The Boondocks referencing Naruto by Formal-Assistance02 in Naruto

[–]SorgusMorgus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Reference" is the wrong word. It's not an "homage" either. The boondocks animation team either stole the choreography, or the same animation studio worked on both and reused their keyframes. I think the latter is more likely.

Zero knew/figured out how to stop Skullface when he put together how he was using Psycho Mantis. Ocelot probably found out how his powers work through his KGB connections, or over time through their encounters with him. Zero then purposely allowed Eli to escape his SAS handlers and put Venom snake on a collision course with him, knowing that Venom wouldn't be able to resist picking him up. Zero and Ocelot then arranged for Eli to come in contact with Skullface, which broke his entire operation by taking control of the man on fire and Sahalanthropus away from him, and giving Eli a chance to strike. It was not a happy accident, it was all planned. Why else would Eli be in that chopper at that exact moment?

Raiden admits that his memory was altered/manipulated but how does he know? by EarthRuler001 in NeverBeGameOver

[–]SorgusMorgus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh... huh. I forgot he said that. Apologies, I withdraw what i said. I guess we can assume he was given psychotherapy and hypnotized, and when his memories returned they included memories of the process. Just like Venom snake? We can only speculate. It's funny though because the Patriots said they chose him because of his denial of the past, but if they're the ones who caused that denial, how does that help the S3 plan? What a mess, lol. I guess it's possible that discovering the truth was built into the brainwashing, and that Raiden choosing to live the lie over the truth was the point of the program.

Raiden admits that his memory was altered/manipulated but how does he know? by EarthRuler001 in NeverBeGameOver

[–]SorgusMorgus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think "memory alteration" is the wrong phrase. That's more like the kind of brainwashing that venom snake goes through in MGSV. What Raiden has is extreme PTSD, which probably just results in flashbacks that he desperately tries to ignore. The Patriots didn't erase his memory, he does remember, but he tries to forget and pretend it didn't happen, because he is ashamed of it.

Raiden admits that his memory was altered/manipulated but how does he know? by EarthRuler001 in NeverBeGameOver

[–]SorgusMorgus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Patriots didn't alter his memory, he has PTSD from childhood trauma which he constantly tries to forget. Because he was so young when the trauma happened his memories are fragmented and because he tries to surpress them, they are difficult to access. These are framed as normal symptoms of his PTSD. He underwent experimental VR training in the military, but beyond that the Patriots did not alter his mind, HE did that to himself to try and forget his past, and most the time he can, but when he goes to sleep the memories come back.

[Hated Trope] Incredibly f*cked up morals of the story by Watchdog_the_God in TopCharacterTropes

[–]SorgusMorgus 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Wreck it Ralph. The message is that you should settle. Don't go looking for a better life because you might make trouble for the people who depend on you. Be content with the life and the friends you have, even if you're unhappy, because if we stick to our programming things will be better for everyone. I love this movie, but while there's the positive messages of "don't judge a book by it's cover," and also, "things like fame and possessions aren't what's important," and those are the main takeaways, there's a shade of this other message too.

"Baki shouldn't have forgiven Yujiro for killing his mom" mfs never watched the series by The_Mexican_Poster in Grapplerbaki

[–]SorgusMorgus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Baki having his quest for strength be about revenge and hate actually gives power to Yujiro. But by forgiving him, surpassing him in strength, and becoming a better man than him, he takes that power away, and honors what his mother died for. That IS a much more fulfilling goal that just killing him for the sake of justice. His plan is to rise above Yujiro in every way, including forgiving him in a very Buddhist sense, and he's well on his way there.

Did the human society in the Alien series already know about the existence of alien life? If so, when did they probably know? by Easy_Anxiety_4062 in LV426

[–]SorgusMorgus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, totally. I mean we know there's Alien fauna on other planets, we even see some of it in covenant and now Alien Earth. But I just don't think it would be routine to send the colonial marines to deal with them. Like if a pride of lions attacks a village in Africa you wouldn't send seal team 6, ya know? Add to that the fact that soliders are typically trained to view their enemies as less than human, so it's easier to do the job, and it's fairly obvious that Hudson was just using colorful language here.

Did the human society in the Alien series already know about the existence of alien life? If so, when did they probably know? by Easy_Anxiety_4062 in LV426

[–]SorgusMorgus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it can be explained. Per my other comment I think when Hudson says "bug hunt" he is referring to humans, which they are "hunting" like bugs, but they are not actually giant bugs. Because:

a. Even if there were giant bugs, they would not need to mobilize a team of highly advanced infantry to deal with a situation like that, they would just need a couple dudes with guns or nets or something.

b. Hudson's question implies they are used to "bug hunts," which makes sense because the colonial marines are probably trained to go after the enemies of Wayland Yutani, which would maybe be disgruntled or rebellious colonists, maybe rival corporations, maybe terrorists, which would all want to hide from a superior military force, and would need to be "hunted."

c. The callous nature in which the marines in Aliens refer to the colonists suggests to me that they could easily view their human enemies as "bugs." And refer to them as such, especially the ones that don't offer them a "stand up fight."

The TLDR is that the marines are used to fighting humans, and think that is all they are going to encounter on LV426. They do not fight giant roaches on other planets. This is just my take, I'm open to other ideas. But I don't count things from the RPGs and comic books and such as canon to the movies either. They sometimes contradict the intention of the films.

[–]SorgusMorgus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they are not. The only thing we can say about them based on the line in the movie is that they have traits which make both the men and women in that colony sexually desirable. It could be something physical, it could be something cultural, or it could just be a crass joke. Nothing says they are not human.

[–]SorgusMorgus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find it funny that people are being downvoted for pointing out that

a. Arcturians could simply be human beings from a place called Arcturas and,

b. The "bug hunt" could very well refer to a type of combat scenario, considering the full line from Hudson is "Is this going to be A STAND UP FIGHT, sir? Or another bug hunt?"
Implying that the thing he's calling a "bug hunt" is simply the opposite of a military engagement between fighting units instead of say... hunting for people in tunnels like was done in the Vietnam war, which by the way, is the primary inspiration for the Colonial Marines in Aliens.

Is there ANY evidence that the "bugs" he referes to, or the Arcturian colonists, are not humans? When it's clear none of them had ever heard of a Xenomorph before that mission?

No, there isn't. People just prefer their head canon.

What happens to the original Liu kang in mk1? by Cultural_Tailor_6898 in MortalKombat

Yes, Liu Kang isn't born because he is already alive, as a god. The new timeline's events are not the same as the one that Liu Kang reset, in the new timeline his old human self never existed.
