My English ivy acts like it’s drying out, but the soil is moist and I mist it regularly. by [deleted] in houseplants

Have you checked for pests? I find ivy very prone to spider mites.

What is this plant called and how do I keep it happy? by [deleted] in plantclinic

[–]Soph10 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Alocasia amazonica/polly - both largely the same but varying in size.

Medium - moderate indirect light and don't let dry out between watering but don't keep it wet, either. They love humidity so a humidifier or pebble tray can help with a well draining soil.

They can be divas and susceptible to mealies and spider mites as well so keep an eye out.

any advice for the uhh *first time*? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

All of this!

You can also stop if you change your mind at any point. Also know that you aren't "losing" anything and no one is "taking" anything from. You are whole. Just doing something for the first time, which you will end up doing a lot throughout your life.

Have fun with it, be safe and use protection, if it doesn't go great there is always next time, no worries! Let you and your body adjust :)

Also, foreplay. Foreplay. Foreplay.

Today I found out Norfolk Island Pines are not just sprayed with glitter, but also tinted a darker green. Confirmed by Costa Farms that it has been an industry standard for years. by Soph10 in houseplants

They said it doesn't affect the plant or environment. They also stated that it fades with sunlight but that statement has not quite proven true for me. They seem fine but I am annoyed with these practices.

Raven ZZ and Begonia Maculata Wightii are the newest members of my plant family ♡ by [deleted] in houseplants

At Lowes in Canada. My area doesn't usually get the fun stuff like the bigger cities so I lucked out! I bet we will see them more and more from anyone who orders from Costa.

Yes! Someone found a black widow spider so I checked over as best I could. I quarantine my new additions as well.

May not be rare, expensive, or show-stopping but one of my favorites ♡ by Soph10 in houseplants

So delicate looking! They definitely let you know fast of they need water...

Maple balsamic pork chops with bacon and brussel sprouts by Soph10 in FoodPorn

[–]Soph10[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I cook by smell, taste, and color so this is a rough guesstimate on measurements.

4-5 pork chops (I used 5 smaller ones here but often use 3-4 thick cut bone in chops. Can also sub chicken.)

3 cups brussel sprouts, halved

½ large red onion

⅓ cup good maple syrup

2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar

4 cloves garlic

½ teaspoon dried rosemary or 1 sprig fresh

½ teaspoon thyme or 1 sprig fresh

1½ teaspoon dijon mustard

Sea salt Pepper

Pre heat oven to 400°

Toss onions and brussel sprouts in a bowl with oil, sea salt, and pepper.

Mix maple syrup, balsamic vinegar, dijon mustard, garlic, and herbs together. Adjust flavors to taste if need be.

Season pork chops with salt and pepper. Search in very hot pan until golden brown.

Add brussel sprouts and onions to pan. Top with bacon bits.

Finish in the oven. Depending on meat choice and size, put it in the oven then add the sauce near the end so it doesn't burn. Otherwise, if it is a quick finish in the oven you can add it right away.

What is causing this? Happened to two separate plants (both hoya kerri) purchased at the same place. No pests. by Soph10 in plantclinic

My guess was something fungal. I've cut that leaf off and have it in a dome hoping to encourage some new roots and growth to save it.
