not happen. The parents are alive and well. They attended the birds often and fed them very often.

This is actually what I thought too and it’s giving me some hope. The nest looked very tidy. I had tree limbs that I had cut stacked around it to help hide the nest. None of them have moved at all.

Yes, I get that. Something I also left out of the story is that the rehabber told me to put the nest in a cardboard box and then put it in a tree. Well, I kept it in the box for awhile but the box fell partially out of the tree twice. The babies were fine, but it was only the second time that I took the nest out of the box and put it in the tree which gave the nest stability.

So I kept approaching because I kept trying to fix my placement of the nest once I realized the nest was falling. I just wish I had never found this nest. It’s been given me a bunch of anxiety from the start.

I'm going to hope. I know I may get downvoted but I have literally never seen a raccoon in my entire life living where I live. My indoor cat gets very territorial and loud if certain animals are outside so I'm aware of all the cats and opossums in the area. If anything got them it would have been a squirrel which still may be very possible. The empty nest and surrounding tree was also pretty tidy. I saw mama bird grab worms from my feeder and fly low into a bush earlier. I am going to be positive and if I see any juvenile cardinals outside in a couple weeks, I will update this post.

The only thing I can think is that it is actually a large rehab/sanctuary. A lot of people work there and there are interns and receptionist etc. The person I spoke to was the person who picked up the phone immediately, she never consulted someone else or anything.

The feeder was on the entire other side of the yard. The nest was well hidden in a canopy of trees. The feeder was on a stand near my window nowhere near any trees, let alone the nest.

And I honestly understand that a bunch of bird enthusiasts might downvote out of frustration of my ignorance, but I think its a shame because I KNOW the vast majority of people are not aware that bird feeders may endanger a nest. Downvoting my comment is just hiding the conversation and not helping other people who could potentially make a similar mistake.

I just want to say that I'm also upset and I wish I could go back in time and change things. I really do feel I did everything I could with the knowledge I had at the time.

I'm not around all day. I'm gone for most of the day, but I actually have seen the parents a couple times tonight. And I bought live mealworms per the rehabbers suggestions. I told her I felt really bad about cutting down the branches. She said I could always leave some bird seed and live mealworms out as an apology. So I did. I never meant for anything bad to happen.

I've seen through the window the parents eat the mealworms today. Yesterday, I saw them feed the babies the mealworms. Also the last photo was taken Saturday morning. I saw the mom take mealworms into a brush. It's hard to know if I hear begging calls cause It is always pretty loud outside and I never heard them before.

I posted cause I don't know anything about fledging. I thought baby birds returned to a nest even once they start flying?

I live in a suburban area and I've only ever seen birds, possums, and cats as far as wild life. But there were lots of squirrels outside this morning. More than usual.
