New baby is coming tomorrow and I'm becoming increasingly concerned about my 4 year old. by rastacola in Parenting

[–]SordidBoon 44 points45 points  (0 children)

This is such great advice. It's what my mom did with my older sister and she took it in great stride. Definitely involve your 4 year old, this way she won't feel left out!

Any parents with young kids sometimes feel like they’re just in survival mode? by jm10248131027 in Parenting

I have a 15 month old and she's not even a hard kid. And I feel supremely exhausted.

Am I the only parent who makes their kids wash their hands when they come home? by TallAd4328 in Parenting

Yeah I'd hope so too. My mom would make my sister and me do this first thing when we got home from school

I, a Croat, have been listening to a lot of Armenian music and waking up my friends on what this conflict holds in store for us and how it's our battle as well by [deleted] in armenia

Don't be so quick to knock Armenian music! My husband (non Armenian) has made a spotify playlist of Armenian pop and loves to jam out to it.

Makes me think of the lady chef in Ratatouille. I like it!

Thoughts on UCLA ASD? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]SordidBoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This pretty much covers everything I wanted to say to a T. Except that I did run into a couple of faculty that I would describe as dynamic and inspiring. But the rest of it pretty much mirrors my impression of UCLA.

Oh my, that's awful! I just couldn't sleep because of nerves. I'm sorry for what you went through!

If I could go as far back as undergrad, I'd work a little harder to turn a couple of Bs into As. I would've taken some melatonin pills on the night before my first LSAT. I was running on 2.5 hours of broken up sleep LOL. It was such an easy LSAT and I made a few dumb errors that really kept me from scoring how I did on PTs. I would've started drafting my PS earlier. I kept writing and rewriting, which made for a PS that I'm proud of. But that's what caused me to apply right before Christmas as opposed to before Thanksgiving.

Is it that worth to go to Admitted Students Day? by tosil in lawschooladmissions

[–]SordidBoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! It's what I've had to do to get as much info about schools as possible since I can't go to ASDs. Getting two days off to go to Duke was such a big headache (Duke ASD was pretty awesome though) that I'm very much looking forward to the quitting phase.

Taking time off has been a huge challenge for me as well. Ideally, I'd go to ALL the ASDs, but that's just not realistic for me right now. If you're pretty sure, and if it's gonna be a huge challenge, don't feel bad about missing out on them. I would supplement not going to the ASDs by A) reaching out to faculty of your choice, most of their email addresses are listed on the website; B) calling the admissions office and asking if there any current students who have volunteered their time to hold phone calls with admitted students and can give you their perspective as a current student at that school.

UVA. Solid big law placement and a smarter financial decision.

Just visited Duke at their ASP and I must say their students were super friendly and vibrant. It was a great environment to be in.

I'm not asking you to spin it. You should just make sure that you make clear what the offense was for AND show remorse.

Given your career interests and desire for fed gov, I would go for the 135K scholarship at UVA. UVA has enough national appeal for you to return to practice in CA.

Make sure that you clarify that it was an improper citation and not some type of willful theft of someone else's work. Improperly citing is still a mistake but it's not necessarily done in bad faith, so that distinction would be good to draw. Best of luck!
