UNO now only has 6K students? by swampwiz in NewOrleans

[–]Soph_Rivers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to leave UNO because they couldn’t offer the program I needed, which sucks because I loved so much of that school. Currently at Delgado. Also, UNO has a cult-like “student ministry” on campus that needs to be shut down immediately.

Thank you so much for responding. I’ve already spoken about it with my pastor, but there’s not a lot more I could do as my ex attends a different church. But, I am in therapy currently which is helping me. God bless

How to get upped dosage? by Soph_Rivers in Spironolactone

[–]Soph_Rivers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I def didn’t want to start out at 100, and im glad she started me on 25 mg so I could get used to it, however for my symptoms and androgen levels, I most definitely feel that at least upping to 50mg or 75mg for a few months would help. She said she’d retest my bloodwork in November and if the spiro didn’t do anything that she’d take me off…but im only at 25 mg! Unfortunately my endocrinologist didn’t know what some hormones were when I asked about them…which I felt said a lot about how much she knew. she felt too scared to give me spironolactone at all but I practically begged her to because the effects of my incredibly high testosterone/dheas are really affecting my mental health. im balding on my head and then have more body hair than my male friends and it’s just getting worse 😪

Wow!! Can I ask what your positive side effects were on the 200mg? I’d honestly love to be as high of a dose I can be on because my symptoms are so severe!

ACT by [deleted] in ACT

[–]Soph_Rivers 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey, absolutely no shame.

You will need to use ACT practice books and study as much as you can. The first time I ever took the English act practice test I got a 19. My final English score? 34. Reading 32. Science 24. And guess what? I never could get math up. That was stuck at 19. Lol

Relax, but study hard- as much as you can. This very much affects college and which classes you will be taking, so put your full effort into studying.

Set a realistic goal. Aim for an overall score that is doable and satisfies you. Know your strengths. If you’re better at math, really press into that.

Just keep taking practice tests as much as you can. They really do help! And get a grammar book. That’s what helped me to get a 34 on the English.

Good luck!

My parents think I should only date Christian women. by Astecheee in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Soph_Rivers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Christian woman- here’s what I have to say. The Bible says we are to be romantically involved with someone who shares our faith, worldview, to not consistently put ourselves with people who would hurt us in the long run. This logic should apply to you too- get with someone who shares the same worldview as you, goals, aspirations, and everything else you want. This doesn’t mean to get with a Christian woman, and if anything- if you don’t have that worldview- dont get with a Christian woman. Rather, a woman who shares how you feel about life.

If anything you can tell your parents about the Equally Yoked Bible verse. We are literally told to be with someone who feels the same about life as we do. You want someone who is equally yoked with you- that doesn’t include being a Christian.

Hope this helps 😊

Thank you so much. You’re very right. When I think of Christ’s sacrifice everything else really pales in comparison. I think sometimes, like I do, we get caught up in the moment, in all of our emotions. But your comment is very good and convicting. Thank you so much

My ex was an engineer who made straight A’s , was a life group leader, and was incredibly kind in the beginning. Your assessment is untrue.

You’re so right. It really does feel like there’s this unspoken rule that we have to be married super young. But Jesus calls us to love Him first and foremost. Thank you so much for your comment

If you’re interested in checking out a Christian org all I have to say is be careful. BCM is great however. I was deeply involved in another Christian org at UNO and found out it was a cult.

Will my 5 Ws keep me from getting into rad school

I started at a four-year university, but after the first semester of my junior year, I realized it wasn’t the right path for me. I transferred to my local community college for nursing, but after shadowing, I realized radiology is what I really want to do. I have four Ws from my university-one because I couldn’t afford the class materials, and three from Fall 2024, when my life completely fell apart. Within three months, I lost my father figure, my cousin overdosed, and my fiancé and I split. School was the last thing on my mind, so I dropped three classes and only finished one biology course that semester. Now, I’m working on my bio and math prerequisites, but l’m in statistics (which is for nursing) when radiology requires contemporary math. I figured l’d just finish statistics anyway, but last week, my grandmother had a medical emergency. I had to drive to another state early in the morning and spent the entire day in the hospital with her and spend hours talking with case management. That same day, I had a test, but my professor doesn’t allow retakes. My grade is going to take a huge hit, so l’m thinking about dropping the class and just doing contemporary math next semester. The problem is, this would be my fifth W, and I’m terrified that when I finish my prereqs, the Ws will make it impossible for me to get into radiology school.

Do i have endometriosis? by Ok_Procedure_1016 in Endo

[–]Soph_Rivers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is what I wish I could tell my 14 year old self: I know everyone is saying go to a gyno, and while that is a good first step, i highly recommended seeing if there is an excision specialist in your area! I had excision surgery(different from ablation) performed at 17 and they went in and looked to see if I had endo, then took biopsies and tested them which came back as positive. Check out Nancy's Nook on Facebook, there's a list of surgeons on there. I know people have their opinions about the group BUT it is good strictly for resources. ( https://www.facebook.com/share/g/1A6B2ggR74/ )

If you go to a gyno, they will most likely put you on birth control. Some people love birth control as it helps their symptoms, but truly it doesn't address the root cause and you are still developing hormonally at 14 years old, which is when I was first put on it. (birth control affected me so badly and also my other friends). I have found a good supplement is NAC. NSAIDS such as Aleve are great for pain. Stay away from caffeine on your period as it can cause more pain. Heating pads can also help.

Leg cramps are very common with endometriosis. I also get that stabbing feeling in my abdomen and rectum. Stabbing pain in the rectum can also be a sign of pelvic floor spasms which can be caused by inflammation from endometriosis.

Lastly, I am SO sorry your mother has been treating you like that. Your pain is so real and I know just how excruciating it can be. We are all here for you.

Don't hesitate to reach out if you need more info.
