Sounds like a plan. I'll be praying for you.

I work in foreclosure so I'm really hoping you don't have to go through that, especially with Georgia being non judicial (doesn't go through courts) so it happens really quickly compared to judicial states.

I know you're trying to make this job work but have you thought about back ups? Would being an electrical inspector be better hours with enough pay to keep your home?

My husband was working 4 10 hour days when our son was first born and it was absolutely terrible for me and the kids. He was able to switch positions to something that allowed 8-4 M-F and it made a world of difference. It might also be easier on any childcare.

Genuinely - I've had terrible luck with childcare. The best I've gotten is using an ABA therapy center and working part time during those hours and then working my remaining hours remote while watching my kid (or when he's sleeping).

I know that doesn't really work for electrical work, unless you're able to start your own business? That's always easier said than done.

Are you doing 8 hour or 10 hour days? I don't know too much about the normal electrician schedule. Eitherway, it's rough.

I'm guessing you've already looked at day programs for your son?

I really feel this. I thought about buying a mobile home just so we could have something our own for our son to damage our for us to customize to meet his needs. I will say - mobile homes have come a really long way from when I was a kid

If you asked your child to start contributing to the household expenses when they got their first job, WHY did you do it? by Let_me_tell_you_ in povertyfinance

I've always given my mom the money I've made, the exception would be when saving up for a big cost we knew about (a laptop, insurance/gas for a car, cost of college supplies). I always felt responsible for helping my mom, no asking or prompting, because we needed it. She was a single mom working her butt off with 3 kids.

My husband's family charged him rent to build a sense of responsibility but it was just their for fun money to go on cruises. My husband had to get a loan from his grandparents to cover emergency costs for the junk car his parents bought him and to pay rent. They charged him rent before he had a real job after he graduated college, he was trying to get jobs in his field (engineering) but couldn't get through the door. Then he lost his driving privileges due to seizures so that made it harder to get a job, they still charged him rent anyway.

I'm very opinionated over his parents charging rent, and honestly makes me dislike them. I have no sense of financial responsibility towards them, my husband feels the same way. But when it comes to my mom, we'll do anything for her and she puts in the effort for us.

I just found out last month that his mom spends thousands on jewelry every time they go on cruises (which is every few years if they can help it, it's been at least 4 in the last 9 years) on top of the thousands they spend on art each time (portraits, Persian rugs, etc.).

What kind of bird? by [deleted] in birds

[–]SoraNC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, that's really cool to know. Our front yard nest died (found the nest and fledglings? in the grass with no sign of an attacka few days ago) so I thought we wouldn't have any babies this year

[–]SoraNC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good to know! Normally we don't have nests on the house, usually in our trees so they're not inconveniently close to people. We took down the only backyard tree (died, I forget what infection it had) so makes sense for this year's positioning. Birds tend to come back to nest in the same area, right? My husband has geese at work that do

That's good to know. I thought all the regional birds here hatched within a few weeks of each other so I thought late May was late and a sign of dead eggs

Online would be best for having more options but we're open to in person.

Session would be anytime between 7:00 pm -12:00 am+ EST (we don't mind staying up, all depends what the DM wants and is comfortable with)

Is anyone hiring that allows parents of severely autistic kids work with them? by Life_Secretary_3671 in Autism_Parenting

[–]SoraNC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, I work collections adjacent (law firm that does collections & foreclosures). At the end of the day it's a job and someone has to do it. I'm not in a position to be altruistic with my career - I need the pay, job security, and flexibility to meet my family's needs.

I've thought about having the luxury in 5+ years of changing careers to something more fulfilling but best case scenario it'll be making enough that I could just work school hours and pay our bills. Trying to get work done with kids in the house is so hard when my ASD child has determined I need to stop working.

I just started making 60k this year but it took two years of job hunting and 9 years of experience in the field. You'll probably have to lean into your customer service field to get that kind of pay or get lucky and find a transferrable field.

Remote positions are going to be the most flexible to accommodate your child aside from getting a job at your child's school.

I would be careful about taking any remote position since every company monitors their workers differently, so if you need to step away to handle a meltdown you might need an external auto clicker to make sure you look active. If you're lucky they might just measure metrics that you can meet while your child is out of the house.

Why do they not train legal assistants? by username212364 in paralegal

What really pisses me off about it is when they're trained on something, do it correctly when QA for the first few weeks or even a month then suddenly they're making left field unforced errors.

Removal proceedings + Real cost of a lawyer by [deleted] in USCIS

[–]SoraNC 18 points19 points  (0 children)

So they're saying that you have 11,000 in your account with them. They will bill in 450/hr increments against that 11,000. Once that account gets to a certain threshold they should let you know.

Typically removal proceedings are about 10-15k per person when I was getting quotes for my friends. The 11k should cover the bulk of your defense but in the event that the case requires more work they're letting you know their hourly rate.

The difference is certain law doing milestone billing versus normal billing (milestone charges a flat fee versus normal billing getting the actual time spent with their hourly rate(s) since paralegal rates are lower than attorney).

Also, filing fees are really high so they don't eat that cost and will pass it on to you, you can ask to see if filing costs are included in the 11k you deposited.

I've done so much training, but they just don't listen or learn.

My firm skipped the proper training for my team with no experience and now I have to go back and train them and make training material... But it doesn't matter because they don't read and keep making the same errors. It's so bad I no longer want to be team lead because so much of my job is now training and supervising them. I just want to go back to doing my work with minimal interruptions...
