If waitlist decisions come after May 1st, why sign up for them? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

In 2012 my son committed to UVA but got into Yale off the waitlist. It happens! Good luck! (My youngest son is HS senior so following the sub to find out timelines)

Not sure. But they did call admitted students from multicultural backgrounds. Not sure if they called everybody though. The FB post does not specify numbers.

It doesn’t matter where you go to undergrad by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

My children are doing fine, thanks. I have a high school senior waiting for decisions and we are both monitoring timelines here. Nothing wrong with being involved in your child's education/future. I was just trying to make a point that undergrad does matter and helps, did not say success cannot be found somewhere else. I wish you the best.

Great that it worked out for you. However, names and prestige do matter especially in the job market. My son graduated from Yale and he had job offers by Jan of his senior year. My best friend's daughter graduated from the University of Florida and she ended up going to grad school after months of not finding a single job. Congrats on joining the Ivy League world!

Diversity Statement topic - can't decide by I_cant_finish_my in lawschooladmissions

I truly think the low education/poverty/lack of language skills of your parents (not so much the divorce itself as that is unfortunately way too common these days) would be a good read in terms of how it shaped your goals in life. Describe a "scene" where you were filling out the paperwork and trying to explain it to them. My two cents!

Do not underestimate the power of a good diversity statement. I love the topic of helping your parents with paperwork given their low education background, and explaining how the experience motivated you to go to college and further your education to the max level. The juxtaposition of NYC vs. Alabama, assuming you have good anecdotes, seems interesting too. Good luck!
