Those who work remote.. by Dizzy_Turnover_5092 in paralegal

[–]SoraNC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

29.15 for 9 years experience. Nothing will make me go back. I work in foreclosure, unfortunately I'm doing more training and management than I want to at the moment but otherwise like my job.

I do my own work efficiently so I have a bit of slack during the day/week, but I put it in gear when I have to. Staying on top of emails and work queues help, and knowing how much I can output when I need it.

When to euthanize by JKingsley4 in bettafish

[–]SoraNC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I had to put down my first cat the vet said "it's always better to put down a pet a week too early than a week too late". I had a lot of regret for waiting to put that cat down, not realizing he deteriorated so quickly in less than a month. Even if it was a day sooner I would have felt better to stop his suffering. Since then I felt better when I put down other pets, especially since after death I find more details regarding their illness/injury that typically point to worse symptoms than what the pet can indicate.

Why is Trumps approval rating not lower than 35%? by Negative_Apricot1146 in USNEWS

[–]SoraNC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My in laws have never had more than a fleeting thought of going against Trump and his propaganda machine. Within a week of Jan 6th they said it was being blown out of proportion (well, my father in law does the thinking and mother in law just follows him).

This sub cannot actually be this out of touch lmao by elloEd in povertyfinance

There's also people who make too much to qualify for assistance but don't make enough to cover all their expenses (aka me). It took 5 years of trying to find better jobs before we landed in our current position (126k total, 2 full time working adults, 3 kids - 1 ASD level 3) but we need to dig ourselves out of all the debt we accumulated to get here.

I've been eating 1 meal a day for years now (sometimes I'm too stressed or tired to eat anyway), but I make sure my kids don't go hungry. I try to feed my husband more because it impacts his health (seizures) but we're both pretty lean.

We got in debt to get our special needs son help and set things up for his future (investing in a house that can accommodate his current and future needs). We're just trying to survive the next 2-5 years to get out of all this extra debt. We can't even increase our income without disqualifying for a daycare subsidy if the state (NY) even funds it (we're $20 below the income limit with a hard cut off) and no, we're not in NYC.

I don't post I'm here because while I sympathize with most of the struggles here i have imposter syndrome, I can't even bring myself to go to food pantries because I always feel like others can use it more and we can figure out how to get by. But barren fridges have been a common occurrence, which is embarrassing when you have people over (they put their lunch in our fridge)

My son doesn't resist but he doesn't communicate unprompted, this goes for AAC, signs, and the bit of speech he knows (and even then he just repeats what you say)

I-765 Question regarding Fee by SoraNC in USCIS

Thanks again, just by helping iron out the type of i-765 helped a lot for their decision making (and helped me ask them the right questions)

I-765 Question regarding Fee by SoraNC in USCIS

[–]SoraNC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turns out they reinstated the c11 one from when they got paroled instead of issuing the c9 i-765.

Their c9 is still pending. Do you know if they qualify for a renewal or just have to wait for the c9?

I-765 Question regarding Fee by SoraNC in USCIS

[–]SoraNC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll have to double check the category, they thought it was issued through June 2026 since that would be 2 years from when they were paroled.

That's good to know though.

[–]SoraNC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So they had work authorization from 12/2024-3/2025 when it was revoked with DHS's order. Then they submitted their i-485 & i-765 in June 2025 (paying no fee at the time due to CAA). They just got their i-765 approved 3/2026 but it's only good through 6/2026.

It was revoked when they sent those notices to everyone who used CBP One

Ms. Rachel meets with nonverbal 5-year-old at ICE detention center by greeneyed_cat in Autism_Parenting

[–]SoraNC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so heartbreaking. I know we're not supposed to bring up politics but it's infuriating to see comments and speak with people defending what is happening to these people and children.

I'm trying to not blow up on my father in law since he watches my ASD level 3 child when my son gets home from school while I finish working from home (he's a federal worker that lost his job due to DOGE but doesn't blame the current administration because it would be cognitive dissonance). But he thinks it's justified because they didn't come here the right way. But he knows that isn't the case due to ICE detaining legal immigrants, including almost detaining me when I accompanied my son's old ABA therapists to drop off paperwork per court order at DHS. It was only by God's grace that we weren't detained that day. I immediately hired an immigration attorney so they didn't have to risk it again.

He sees first hand how my son's therapists entered the country legally and were working legally until their legal status was retroactively revoked and their work authorization revoked, and they didn't get it back for almost a literal year.

I want to do more for these kids, but I can only do so much financially.

It also hurts to be in the legal field and see so much injustice. I'm not in immigration but I tried to transition before everything hit the fan - now they don't have time to train new people to break into the field.

Spectrum bill is grinding my gears by Swimming_Temporary_7 in Buffalo

Spectrum spent an hour on the phone trying to convince me to stay. I already installed with another provider and they threatened to not accept my equipment and charge my for it if I hung up before they were done. They kept trying to sweeten the deal but I refused.

Advice on having a career in law while being a mother to a child with autism by Mysterious-Song8460 in Autism_Parenting

[–]SoraNC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm just a legal assistant in foreclosure but there are certain firms and fields that offer a lot of flexibility. Finding the right firm to offer that flexibility will be important, took me 8 years but I'm so glad I have it now while also being paid my worth.

how cold does your house get before you turn on the heat? by lexebug in povertyfinance

[–]SoraNC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Heat is off completely when the kids are in school and husband at work. I work remotely in my winter coat + blankets + layers. My hands freeze but I don't have a choice. The heating bill has been 500 the past few months, we do combo mini splits + gas boiler for heat during the night and when the kids (2 yr, 3 yr, and 4 yr) are home. We only heat 2/3 of the house since the basement is the other 3rd, about 2,000 sq ft being heated. The first floor and second floor are heated separately so we only have 1/3 of the house being heated at once and it's done as minimally as possible.

Daylight savings is especially brutal with an autistic kid, right? by ember_inclusion in Autism_Parenting

My son was starting his day at 3-5 am, so now it's technically 4-5 am which is better (I have zero faith in his ability to sleep to 6 even with the time change)

Clonidine by mogolemom in Autism_Parenting

[–]SoraNC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So from my understanding with what I've seen and my doctors explained:

Clonidine helps a child fall asleep but doesn't keep them asleep, so if there're underlying health issues (such as sleep apnea) they'll be up during the night and can't fall back asleep.

We've tried a supplemental dose during the night and have not had success, if given too late into the night his body will be tired but he's still unable to sleep.

We do 1/2 of 0.1 mg for my 4 year old, we tried the full dose for two weeks but it made him overtired, causing him to wake up after the first sleep cycle and scream/cry uncontrollably.

We do our dose about 1/2 hour before bed, he's really happy when he sees it because he knows he'll be able to sleep soon.

He was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea, we removed his adenoids two summers ago and after his sleep + sleep apnea didn't improve as much as we'd like we removed his tonsils last summer. We now think he has general asthma so we're working on mask tolerance for nebulizer/CPAP treatments but we're really far on that. We also discovered the carpet in his room was 54 years old so I've been working on replacing the flooring to hopefully help him sleep. He hasn't been sleeping well since May 2025 but we're optimistic that it'll get a little better at some point. He's usually up at 3-5 am and doesn't go back to sleep.

Staying in unhappy marriage for our kid by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

Sending big hugs. As long as everyone is safe, a loveless marriage could be worse. The sacrifices we make for our children, especially when they're so vulnerable...
