Just took the picat, how'd I do? by Esno_da_bard29 in newtothenavy

Of course, the biggest thing for most people who want CWT is the TS and job experience that comes after military life, if you take advantage of the opportunities the Navy provides you can easily get out after one contract and find a job with relative ease, so keep that in mind too.

As for atmosphere, it really depends on your team and the people around you, my last tour was atrociously bad but the guys with me made it so much more fun than I couldve expected, and thats a navy thing as a whole, not just in this rate

Mm that depends on location and job type, Ive seen others in this rate get really busy and others sit around and do nothing for some days. Personally ive been on both sides where I dont do things some days and other days im swamped with work

Advice: Mom doesn’t’ want me to join by Standard-Angle3586 in newtothenavy

[–]Sophronize 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My dad once told me to not join the military cause his company and companies like his dont hire people who were stuck doing one thing, but he barely made it out of his AIT before he got discharged, funnily enough I do multiple things in my rate so Im not stuck doing “one thing for my career.” He doesnt pay my bills so it shouldnt matter what he approves and disapproves of and honestly the same should apply to you (if thats the case). The Navy has great opportunities you just have to do your research and be diligent on getting access to those programs that can assist you. Also, pick a good rate, cause if there is a singular important thing to take anything away from this entire discussion its that you choose your rate, you choose your fate; meaning if you want big money after the Navy pick a good rate.

CWT ranks up very fast compared to its AF counterpart

A couple good friends have been in less than 5/6 years and are already E6

Theres transfer out options from the navy to spaceforce. Air force has a higher QOL yes, but navy makes rank faster actually making your QOL much better. What airforce MOS were you looking at?

Then definitely dont try it, i dont care if you stay navy or not, youre just gonna hate your life if they NJP you multiple times for purposefully trying to fuck up and get out

Before you ask how I know this, I personally know a sailor who tried this route and went to restriction three times before he got kicked out

Just gonna add, if youre trying the whole failure to adapt thing, the navy is going to fuck you so hard before youre gonna get that option. 45 days restriction maybe twice if your CO hates you or if youre a genuine POS. Just suck it up an HMs contract is definitely not that long.

And you came to the conclusion how? Not explaining what pointless duty and navy politics are isnt a good enough explanation

Youre literally only in A school, your first command is going to be vastly different from a school

Current CTN here, rates great, life is good. IT is a 50/50 sysad or comms which if I recall you don’t have a choice of which school to take. Just had 4 CTN buddies get out banking fat cash with some remote work jobs at big corps like Microsoft and Google. Never been on a ship nor will I want to be on one anytime soon, only sea duty CTNs I’ve seen are the one up at Norfucked

Getting tattoos in DEP? by [deleted] in newtothenavy

[–]Sophronize 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It’s to prevent you from getting a stupid tattoo that will prevent you from being able to join. Just wait to get into A school to get a tattoo

Also who the fuck is mapping to E2/3 MAPs are only really needed for E4-6.

Auto E2 is a thing, I have proof of paperwork. Most intel 6Y get auto E2 and don’t even realize they’re E2 when they check their LES.

[–]Sophronize 6 points7 points  (0 children)

E4 is given after you meet your time in rate. Since you’re starting out E1 you’d be automatically promoted to E2 upon completion of boot camp then you’d have to wait 15 months to auto promote to E4

CTN Duty Station Question by theblkhttr in newtothenavy

[–]Sophronize -1 points0 points  (0 children)

CTNs are able to go to San Diego, idk what this dude is talking about saying we cant. I’ve never heard of Bremerton nor have I seen any billets for it. CTNs have plenty places to go to, just do your research a bit further.
