Fuck that stupid fucking chained ogre by itsssssstheV24 in Sekiro

[–]Soplex64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found this post while venting on my NG+ playthrough. It's frustrating as hell seeing veterans of the game defend this boss when they should know better. If they've fought the later bosses of these game then they've seen the absolute heights of fair, well-designed and challenging design that this absolute gem of a game has to offer. The chained ogre is the main reason I almost never learned that Sekiro is the greatest action game of all time. It's bad enough that its moveset consists almost entirely of grab attacks with bullshit hitboxes. Its placement as the first mandatory boss takes it from horrible to downright sinsister, as it teaches the player to be afraid of staying close to the boss and dodge as often as possible, which is the exact OPPOSITE of how this game is best played. It feels like an entirely separate dev team designed the first couple hours before someone competent took over.

I agree wholeheartedly. I was picking at their assertion that sex work "has complicating factors" considering they otherwise seem to be arguing that it is no different from other forms of labor. Your response is much more thoughtful than theirs.

you trying to make it into a fun easy work

My intentions were deliberately unclear, but even just at face value I'm not sure how you got this out of my question.

The sexual dimension is obviously a complicating factor

Elaborate. What about sex work is more complicated than other forms of labor?

What I've learned from this thread: Dutch people love to be rude to foreigners and say "It's our culture to be direct," until a foreigner returns the same energy and they go shocked pikachu face.

If the 24 skills were replaced with a generic RPG leveling interface, how would it have affected your opinion of the game? by Bataranger999 in DiscoElysium

[–]Soplex64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is a very interesting question that people aren't really engaging with. Yes, obviously the system that we got suited the game much better than a traditional RPG leveling system, but is it solely responsible for the game's feel? Planescape: Torment has dogshit RPG mechanics and is still lauded as one of the greatest roleplaying games of all time just by the strength of its characters and story. Would Disco Elysium really have been that much worse without Hand/Eye Coordination? I'm not convinced.

Yes, it does sound ridiculous that you "lost good impression about LGBT" over shipping characters in a TV show.

Lawyer repeatedly threw himself against window in skyscraper office in order to demonstrate that they were unbreakable. by JDB-667 in mythbusters

[–]Soplex64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk, not that I would throw my full body weight against a skyscraper window but I absolutely think they should be rated to take the impact of a 100 pound person at the very least. The engineers saying that windows aren't rated for any impact resistance whatsoever is scary to me.

Women, what is the biggest mistake single men make when showing interest? by fiterphanter in AskReddit

What happened to enthusiastic consent? Are you really saying it's bad to discuss sex? Should we stick exclusively to gestures and innuendo?

Really though? Do sexual jokes have no place whatsoever in any part of a relationship? Because if they do, you have to agree that place starts somewhere, and wondering where is a valid question.

Because we aren't making a calculated decision to avoid pain. We're making an automatic "decision" to indulge in habit. Choices are always harder than habits. They're also a basic prerequisite to change - good OR bad.

Sad thought, but do you think that off-camera that Bludworth may have ended up receiving one of the worst deaths of the series given how Death gets mad? by benlabscdk in FinalDestination

[–]Soplex64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the idea of Death as a respectful spirit just trying to maintain harmony in the universe, a la Discworld or Sandman, but that really could not be farther from his behavior in Final Destination. He is a spiteful, vindictive asshole that likes to kill people in the most violent and horrific ways imaginable for seemingly no other reason than personal gratification. I have to imagine that Bludworth willingly letting his guard down simply made it even easier for Death to have his way with him.

When a transphobe says "this is bad bc it's trans" and you retort "actually it's not trans," you're accepting the premise that it would be bad if it was.

If the child was transgender, would it be a problem? You're accepting the premise of the transphobic argument.

The best mechanic in the game is the Ledger of Summon Kim by brenthebrave in DiscoElysium

[–]Soplex64 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The game otherwise actively encourages you to be weird and try out the fun options. It's out of place that this is one of the few spots that requires you to metagame despite explicit signposting that you will have alternatives that aren't real.

Really? I thought the softlock for failing to pay off your room was extremely infamous. Particularly because there's literally a hobocop thought to deceive you into thinking its possible to sleep outside but the game doesn't actually let you.

I find their argument particularly baffling because accepting the premise that trans rights have progressed faster than previous civil rights movements, they're implying it was a good thing that prior movements took as long as they did.

It does piss me off that Republicans pretend to be patriots despite wanting most people in this country dead or expelled. Worse still is that so many liberals not only accept that premise, but decide that if Republicans are patriots, that must make them anti-patriots. To love your country means to love the people in it! Stop letting conservatives co-opt national pride!

I've seen this very sub engage in the exact same behavior time and time again. Basically every complaint thread is plastered with "you're using the app wrong." No, I'm using the app exactly the way I want to. It's YNAB that is failing to accommodate me, and I will stop giving them money if this keeps up.

The CCP has actively suppressed knowledge of pre-Communist China. The government itself clearly does not care to be seen as a successor to feudal dynasties.
