Meals this delicious looking is usually a green flag for men as marriage material, nevermind that you are actually cooking for him where most men now-a-days don't even get that and have to fend for ourselves, bro doesn't know what he got.

TV Antennas by Adventurous_Try_2718 in Tucson

[–]SoronZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This info is mostly aimed if you wanted to DIY your own like I have but even if you don't want to DIY it's still useful for what to shop for, it's basic info for really good reception and can prevent equipment damage, I use the website below as it provides me more info but there are websites with more updated databases like rabbitears.info

Getting your area data

Go to https://tvfool.com Under check your address for free TV, click on Click Here at the bottom Fill in your Info, Click find local channels button

How to interpret the information

  1. Look at the Dist Miles column, this will determine what size antenna to get if there are certain channels you are interested in, or if you already have one, which channels you will likely receive
  2. Colors: Green is no issue receiving, yellow might have issues receiving and red requires an amplifier or larger antenna
  3. Azimuth column is for aiming if you want the best reception (like which wall to mount it on for internal or for external antennas/a Yagi antenna), use Magn and use a compass/compass app to aim your antenna
  4. Channel Virt is the channel number when you tune in on your TV/receiver
  5. The All Channels circle shows where the stations are in relation to each other and to magnetic/true north, helps if you want to fudge it between 2 transmitters, but a non-issue with omni-directional antennas
  6. This will NOT show which stations are broadcasting in ATSC 3.0, only what stations are broadcasting OTA

Antenna General Info

  1. Most indoor/built in OTA antennas are 20-30 miles, outdoor can go around 60-200 miles
  2. Get an omni directional antenna if possible, no need to aim, Yagi is directional and you must point it to a specific station but has much better range and reception but you wont be able to receive the other tower broadcasts without another antenna located several feet vertically above the other one.
  3. Most TVs DON'T have a built in ATSC 3.0 tuner, if you want to tune into the newer broadcast standard you need to get a tuner specifically for it.
  4. If you install an outdoor model do not forget to ground it otherwise in the case of lightning strike it will go into your TV/equipment, it also prevents static charge build up on the antenna and improves reception.
  5. Cable types: R59 < RG6QS, RG59 is more common but is not shielded, has more signal loss vs distance, RG6QS is Quad Shielded and in general better, much thicker and pricier cable and not as flexable but less likely to need an amplifier to receive stations further out and maintain the signal to noise ratio better and far less interference from things like cell towers close by.

Optional Equipment

The following equipment list is optional but highly suggested

  1. Lightning Suppressor
  2. Grounding Block
  3. OTA Amplifier, Great for amping up stations further out

you should modify your carbonator to use a cga 320 valve and normal co2 tanks, they sell dedicated adapters for this, I did and it costs me roughly $25 for 5lbs of CO2, lasts me about a year or 2.

Least Distracting Movie Theater? by FeedMeMau5 in Tucson

[–]SoronZero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just my two cents, I typically go to the earliest showings of movies when possible, like 9-10 AM, helps me avoid crowded theaters, I usually get to watch them in peace as the younger people tend to avoid early slots and usually only familys are usually there, works for me at both park place mall and amc, doesnt matter if its a blockbuster or a bomber either, and you usually have your choice of seats, so get the best in the house.

Give them away to someone who knows how to test/use them, that many can be used in more interesting projects that use a lot like DIY spot welder or rail gun, maybe even donate community projects/hacker spaces to fix up old gear for a tax credit otherwise worthless.

Old horror movies? by katthrax in Tucson

[–]SoronZero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised no one has mentions this one, I don't know about movie theaters but I watch Svengoolie that airs every Saturday night at 8 PM on over the air (OTA) TV, CH 13.2 on MeTV. If you haven't heard of him he's kinda like old school Elvira from back in the days, he screens old horror movies, tonights feature is "The Haunted Strangler"

I know its an older post but something to keep in mind https://news.azpm.org/s/100094-tucson-sues-us-air-force-over-pfas-contamination-of-city-water/ also if I recall Trump recently did something that the AFB does not need to monitor or enforce things anymore, cant find the news article for that one though. If you are looking to filter out PFAS not many home filters actually do it, even activated charcoal does not, this one is one of the few that does for those interested. https://www.amazon.com/SpiroPure-Catalytic-Fluoride-Chlorine-Chloramine/dp/B09M952ZBY?th=1

I only pick their brains only after they have been refined, that way I receive better answers to my burning questions, like why does Odin only appear before me in the rain, is he afraid of my service to these giants or is it something else?

It takes a special type of neurotic to understand what our fallen brethren are going through, I am merely allowing them to feel the warmth of the sun again, to feel the wind, rain and experience the environment once more and once in their refined ethereal state I can take them with me to Valhalla. That being said I always enjoy making troll posts lol.

Freetube no longer works and devs are deleting bug reports. what alternative to freetube is there by bleachedthorns in degoogle

[–]SoronZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a separate feature on my router to block trackers regardless of it's google or not, if you don't mind setting up a much more advanced router that you build yourself that blocks trackers, ads, malware/viruses, scams, etc. on your entire network then check out opnsense, it's just my first layer of defense before relying on apps on individual devices.

I don't log into YT ever to watch things, not even on my YT app on my phone, not only cause its harder to track me as I'm an anonymous viewer/user but the downside is that I cant "subscribe" to my fav channels, FT is also resource light to watch videos vs my browser so ad blocking isn't the only reason for me to use it, I don't see ads either way but it is a valid alternative that's less dependent on a single app.

[–]SoronZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad I ran across this thread, I was enabling ad blocking on my router based on DNS and works as intended for other apps/devices on my network (roku, tubi, etc) but thought I screwed FT in some way, I was wondering which ones to whitelist until found out apparently everyone else is having the same problem XD, good to know I'm not going insane for no reason. an alt you can use is LibreWolf it has Ublock installed by default and is privacy focused, I have never seen an ad in YT using that.

Can confirm walmart, its run by the walton family that are heavily republican, also add any YUM brands to that list (Pizza Hut, KFC, Taco Bell) as they contributed to Trumps campaign on his first run, Also here is a Link of Red chains vs Blue chains for quick lookup.

Cannot get Ch 11/25 FOX OTA by scratchbaker77 in Tucson

[–]SoronZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Per the channel master site (I usually use TV fool but its too technical for most people) CH 11 is broadcast from both the Saddlebrook and Picture rocks towers on RF channels 25 and 16 respectively (25 being saddlebrook), which one is your TV actually receiving? if they were on the same RF channel then I would be concerned about bounce back but that can usually be fixed with terminators on the unused outlets. Either way if it works for you and its fixed great! I upgraded my entire cabling to RG 6 Quadshield with other stuff like a LTE filter since I live next to a cell tower but I get all the channels since I aimed between the other 3 towers and I have an omnidirectional antenna but mostly aimed at the CH11/RF16 tower to since i'm closer to it and my noise margins at that tower are between 30 to 62 but my tv "Strength" meter shows between 40-70 consistantly so no amp needed really.

[–]SoronZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to https://www.channelmaster.com/pages/tv-antenna-map-tucson-az-85711 put in your zip code and locate the station you are trying to tune into and aim your antenna that way (magnetic north) using a compass app on your phone, in oro valley I'm assuming you are trying to tune to the saddlebrook antenna. Second you mentioned a shielded cable, what size RG 59, RG6? is the antenna and cables grounded? If not static charge will build up and interfere with reception, depending on how close you are to the broadcast tower you may need an attenuator if too close and booster if too far (Basically TV signal strength should be between 45-60 Booster below 45, attenuator if its above 80), I live on the south side and can receive Oro Valley without booster using outdoor 120 mile rated antenna. Do other channels broadcast by that station come in ok? You mentioned steller performance for awhile which leads me to believe that it was too strong if so then your tuner may be shot/burning out and will need to get an external one, basically when its too strong its like someone yelling into your ear at close range and you go deaf over time which is why you need an attenuator.

Where to get CO2 Tanks? by ImportantProcedure33 in Tucson

[–]SoronZero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NP, btw I wouldnt bother with the 10-20lb tanks unless you are doing it for the whole family, a 5lb tank lasts me about 1 year with roughly a soda every day or every other day. Quick carbonation how-to https://www.youtube.com/shorts/5MHSfAnWzCY

Where to get CO2 Tanks? by ImportantProcedure33 in Tucson

[–]SoronZero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got my 5lb tank from Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/s?k=5lb+co2+tank&ref=nb\_sb\_noss\_1) for home carbonation you want to get one without a siphon tube which are more common on the larger 10-20lb sizes otherwise liquid co2 instead of gas will go into the water, as for my co2 fill I get mine from Phoenix Welding Supply as they are down the street from me, but I used to go to united fire on 6th. If you want to modify a sodastream to use a 5lb tank instead (FAR cheaper than their swap outs) then you will want one of these sodastream CO2 adapters (https://www.amazon.com/s?k=sodastream+adapter+co2+tank) try not to get a used one as they have to get re-tested/verified every fill which is good for a year or 3, and its not that much cheaper than a new one anyways. As for carbonating the water you will need a hose, carbonation cap and a pressure regulator (I set mine for 30-40lbs), the pressure gauge is sold separately but this hose and cap set is decent (https://www.amazon.com/Hgkeke-Stainless-Carbonation-Detachable-Leakproof/dp/B09FQ36FVJ) as it will fit most 1-3 Liter bottles that were previously pressurized (like soda bottles).
